Thanks! Yeah we have an anchor, you want a chain at the bottom of your anchor attached to your anchor rope. It helps keep the anchor down in current.

I caught one off the shore in Alameda in 1989 but it was only around 80lbs but what a fight.

In NZ my first 7 giller was just smaller than the first one caught in the vid, right from shore! Some reason in NZ they love staying the really shallow water

Seven gill are one of the better tasting sharks! They used to be fished for commercially back in the day. You are allowed one seven or six gill shark per day. There isn’t a size limit on them. The world record was 342 lbs and it was caught in the same area just a few years ago.

@@wberkeleyk I’m not sure, it’s probably high, most fish in our waters here are high in mercury from my understanding. Sturgeon, striped bass, ect

What kind of sharks are those I don’t live by the ocean only fish fresh water? Also do you eat them?

These are seven gill sharks! They used to be fished for commercially. Usually we let them go, however we keep them occasionally!

My dad showed me that knot over 30 years ago and still my favorite and most trusted one i use.first time ive ever seen anyone else use it. Curious what you refer to it as

Phenix 808 but the first big shark on this was on a 806 which is a small rod!! These rods have a nice tip for seeing the bites because sometimes they are quick

The crazy thing about in the bay especially at night is you never know what's going to be at the end of that line. when it's a giant you definitely will know.

I'm surprised you are using Avet LX reels for these sharks. The LX was designed to be fished with 30# or 40# line and drag of 15# or less. More drag and you fry the pinion gear. The HX Raptor would probably be OK for your use or even the EX30. Also, have you tried the San Diego jam knot? It's easy t tie with heavy line and hold well.

The tackle is a little light for what we are doing but it’s worked okay for us so far. In the future we will upgrade our gear for sharks in the bay. During this time when we filmed this video, we weren’t tying the San Diego jam, but since tuna have been around here is one of the only knots we tie now. Thanks for watching!

We were using phenix 808 here, one rod was a 806 which was a little light. We did eat these, however we usually let them go!

Dog fish have a spine on the front side of their fin.

Was that a thrasher shark cause I cut a thrasher shark wants but it wasn’t that bad I was like 75 pounds or something like that but the tail was like 4 feet long look like

Get a meat pole and use a 3ft dog fish for bait.. you'll get a great white video .

Someone caught a 342lb seven gill in the same area a few years ago! And that same crew caught a great white, which is really rare but they are out there!

If a 6 footer is a giant, you don't know giant from a lollipop!

Giant one for here in the bay, there are much bigger sharks in the world, 7 gills here in the bay area, its a big seven gill.

I am an avid fisherman on the SF bay. My boat is Gut Feeling - a 17' Boston Whaler out of Richmond Harbor. I only take what I can eat during the week and come in. It's normally a halibut or a small bass as I let the Big Ones go to have more babies. Your using of barbed hooks to catch countless amounts of sharks is an abomination to our fishery. Every shark I catch I wet release into the bay. I only use barbless hooks. Bringing them onto your boat before releasing them gives them a 25% survival rate. If you gaff them and they are bleeding they have a 5% chance of surviving. My best friend is a biologist with Fish and Game and she agrees with this comment. I know you need to make money as a commercial party boat operator, but you need to step back and look at your kill rate. This ocean and environment will not survive with poor fishing practices. I would also say that all of the big 7 gill fish you caught on your video were breeding females judging by fin location. I may be wrong as I am not a biologist. I am simply a construction dude. I suggest that you catch as many fish as you like for sport, keep one big one to share and let everything else go. I want SF Bay to thrive with fish. If party boats continue to abuse our fishery, we will have nothing left.

Those are not “giant” sharks. But, perhaps it’s your “personal equipment” that you’re comparing them to, so I can understand your confusion. ;)

They aren't giants compared to other locations, however the area we were fishing, they are good size for seven gills.
