Fishing in Gator Infested Canals...
Спорт
Day 3 of my south Florida trip and I wanted to get a little closer to the wildlife. Found a dirt road and used my @Heybike electric bike to get to the spots to fish. What a trip it was, new species and big bass along the way, with alligators all around.

16:18 Pike killifish (Belonesox belizanus). It is neither a pike, nor a killifish, nor a gar. It is in the livebearer family, very closely related to mosquitofish. They've native to Central America.

I breed em. They're super cool and aggressive little dudes.
Pike Killifish. Always enjoy your videos. They are so inspiring. Like you I would probably be extremely excited by catching the Pike Killifish! Something new is always cool! I just had to laugh about the back and forth with the warmouth vs the LMBs.

Came here to ID the fish glad someone else did! I was going to call it a pike livebearer haha not a native fish either way.
I love this channel. Everything on TV makes me ill. Thanks John. My dad taught me to fish. I thank him as well.
God bless you John. My wife likes your videos too because they're peaceful and simple. Your footage has gotten so much better, music montages are awesome, blues country music is sweet. Keep up the great work bud ❤❤
Been fishing to Florida once and man, I loved it, watching your videos is making me want to book a trip there this month !!! I'm here in good ole Missouri waiting for spring to get here, going through fishing withdrawals . Great video like always!!
I like all of your videos, but your Everglades videos are my favorites. Exploring and hopping from fishing hole to fishing hole looks like a ton of fun and the diversity of fish is amazing. I surf fished the whole time I was last in Florida. Now I regret not taking a day to explore the Everglades.
No daydreaming while bank fishing down there; looks like a lot of big fish if you can get to them without getting caught yourself!
Cool bike you got there, I would say it is safer to stop at those side areas than kayaking those canals, some new species of I've never seen, I bet you wish you were down there right now!👍
Your style reminds me of my childhood here in Maryland. Walking the creeks and fishing smaller light tackle. Great work
That electric bike 🚲 was zooming Jon!!! Wooooooo weeeeeeeeeee!!! I love those spotted sunfish!! I caught some when i was at Crystal River, Florida last winter
Whaaaaaaaattttt?!?!? You didn't catch me one o' dem little Gators?!? (Hee hee hee hee hee)! Just messin' with ya, Brother. You be careful out there amongst them 'Gators, ok? You've sure come a long way, from the first time I ever saw you in a video. You and your Mom were sittin' out on the ol' Creek Bank, and you were catchin' some purty good fish, including a nice-sized Catfish. Remember that? You probably didn't even have a whole lot of Subscribers back then, maybe a few thousand. My, how times have changed! You're less than 2,000 Subscribers short of having 150,000 Subscribers! You kept on, keepin' on, and God has blessed ya mightily! Now, you've got sponsors and all that...and it's all based on one word-Persistence! The most important thing, though, is that you kept Jesus Christ first and foremost, and, to this day, you continue to be a witness for Jesus Christ! I love that! You have a great night!
Down in my neck of the woods. Always new stuff down here never dull moment with the gators around either. I'll be fishing that area in a lil bit.
Great video, editing and music! Love seeing our State in its best remaining wilderness. So many places to explore and fish. Glad to see you enjoy it John!
Love the channel. You go all over the place. Creeks, rivers Lakes and other states as well. Really liked this video in Florida. Many species. And I loved the bike. Super Cool
John, Thanks for sharing, Great Video and let's me go along . God Bless You.
Love your content Brother! Gotta say I would never camp in a tent, maybe my truck but not by a creek in Florida. Just saying 😅. God Bless 🙌
You need a rod and fishing gear holder on that bike. Love your channel. I watch every video.
When I fished in Florida in the 80's nobody was fresh water fishing. It was hard to find a freshwater bait shop or a bait shop that sold freshwater bait like worms and night crawlers.
It's just crazy how large some of those bass get in those canals! I can't buy a 5 pounder near where I live, yet there are monsters swimming around in so many places in Florida! Absolutely loved catching your bait on one side of the road and then walking across the road to catch a quick bass. Wash, rinse, repeat! Took longer to catch the bait then the bass! Great video! Blessings!

