  • @fishingmad

    @fishingmad

    I only use swivels when bait fish, or when fishing offshore with lure clips for big fish. When using plastics I wont use a swivel as it adds weight and changes the swimming action of the plastic and if your not careful can ruin your guides. I will always use a FG knot or double uni

    Hi Alan, Any tips on how to sense the bite on flatty and when to 'strike' and how? Thanks

  • @fishingmad

    @fishingmad

    4 ай бұрын

    Flatties can be a sluggish fish, you don't want to rush the strike. You need to resist the urge to strike with those subtle nibbles and wait until you feel some weight. Flathead engage plastics really well so you wont drop to many. All comes down to practice but they are an awesome fish to target with plastics

    Hadn't considered the fishing permit. Not sure that should be part of the $65 budget, especially in the USA since different licenses are required for fresh and salt water. $55 is going to be tough to get anything that's will last more than a season in salt water but fresh water it's possible.

    When doing a "beginners" fishing video, could you please talk about then "when, where, and how" of fishing. For example, if fishing in a lake: - when is the best times of the day to fish (and why); - what should you look out for when deciding where on the lake to fish (shade, structures, current, wind, movement on the water, etc.); - what weather conditions are best for fishing (hot sunny days vs. cold & rainy days vs. mild overcast days vs. other conditions); - how should you change how you fish (different rigging, lures/baits, etc.) depending on conditions, time of day, characteristics of the lake; - anything else of similar relevance. This could also be done for fishing on rivers/creeks, fishing in bays/inlets/estuaries, fishing in salt water. Complete newbies (like myself & my daughter) have no idea about this stuff - but I know it can make a HUGE difference. Thank you for your excellent videos.

    Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate the comment and feedback. I have another beginners video on our channel which shows a lot more about technique you can see that here kzread.info/dash/bejne/hmau05mAqNDUl6Q.html in terms of times, tides, conditions its really challenging to piece that in a video as every location and system is different. When we do our usual videos covering a location we will generally talk about the best gear, times to fish, techniques etc specific to that location. Eg Lakes are non tidal, some species fish best on sunrise/sunset some during the middle of the day when the water temp is at its warmest. We also have a members area which has very detailed and lengthy workshops for beginners on the gear to use, how to use them, how to target specific species, fish certain locations so a lot more detail on the when, what and how stuff. That might be worth looking into. Thanks
