Fishing for INVASIVE SPECIES in NJ...!!! (Hunt for Species [99])
Спорт
2022 EP42: In this EPF video, I search for a very specific species of fish that is invasive to the state of NJ.
[July 10th, 2022 (Fishing Sessions Number 73)]
Read more about it below:
Did you know that...?
👽...The first fishing session at Newton Lake in Collingswood, NJ, was on August of 2012. Alas...it has been almost ten years since I have first fished it. Up to date, I have caught more than 10 different species of fish from that watershed. Inner Circle Members can access its folder here: extremephillyfishing.smugmug....
👽...Despite being a full time fishing KZreadr nowadays, I have a Bachelor of Science in Physics and a Masters in Education from Temple University. I also thought about pursuing a PhD in Physics back in the days; though, I ended up opening a LLC and doing private tutoring instead.
👽...The 2022 New Jersey Fishing Digest states that anglers must kill all invasive species of fish that they catch, accidentally or not. You can check the full document here: www.nj.gov/dep/fgw/digfsh.htm.

Interesting back in the 70's I rode my bike to many of the places you fish today, glad to see these fishing spots still exist! Keep going, we used to ride the Patco High Speed line to our fishing spots!

Hi Leo. Down here in fla. The locals in Miami are targeting snakeheads cuz they hit hard, fight good and taste good 👍😋
Nice work out there brother, one of the reasons why I've been watching you for so long is the scientific approach you bring to fishing.
Yesss! More fishing videos around my area lol. Great video leo newton hasn't been too kind to me for fishing but you always seem to catch fish even in the toughest spots. Keep it up
love the content bro! learning a lot, especially the scientific names for the fish. Kind of interesting, imo. Tight line man!
Just another great video. Loving the every 2 day drops!
LOL those turtles vibin at the end made me so happy
Best fishing channel on the Tube!
Great video! Congrats Leo on #99 for 2022! Did not expect that your target was a warmouth. We pushed for triple digits last year since we had a FL trip in April. I went over 100 in July and am pretty confident you will do so soon if not already. Can't wait to see what species that may be.
Slayin em! Good video as usual . Keep up the great content
Take it easy Leo. Hahaha you get too excited 😁 love the channel keep them coming.
Leooooo my brotha man keep up the grind man it’s paying off slowly but surely you are a legend EPF for life Fishhhonnnnnn🤙🏻👍🏻😄
I liked you talking and watching the fish hooked on
Leo Snakehead actually taste pretty good just so you know!👍🏼🤷🏽♂️ Finished my treatmemts and EVERYTHING IS LOOKING GOOD!💪🏽💪🏽 Thanks for being here to help me through it!!! Your videos kept me connected to the outdoors when I wasn't physically able to get out and fish! God bless and TIGHT LINES BROTHER! Next time you come to EAST TENNESSEE ( NORRIS LAKE , CLINCH RIVER Or TELLICO are a must) shoot me a message! I would be honored to show you some KILLER SPOTS!!!!!
Another informative and humourous video!! Strange fish that snakehead! Thank you 😊.
This was a nice little video but I gotta say, I’m really pumped for the video where you catch all those blue catfish, hopefully coming soon
When you were talking about invasive species that like to eat small fish I thought of many for California like largemouth bass, spotted bass, brown trout or striped bass... all those fish people get butt hurt over you keeping.
@nissan300ztt

Keeping a few is fine. But ive literally saw people at my local lake haul 5 homer buckets full of bass out of a very pressured lake. And then people wanna know why all the fish are small. Well maybe some people should learn Catch and Release.
@nickna694

that seems like too much fish, what could they be doing with it? Maybe stocking their own pond. The max here in CA I've seen that is legal is 5 black bass any size from Shaver Lake.

Great video brother!

16:54 Leo just straight up dropped that Bluegill on top of that turtles shell 💀
Dude, dope channel
Beautiful species nice catch Leo
Mind blown ! I have been trying to land my first Snakehead and it nevvvvver dawned on me to use the EPF Swim 💥💥💥💥💥💥🙌🏻!
Love the videos as always. Should do some trout catch and cooks, get the view count back up 😁
Those pliers look pretty cool!
I took my son out today to net mosquito fish, want to go back to see what eats them. I then went out and eh slayed crappie. I enjoyed your sentiments at the end, time is a cruel thing
The same idiots confusing bowfin for snakehead are probably the same people that think all sunfish are Bluegill 😂
Dude, Leo my man. I have a challenge for you... Catch one of the ridiculous amount of trout still left a Merry Place in Havertown PA. I spent 7 hours going up and down the creek chasing them yesterday with the EPF swim and trout magnet with NO luck! I caught 20 red breast, 3 smallies and 1 rock bass though lol. I fear these trout will die a dishonorable death if we don't catch them! Do they stop biting when the water gets too hot? You're the man!

