    Cool video. How much hang do you guys usually have in your intermediate? We just rehung ours on our box trawl and it was at 0%. The net would just shut down after about 30 tons in the bag.

    @spinaway Fish populations often run in cycles as well. Ive seen what you speak of in terms of population decreases. They often last for 5 years and alas the fish populations of species return. As far as baron seas, we have rivers here that are similar, yet its from pollution though it may not be the case in your area.

    There will be no fishermen left in business long before there are no fish left in the sea. Politicians scientists and environmentalists will make sure of that.

    As long as it's not hard on bottom, loaded with excluders for salmon, I'm down with this. If anybody knows their asses from a hole in the ground, it's the Norwegians. Now, here's a question: in the beginning, there was a vessel with "seattle, wa" on the stern, and it looked like a Marco house forward built vessel. Anybody got the story???

    Sounds like your very informed on fishing... tell me. How long have you worked in the industry? Because I've been doing this all my life (and this has been going on for 100-150 years) and we have had the biggest hake return in 30 years this year... explain that.

    No damn wonder the regular pole fisherman on the pier can't get a damn bite. These trawlers with the tracking equipment and scooping the fish up before they make it to shore. I wish this shit was illegal. I hope out in the deep water the waves get so bad that this is impossible.

    I'll tell you why, more technology, real time video of the cod end, GPS location with sonar of fish schools in 3D , jesus don't tell me that its increasing stocks , its' rapidly catching what 's left of most fisheries .All around the world fisheries are in steep decline and all the rose coloured glasses are not going to save them. YES I am a fisherman and also I have studied fishing and have a degree in science

  • @ekulda

    Not good to overfish. Traditional fishing is what has saved the sae since. But after trawling the sea is dying :/ Only for one species - Human :/

  • @strikenetter
    @strikenetter13 жыл бұрын

    Speaking of liars, we have problems in that department here in the USA as well yet it isn't the fisherman, but special interest groups. We need correct fisheries management, yet all we have here is a starve out of the fishermen! Data on fish stocks in many places is corrupt while having no biologists examining the populations at sea but rather at the dock. Striped bass have greatly reduced in population. Overfishing? NO. Little to no commercial season but a huge recreation season.

    looks like all whiting to me does it all go for human consumption or fish food to feed the salmon farms. Why not make the mesh size a lot bigger so to let the small stuff out

    Disgusting example of overfishing and greed! These things rip up the underwater ecosystem and catch much more than the intended fish! So NOT environmentally friendly!

    how do the catches you have now compare to before you had fancy electronics,sat nav ,state of the art echo sounders,etc that can pinpoint indervidual fish?...why do you have to go fish deepwater marks for slow growing species that cant withstand comercial pressure?...because you are only interested in your next pay day.you tell me about any fishery that isnt in decline and l will tell you about a lying trawler owner.

    if you all really cared for the ocean then yall should stop eating fish, we are only supplying the demand. in our sea we have regulation and penalties. one being if we catch a certain amount of by catch we get shut down the whole year. i heard of pollock boats getting shut down the 1st day of the season. putting 100s of people out of work. some of you people are so clueless how fishing industry works. if it was about greed, then i would be making 100k plus as a processor. but go ahead and eat that cod, Pollock etc. im not watching.
