Fishing 'The Channel' | 10 hrs no fish, then my LUCK CHANGED!!

Ahoy Legends, This week I head out spinning the beacons and go 10hrs with no fish, then it turned on! What a change in fortune!!
The plan was to chase school mackerel, tuna and hopefully a feed of sand crabs in Moreton bay. After a very slow start, luckily my luck changed!!
Hope you enjoy the episode!

    Hey Sammy, we lost a brother this week in a sad boating accident, we all watch your show and look up to you so I'm asking if you could include a couple of minutes of boat safety every week. I too am a solo angler and have recently upgraded my safety plan with a bum bag to put my EPIRB into, it's just too sad any of us perishing at sea with a perfectly good rescue device left on the boat. Rip and love to the heart broken family. Cheers bro😢

    Hey Sam. We used to have some success on spotties and schoolies in the bay {4 beacons and top of the Rainbow channel}, by fishing baits deep when they went off the lures , we've caught them on the bottom quite a few times by dropping weighted pillies down deeper, running a sinker down to a 4 gang pilly . Also, don't be afraid to use smaller lures and slugs, you'd be surprised just how small some of the bait fish they feed on are, this includes the Long tails... We once had long tails all around us out the front of Peel and the whitebait, about 2 inches long, were jumping into our boat, we switched to a similar sized slugs and caught a few , {and lost a few !} straight away... I miss my days of fishing the bay . you'd cry if you saw the size of the fish we used to catch at Peel in the late 60's, 70's...

    Well there you go! Might have to take some pillies out next time as well! I did try a few different sized slugs that day. I think they were just shut down or not feeding yet! The longtails were definitely keen though 👌👌

    Have you tried switching to a small soft plastic for longies? I usually have way more luck with those than the metals. I use a size 5 1oz jig head to get a long cast with a 4 inch paddle tail. Just enough movement at the back to interest them and no worry about straightening the hook.

    Good morning Legend, I should think you’re receiving hundreds of messages from your faithful subscribers but I would like to think you’re recognising/remembering me , as I have sent you a few notes over the years , Chris from Crete. Please don’t take the following personal , and I have sent the very same message to other legends of the fishing world, incidentally all Aussies. Around 7 minutes 30seconds of the video , we can see you trimming the line with a nail clipper. What we didn’t see….. is when you place the offcut in a bin , strategically place on board…. Sorry but we’ve heard so much about plastic in the oceans , finding plastic inside fishes stomach , etc…. Your fervent subscriber , Chris from Crete.

    I’ve always wanted to ask this. Why don’t you gut the fish before you put them into the cooler? Here in the USA I was always taught that you bleed them and then gut them and get them into the cooler ASAP.

    Hey mate! We do gutter larger fish like tuna before putting them into the ice. I personally don’t like having open cuts in my fish and then exposing them to water. Can get into the flesh and make them mushy. Everyone has there own theories though 👍👍

    @@SammyHitzkeFishing That actually makes perfect sense to me. Also explains why some of my fish seem mushy. I’m going to try it your way. Willing to bet it’s going to be better!!! Thanks for the advice.

    The reason for no fish for 10 hours was probably because they weren’t feeding yet,,, you need to learn how to use your local feeding and tide chart,,,

  • @SammyHitzkeFishing

    @SammyHitzkeFishing

    5 ай бұрын

    Possibly, but if you really knew about bite times and tide charts you’d realize that both bite times and tide changes are 6 hours apart. So fishing for 10 hours without a fish would mean I at least fished through 1 of each at a minimum. 😉 Sometimes you just have to grind it out 👍
