Fishing potholes Reservoir on a scorching hot day

Спорт

This is my one day on Potholes reservoir in Central Washington. Unfortunately the water was down about 20 feet so the potholes were more like puddles.

I thought you had a carp. Never seen a cat like that out of the Potholes but then I never fished for them. You were workin hard to bring that beast in. The lake has a lot of walleyes, trout, and several other species. Slow troll a spinner and worm near the bottom for some nice walleyes.

I can only remember fighting a fish that long one other time. I caught a 17 pound tiger muskie, which I was told is a cross between a pike and a muskie. It's the only one I ever caught in lake Pend Oreille.

My family and I camped in the potholes in 1980 right after Mt. St. Helen’s erupted. I remember there was ash everywhere. What a beautiful place that was. I remember that being a freakin hot summer though and that part of Washington boils when it’s hot.

Well I was there when it was boiling. I My memory isn't the best but I'm pretty sure it was about 105 that day and again when I fished Moses lake the next day.

I probably should have lifted him out of the water by the gills just to show how big he was but I was out of gas and just wanted to get him off the hook. I know he was way too big for the net and he just looked like he was 15-20 pounds to me but then I'm not the best at judging a fishes weight.

I have lived in moses lake for 26 years, 22 of them half a block from the lake. Having fished all my life, lived for 19 years in Long Beach and San Pedro ca in which I used to fish for barracuda, shark, red snapper mostly near Catalina island and Channel Islands, moved to paradise (Moses lake) I have fished in hundreds of lakes in the Columbia basin but since potholes area is about 20 from where I live, is my favorite camping and fishing spot. There’s many other lakes and ponds besides potholes reservoir which, by the way, the official name is “O’Sullivan dam” and I have fished every single lake and pond in that area. Soda lake, long lake, upper and lower goose lakes, mallard lake (pond) Hampton lake etc etc There’s plenty of fish for every taste. And lots of it! Catfish, bass, walleye, perch, white fish, crappie. In the area they I live in moses lake there’s the spillways, two of them where crab creek comes out of Moses and connects our lake with potholes reservoir so, you can be fishing our lake (the lake in moses lake) and in 10 minutes you’ll be fishing in potholes reservoir. In the “tail” of potholes reservoir there’s some EXCELLENT and very productive areas (and beautiful too!) to fish for bass catfish and crappie. So, lastly and as a suggestion, DON’T reel in the fish like that. Your are lucky that, that 20 pound channel cat didn’t brake your fishing pool. Also, when you go to potholes, NEVER take a net that small with you. 3 years ago I caught a 26 pound channel cat that took me 40 minutes to bring it to shore and I have seen people that catches cats bigger than that. Nice video and, GOOD FISHING.

I would have never gotten a 26 pound fish in. That net is plenty big for what I usually catch, but as soon as I saw that fish I knew that net was worthless. I didn't bother weighing it because my scale only goes up to 15 pounds and I think it was bigger than that, although I'm not very good at guessing fish weights. I bought a new scale for 2024 because I got tired of all the trouble I had with the one I got. But the new one only goes up to 15 pounds too.

Could tell right away that was a catfish. I got a 4.5 lb bass at silver lake cowiltz this weekend. Biggest bass i’ve ever seen in person.

I'm not sure where that is but if it's in Idaho that's a good fish. Unless youre a pro, any bass over 4 pounds in Idaho is a really nice fish. I hope you put it back so you or someone else can catch it next spring when it's close to 5 pounds.

Those “potholes” are low spots between sand dunes. They flood and drain at different times of the year. There is lots of life, aka bait, in the system. P.S.Ive never been attacked by the birds.

You ever hear of that video game called angry birds? This was just one angry bird and he was not going to let me fish near that island.

Also, if you don’t mind me saying, the place you’re fishing at, the odds of you catching a bass is 1 in 10. The odds of you catching a catfish is 9 in 10. Remember that bass like to stay were there’s structures like sunken threes, docks, floating objects, underwater rocks, drop offs, tules etc. bass don like open waters. If you move closer to shore were those structures are, then those numbers are gonna switch.

YOU are gunna break your rod by grabbing it like that, not the fish. You dont fish enough if you didnt know it was a catfish.

I really can't fish any more than I already do. I haven't caught a catfish since I was a kid.
