You are right about the locations being circular, I went to a location and plotted a hexagonal course around the scallop icon and went left to right a c omelette circle then right to left with another circle and got great results so many thanks 👍

Incredible info with real data! I do prefer the heat maps from the last game but they were a little too easy at times. Hopefully the next game with have a nice in between.

Actually if your section through the fish habitat is shorter than 2nm and the habitats are always 2nm circles then you just didnt go through the middle of the habitat but off to the side, if d is the distance traveled through then the habitat is sqrt(1- sqr(d * 0.5)) to the side from the center of your line, just that you dont know if left or right.

Hey mate, excellent explanation on distance and placement, I’ve only played 4 hours and really am enjoying the game. Would love to learn more, Can you explain what the numbers mean?

Well thats intresting, so all the locations i found redfish, lobster and pollock are actually scallop habitats, since the lobster has 2 habitats on a diffrent location?

I know this vid is a year old but... I started my game in January, on a lobster boat, and went through the tutorial for lobster, and lobster season is April to ? But I see and am still catching lobster in January without issue. Maybe they changed things, don't know, but it absolutely does not need to be the correct season to get rumours or see a habitat now.

Currently in the game the lobster season starts on November 1st and runs through to May 31st.

Okay, I’m just really confused so do you find out where habitats are by going to the town and going to bar because I have no clue at all😢

Is the the same for lobster? Because if so then their habitats are massive

The Habitats are all the same size. About 2 Nautical Miles wide and circular.

Why do you describe the group of fish that you had mapped as a habitat? Isn't a habitat a permanent marker with a number? As you mentioned in the beginning. And will your mapped group still be there tomorrow or will they move throughout the season? And then just be gone the next season. How do I get the habitat markers, with the number, so that I can manage the amount of tonnage caught over the course of a few seasons. Given all the trouble, couldn't I just survive on bartips alone? Info out there is scarce - one would think the devs would be high and proud and shout this shit from the rooftops. Anyway, any help appreciated. Otherwise, thank you for the trouble :)

Fish can only be caught within the boundaries of a habitat. All species have 2 habitats except for Scallops which has 6. It is possible to discover habitats without getting tips from the bar using only your sonar but bar tips make the process much easier and bar tips reveal the habitat number you mentioned. 1-2 fish, crabs, lobster or 1-6 for scallops. Yes. Habitats do move throughout the season (except scallops, they never move). The habitats move slowly enough to keep track of if you check on it often enough. When fish goes out of season the habitat is removed from the game and fish from the habitat are no longer visible on sonar. I did come up with a faster way to map out the rough boundaries of a habitat and you can see me do it in some of my quick start tutorials. Habitats are always 2 Nautical miles wide and if you start on a path from behind your tip location moving towards the tip location in the direction of the arrow until you locate the approxomite edge of the habitat using sonar, you can then roughly guess the borders of the habitat. The center of the habitat will be 1 nautical mile in front of you in the direction of the arrow. mark the center then measure out 1 nautical mile from the center in every direction to create a 2 NM wide circle. This works well to give you a rough estimate of the habitat boundries without having to painstackenly map it all out with sonar.

@@battlecrom5463 That beautifully ties it all together. Can't thank you enough - very much appreciated. Apologies if my tone was off, not directed at you. Just in the trenches, trying to grasp it all. Good luck with your channel, I'll be coming along, if you don't mind :)

Why dont you hit the nets head on? You show you plotting a course to hit them at an angle

Personal preference. I find it easier to successfully get the net on the 1st try if I hit it at an angle.