Great Everglades series to warm up your northern Yankees brother. You were like a kid in a candy store with money burning a hole in your pocket. I want to get back down there. 1-1 record for those trips. Watch out for the gators John and blessings
Great video beautiful place John I really enjoy your videos I am hope I get to go again soon been having to be a taxi service for family
Those Fl bass are so beautiful.
Glad you had your eyes peeled for them gators. We don't need for you to come back to Tn missing an appendage! Looking forward to the next video!
Great video and love your channels! You are inspiring and enjoy all your videos.!! Have a good evening and weekend.
Always slaying the fish. Looking forward to see what you catch this year. Peace and Blessings
I think those little fish were pike killifish.
Awesome adventure John 😎thanks brother
Got behind on watching your videos. My energy level has been running low. I've been using what energy I have had for household chores and Bible studies. After seeing this video, I'm sorry that I haven't kept up with you. Your videos have been enjoyable. Your video quality has most definitely improved. Keep doing what you love and loving what you do.
Found a picture on Google they were baby alligator gar you could tell by the width and the upper part of the mouth being hinged. They were really cool .🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣
John, those fish are known as Pike Killifish...They grow to about six inches in length.

Bingo! Livebearer gar 😅
I lived in the Naples area for 20 years and fished that area that you are in when I first moved there. 3 times I had to deal with alligators coming at me with the fish on the end of the line. Another time I was standing on the edge of canal when I looked down at my feet and there was a 4' gator 1 foot away just under the water looking up at me. No mas!! I only fished that area from a boat after that. But you do catch some wild stuff.
Very cool video. Thanks for sharing and have a Blessed Day
Looked Like super fun. Great vid
Peacock bass - very pretty fish!
That was a really cool looking fish. Florida seems like another world for fishing compared to TN. Great video as always, stay safe John!
This was a FUN adventure!!! I applaud the warmouth LMB catches!!!!
Nice shades John!
Great video it looks like this was an awesome trip!
Great Video. You need to build pole holders for the bike. It is so important to have both hands on the handle bars of an e-bike. A rear rack with a homemade pole holder (PVC pipe) is awesome. Be Safe.
Cool video. I was pretty sure you hadn't released all your glade videos yet. Sweet. Fish on
Those Pike Killifish you where catching make good bait, snook really like them.
Still lovin your channel John. God bless you.
Yeah I was going to say😊 same thing baby spotted gar great video my friend Mikey Daytona Beach Florida
try the Withlacoochee River near Floral City, Fla not far off 75. Has both fresh and brackish Small boat (Kayak or ?) fishing.
16:40 Its a Belonesox belizanus. The biggest species of the poceliidae family. They are carnivores. (my old professor had some in an aquarium)
That Hybike is a great tool for a shorebound angler!
you should do a video going across the okefenokee taking out at stephen c foster in fargo ga. That camping trip - canoe trip would be right up your alley. tons of different species and of course the cypress trout aka bowfin . Also the jackfish are fun to get into.

It's been a while since you used that intro. Thank you. I love it.
nice bike good fishing
Reminds me of fishing Buffalo Bayou and residential lakes around Houston TX.
Remarkable how little traffic there was. Have you considered using telescopic rods? I can carry three fully rigged spinning rods and reels in a small knapsack. And a normal knapsack I can get five.
I think you caught some juvenile spotted gar but i could be wrong they look it though. loved the video stay safe!
Love the way you fish that the way me and my cousins grew up and still do
Always look forward to your winter florida canal vids.got in laws down there ,live in tn like you.could do it fairly easily except the wench doesnt travel well.🙄
Hey buddy. I laughed pretty hard over the bike. Great idea. Why not! Let me know when you work with these electric bike manufacturers to develop a moving lounge chair/leather recliner. Dude, you get that made and marketed, you will hit the big money!!! LOL. It will need arm rests though for the TV remote and the big Yeti Thermos mug. :) Love this video John, Love to see you getting after them like this. Hope you will make more of these in the winter months. The only drawback is I don't know if there is a Mexican Restaurant nearby though.... ;)
Awesome John! I had plans to be in Florida fishing the end of this week but plans fell through :(

