Hi Dave, your fly tying is masterful but you will catch a lot more fish on dry flies if you cast a shorter and slacker line, your style is more typical of a wet fly fisher. This pool may not be accessible from the wooded bank but if it is, that is the bank to fish, with a slacker more up stream cast. You may catch smaller fish in the way you are fishing but better canny fish will not take, there being a subtle but ever preset drag. I have fished dry exclusively now for 15 years and it’s been a real education to fish dry all the time for wild fish. It’s almost like learning to fish all over again, since I used to be a wet fly man. I love the films I hope these comments are well received. They are intended to be helpful.

Every one of those short hook ups is a catch in my book. You're using a small fly and trout have big mouths, so its hard to get a solid hook set on a fish with a size 20 or lower. Maybe give the fish a beat or two before you set the hook. Thats what I do. And thats the slackest water to fish anyway. Maybe the fish aren't so fast to take a fly like they would in riffles or faster water.

I like your fishing adventure videos. It would be interesting see what the early morning looks and sounds like on the River Ayr. The larger grain fields must have plenty of Pheasants, Partridge, rabbits and fox roaming around. The fishing regulations are something that would be interesting to know about too. Do Sea trout or Sea Run Brown trout run up the Ayr River? I would wonder about Eels and other fish that you sometimes find in rivers of Scotland. 🦉🪶🦊