Yes, sir. During the Summer time, when water Temps are very high, the Trout tend to stop feeding for most of the day. Sometimes, depending on the type of the Creek, it takes all their energy just to survive.
EPF is the goat. The dude knows everything, every vid is fire. Watching you motivated me to start my fishing channel a few months ago. I've been trying to keep up the content, but I'm struggling to get off the ground. Any tips to gain a little traction? I always have a ton of fun filming the fishing but the brutal part is spending hours editing videos for 10 views :(
Wazzzz up Leo Sheng!!!! I'm on 33 species for the year. But only fished in PA, NC, And SC
NJ IN THE HOUSE BABY
May I recommend Takanassee Lake in Monmouth County, NJ. My little childhood pond where my PB largemouth still stands at 5.5lbs. Species I caught there: Largemouth, pickerel, white perch, yellow perch, bluegill, pumpkin seeds, bullhead, sucker, carp, roach, black crappie, stocked brook and rainbow trout, and eels. Species rumored to exist there that I never caught: striped bass, smallmouth bass, channel catfish, rock bass, warmouth, green sunfish.
Finally early to something the video looks clean
Thats my stopping ground. If thats where I think it is they are dredging the entire body of water and removing all the pads
haha wait! the warmouth is the same species I had you identify for me on IG... at the same lake! I wish I would've caught a snakehead tho :(
Only papa EPF can do it
That wee snakehead was approximately the same size as my first and so far only snakehead.
Leo I know the lake. They drained it almost completely down for well over a year to do some work on certain areas. That's why the spatterdock are all dead
@extremephillyfishing
2 жыл бұрын
I had no idea, Kevin. I heard of the dredging plan to make the lake "deeper," but I didn't think they were going to drain the thing. Man...the majority of cover from the Lake was gone.
Let’s go!!!!
Have actually seen people sited for not killing an invasive species.
Wow. I have fished this lake 5 ir 6 times from boat specifically targeting this snakeheads and never caught one. You show up on the bank and catch one with no problem. You da man Leo lol

Come back to the Kirkwood lake. I’d fish with you. I’m good at catching arbor ramus 🤣
Those concrete platforms look like good spots to set up and catfish
Crushing snakeheads!
Nice outro
Ive caught 5 snake heads in my life and each one of them met a tragic ending roflstomped into mush on the shore.
Someday. you should partner up with BamaBass

Ha you have me thinking about my species count for the year so far, probably not even close to half your count and no salt water species 🤣
I’m at 18 for 2022. 32 for life.

When you TRY to catch a snakehead for a video they dont show up. When you dont want one its the first fish caught. Lol🤣
I've caught some nice bass right from that spot
Man, some weird bots in the comments. Anyway, nice snakehead.
Head for black horse pike end next year when dredging is done/ should be done
The spatterdock could potentially be dying due to excessive heat.
Leo... I'm a Leo too ..According to the zodiac calendar!
I am embarrassed to say ,though I have caught a lot of fish in 2022 ,only 3 species.
Hi to everyone who's gonna be early
Hey leo! I’m a fisheries student and I would love to know what kind of data you collect from your samples just out of curiosity. I am really interested since you mentioned that you sample and collect your own data early in the video. Thanks.

Indeed, Zach. I have a private database with photos and collection sites that is open to a few selected folks (extremephillyfishing.smugmug.com). I also collect fish scales from different species of fish and have personal notes on all necropsies that I have conducted in the past, such as anomalies found, stomach contents, etc. I also make notes for illnesses, etc.

Hey Leo, can you give me location where I can find some snakeheads ?
I still have never seen anyone catch a snakehead. Everyone has a phone and can easily look up bowfin and snakehead comparison so there's no excuse. It's pickerelweed not spatterdock. Some purple flower spikes are on the bottom right. It looks like the water level went low and dried out the shallow shoreline. The tops are an even color tan of a plant that dried out fast. Without seeing it I'm not giving a definite explanation.
You came to nj Leo and didn’t invite me ): I’m still hoping to fish with one, my birthday is also in 2 days so the best present would be to fish with you one day :) keep up the work!

Hey Leo, are there Warmouth in the Philadelphia area?
Warmouth in NJ who woulda thunk?!?
I see people argue over what a #rockbass is constantly on fish groups same with snake head bowfin peoples attention to detail is mediocre at best. Fall fish and creek chub is another one.
Pretty diligently almost at triple digits 🪝 🐠 🐟 🎣
Leo my name is George I met you at pennypack creek north east Philadelphia during trout season of 2022 we took pictures together.I wanted to tell you that I caught a 22 inch snake head on top of the falls I'm wondering how to get the pictures of the fish to you.I caught it with a rooster tail on a south bend fishing rod.
Imagine not knowing the difference between a bowfin and a snakehead smh. Although I do know people who can't tell between largemouth and smallmouth bass so...
Hey I would like to know what type of hook to use
Anyone willing to share the name of the lake? I live in Levittown and all the water here is so pressured. Really been looking for spots other than Silver lake and magnolia, Caroline and the canal.
What is your favorite area or aspect of physics?
@extremephillyfishing
2 жыл бұрын
Definitely Quantum Mechanics. A lot of cool stuff in that field, not to mention that everything starts to make sense once you reach that level of Physics. You learn where and how the Periodic Table came to be, how things behave at the "very small level," what is the foundation of all things in this world -- organic and inorganic, etc.

@@extremephillyfishing Does this mean that on the days that I get skunked there is another version of me catching fish in another dimension? Given the quantum probabilities and all. That would be fantastic!

Newton Lake in Collingswood, NJ. I think I left that in the description of the video.
I tend to relate to Fishers/KZreadrs who act on their own accord rather than fulfill some legislative "duty". Most of us would say... what's the point trying to kill every invasive in those waters when the war has already obviously been decided... just let those poor animals just trying to survive live man 🤦♂️🤷♂️💁♂️🐳✌🏞

Wher is this fishing spot?
In nj u don't have to kill the snakeheads u can let em go or kill em but u cant keep them alive out of the water kind of a weird loophole law instead of just requiring u not to throw it back and kill them they don't. Which really makes no sense unless they figured they don't do anything and not that much of a threat to ecosystem.

The thing is people are stupid, and don't know how to identify fish. For example: Me: Catches rainbow trout My dad: "Is that a bass?" Me:😐😑😐