Oh no!
Websites say those Pile Killifish can grow maybe up to 6" on average depending on the species...Sure would NOT want to get bit by all those teeth, even from a little one!! Also glad you used the bike..way too much risk with the kayak on Florida waters!! ( can't believe you slept next to gator waters, tho!! YIKES!!
If you're still in Florida, swing by Vero Beach, we can get after some tarpon in the canals / creeks. ✌
The Pike Killifish was a nice catch. Watch those gators don't get a 'catch' of their own! 😉
Always good stuff John! God bless! #615FISHING
As flat as Florida is, you should able to do 30 plus miles before a charge.I'm joying your videos. Thanks
My brother went to Lakeland Community College back in the early 70s and his track coach would take them bass fishing with bluegill he said they caught some giants !!
I wish you would make a vid together with M.hood fishing. Would fit!
Come to the Jacksonville Florida area and I can put you on some salt water fish… plus I wanna be in a video collaboration.
You ever thought about putting your bike between you and the the fishin hole? So if a gator ever did bust out he’d hit the bike. Could also open up more spots that you’d normally keep your distance from. Just a thought
If you ever come to Fort Myers I would love to see you fish my area
That fish is a pickerel right? Crazy thing is I recently caught one out of a big pond near Charlotte nc. Blew my mind I had no idea anything like that was around here. It was probably 12-13 inches. Bit a Minimax chatterbait.

turns out it was a full grown Pike killfish, an invasive species
Question: as far a smallmouth fishing do you think painted jig heads have an advantage over unpainted? No one seems to agree. Thanks.
Me too John, I love watching your channel and nyst as nice to see a bible verse at the end of your videos ! Wish I could be doing what you’re doing but not possible for me. Idk 🤷♂️ what those last fish you were asking about, maybe they’re gator bass 🤷♂️
What is the campgrounds you stayed at!?
I want to see you fish live bait on a bobber at these places. Just use small bream/sunfish.
@lukeherdaii9528

Yea, that works for me. I had a fall that makes it difficult for me to crank for very long at a time and live bait n bobber is my solution. Makes no difference to my fishing buddy, a big ol black lab, we just love getting out there. Great Florida video.

@lukeherdaii9528 do you use slip bombers? I recommend them to you highly. I love too fish that way
@lukeherdaii9528
6 ай бұрын
@@bluesdad54 I am not familiar with that. I live between two nature preserves and right between a river and a creek that feeds it so I drop traps in the creek and use the minnows. Mostly chubs but others show up as well. It’s great fun. I’ll look into the bombers, thanks.

@@lukeherdaii9528 I'm sorry, auto correct. I meant slip bobbers. There are plenty of vids on KZread to learn the rigging. Makes casting a bait rig much easier.

Didja skin him, and use the skin for luggage? I'm not kidding around. That sounds impressive! How much did he weigh, or did you get a weight on him? I've heard of people catchin' Alligators and Crocodiles before. They say that ya gotta be really careful, or you could lose a limb, or even your life! If you're being sincere and truthful about gettin' an Alligator today, then congratulations to ya...and you're a lot braver than I am, that's for sure! At 61 years old, I'm still pretty strong, but I don't know if I could do that!

Dude from Tennessee knows more about fishing in my state than me….lol…but I know where the permits are😉
i dig that bike
Use the non-native pike topminnow for bait rather than the native warmouth.
War mouth. It's still funny, I use to work with a guy, and his last name was warmouth
what species of fish was it?
Had to stop to much fun
What brand shirt is that?
What fish did you catch in Florida man what kind of fish are there in Florida
Most Gators in one day was 279 . 1992 .
Is that a pickerell?
It’s a Pike Killfish Topminnow
Those things you're calling warmouth don't look like warmouth. They look like shellcracker babies. By the way that water is fresh
They make cell phone apps that can identify plants. You take a picture, submit it and it comes back with an answer. There must be a fish ID app.
Those tiny fish looks like some type of juvenile gar species, I cud b wrong
Have you ever seen run into any of the big snakes?
