Agreed. They look Terrie but they’re my favorite fast food fish sandwich. I always get the 2 for 5 for lent. Otherwise they’re like 5 for one and they’re tiny.

The steamed bun is what really sets it over the top imo, also I’ve always wanted to try the double filet, might have to finally give it a shot when it comes back for lent next year (I’m assuming you can probably special order it any time of year, but what fun is that?)

The Wendy’s fish sandwich is really good, puts the Fish Filet to shame.

Reminds me of a comedy skit, where manager was re-training fast food worker to make the sandwiches more in their signature careless style. Actually said 'every sandwich INCLUDES cheese, but nowhere in the manual, does it state it must be ON the sandwich'. Bonus points for the haikus.

I've never seen another human being eat a Fillet-O-Fish sandwich quite the way you do.

I grew up right next to the McDonald's where the Filet of Fish was invented. Within 5 miles of it there about 8 Catholic churches. The owner was tired of seeing his business drop during Lent, so he came up with the sandwich and started serving it.

@@djjackson-pickett7558 Take a nice piece of cod from a fish and chips, but it was coated in breadcrumbs instead of batter, a nice solid piece with a meaty chew. Slather it in proper tarter sauce made with real mayo and chopped pickles. Add a slice of American cheese, serve in a steamed soft fluffy bun. Wait thirty years. Replace the nice piece of fish with mushy fish bits tof unknown origin. Replace the tarter sauce with oily slimy vegetable oil paste and vinegar. Shrink 25%. Charge 5x.

Under normal circumstances I would pass over a channel like this. It’s amazing what a common love for tinned fish will do. Also your content is really good. I appreciate you taking the time and creating these videos.

Filet O Fish is a minced patty of Alaskan pollock in the US. Most are made in my hometown of Gloucester, MA by Gorton's. I can attest that the quality standards and incredibly high for the fish patty - its not frankenfish, it's basically a big square fish stick deep fried. I love them but I wish they could actually line up the cheese -tartar sauce- bun. Every time I get one it looks like they had them stacked and someone knocked them over and put them back without telling anyone.

It’s too bad Gorton’s doesn’t apply quality standards to their own products.

You HAVE to have an order of fries to dip into the copious amounts of "tartar sauce". Also, if you want a fresh Filet-O-Fish, order it special. Like, have extra cheese, extra sauce, or what I do, is have them add some lettuce. They have to make it fresh when you do that instead of grabbing one of the pre-fabs they have sitting under the heater.

I tried that and they told me they dont do special orders on filet o fish - they make it one way and thats it. They also told me they dont put cheese on it. I stopped visiting that location after that.

The McDonalds near me doesn't have any fillets on the heater because I think they go entire days without people ordering it. Every time I order two, they kick me out of the drive-thru line and send me to their pickup spot. They're not fantastic even fresh though.

I'm kinda jealous now. I find myself want one (or two) of these myself for some reason. The mysterious pull of McD. Back in the day, when I got a fresh one, it would not even make it out of the parking lot.

The first Fillet O Fish into the Second Cut was actually hilarious!

Oh man Matthew this is great lol! I remember when I was a kid I thought that the Mickey Ds filet o'fish was 🔥🔥🔥!

IMO McDonald's is not nearly as good as it was when I was a kid. The Fillet O Fish is the only thing I still like on their menu. I hope that Arby's brings back their King's Hawaiian Fish sandwich during lent this year. That's a fantastic sandwich. Great video. 👍

It looks like maybe you needed some chopsticks with that mess! Lol! Thank you for being completely honest and admitting amongst the flaws you were still enjoying it! I’ve noticed they’ve started cutting corners with (not only the cheese), but the buns as well… they used to be magical, so puffy it was impossible to touch them without leaving an indent with your finger at the lightest touch, yet they were flawless somehow… now I can touch the buns, no marks… :0( But still, yes, I do still enjoy them and look forward to Lent season each year when maybe I can afford two! Yes still very enjoyable!!! :0) ❤️ PS I am also thankful to the filet-O-fish for another reason… as a kid I always heard that fish and cheese was a no no… I’m so glad they busted that myth! Lol

When in development, the chef came up with the notion of adding cheese. Cheese on fish was not and is not a thing. They compromised by going with half a slice. At least that's what I have read. I love them BTW.

My go-to McDonald's sandwich. They're always either hot, fresh, and wonderful, or dried out under the heat lamp until it's almost fish jerky. I'm eating it either way, though.

Is that a cello in the background? I’m a hardcore daily sardine eater and enjoy your channel a lot. Thanks for what you do. Knowing McDonalds, it’s a bunch of fish pieces put together. Their hamburger will not rot. Buy one and leave it out for 6 months. It doesn’t decay.

Thanks Matthew. I genuinely enjoyed this video review. The foods at McDonalds definitely have something about them that pulls you back to them all the time. It’s kind of a mild addiction to it. I could not say if it’s product quality of flavour enhancers or both but it’s there. I liked the Fishburger (Fish fillet with sauce and salad in a bun) a lot more than Fillet o fish, but unfortunately they stopped producing them some time back.

I think you're way too funny. I wish I had people like you around lol. Thanks for the poems and the review. I feel like I had one as a kid but never since. I would say once a year I try Mc. Donalds again to see if it still sucks. It will be but a whisper of my childhood, wrapped in what is now a sad shadow of food but not quite food itself. When I leave I tend to have a sense of morning about me. For the Big Mack, was not as it was.... 😆💓

Matt, you can usually save subpar fish fillet sandwiches with a generous sprinkling of Old Bay seasoning!

When I’m feeling puny, especially with an upset tummy, there’s nothing I want more than a Filet-o-Fish, small fries, and an orange drink. Nowadays McD’s doesn’t even have the orange drink of old, and I never really achieve full wellness anymore.

I found your channel because I had a can of Season Sardines in EVOO and I was looking for a comparison or review of these. I still have another can, and I subscribed to your channel to watch as I eat sardines. I think Im going to try king arthur next.

As someone who was raised in a family that didn't care for McDonalds; finally trying it (at 30 years old) is actually really good. I go there once a week at least, I like the McDouble with lettuce and mac sauce (no ketchup, mustard), I get two for lunch. I like the mcnuggets too, with honey mustard.

I've been on a huge fast-food fish fling recently and the two best ones I've found so far are Arby's and Hardee's
