The ones with yellow spots on their sides are spanish mackerel, not kings. Have caught plenty of both in SWFL (and they're both delicious BTW 😁).

Some are spanish mackerel no? They have a more gradual lateral line. Juvenile Kings look so close, Spanish mackerel have the spot on the front dorsal too.

I caught a King about 15 years ago, at the time few believed I caught one in cape waters, it tasted fine on the grill.

They are much better to eat then bluefish, and the Spanish mackerel are top quality meat.

I don’t know about the fish early on the video but the last bigger one was a King Not Spanish. Young Kings can have yellow spots that fish had the lateral line that dipped sharply below the dorsel fin which makes it a King. Also, if quickly bled and iced they are delicious. They a awesome steaked and grilled. Ok frozen but not for long.

For those saying that they are spanish, you are wrong. All juvenile kings.

We've cooked and eaten king mackerel before but have yet to find a good recipe. Any suggestions @Joe Baggy?

On The Water Media. Smoke it and make fish dip. Makes great sushi and sashimi. Remove the bloodline under the skin, that stuff is heinous. My favorite: take the loins, roll in black pepper and sesame seeds and sear like tuna. Serve with Ponzu sauce.
