First Wash in 46 Years Triumph GT6 Barn Find Disaster Detail Full Car Cleaning

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This is a 1973 Triumph GT6 that was driven for 3 years and left in a barn since 1976. For 46 years the Triumph has not been washed or detailed. When I arrived the classic car was in a barn and a complete disaster in need of a full car cleaning and restoration. We performed a waterless wash inside the car garage that is a getting a makeover. Next we polished and compounded the paint to reveal the most satisfying before and after ever. I also used the new AMMO Steam Vacuum to clean the fabric that does not leave behind heavy moisture or require days for drying. We also removed the seats for a complete interior detail, window cleaning, mold removal, and paint coating application. The transformation was the most satisfying full car cleaning in a long time. My buddy had a 1973 triumph spitfire that he got when we were in high school. His grandpa had this exact same car in the video, and the spitfire under tarps behind his house. (He was from Vietnam but moved to Michigan). When he turned 16 his grandpa gifted him the spitfire. For a long period of our senior year we spent hours after school hanging out in that back yard getting it running. It was a nice change of pace because we both rode dirt bikes and were constantly working on them together. It was such a fun little project. By the summer we had it road worthy and would drive it around town on Friday nights. Go to Applebee’s, cruise, etc. it was the most amazing little car ever. Eventually he took full ownership of it and brought it to his house where it stayed for 3-4 years. We would hoon it around and just have an absolute ball in that thing. Last spring he sold it to make room in his pole barn for other projects. It was pretty sad. I’ll never forget that little damn car. So many fun memories.

My grandpa has a spitfire and when we where restoring it for him the dash was pretty bad since its just plywood with a strip over it. What we ended up doing was finding a nice piece of walnut and cut it to fit inside so that the grain would match all the way through. it turned out really good.

Not washing for soooo many years. That rings a bell. I knew a guy who was one of the engineers in the engineering department, and you could tell if he had come in for work that day as soon as you opened the door and entered the engineering department. Had a red Mark II Spitfire as my first car in the 60's. Got it for 500 bucks and it was just 4 years old. Almost traded it in for a brand new green GT 6 in '69 (nicer looking rear end with the round tail lights) but I think the price was 28 grand which was a bit much for a 20 yr old at the time. Absolutely loved the restoration detailing. Couldn't believe the way it turned out. Super job.

In high school my body shop class restored a '73 MGB white / tan, it had like 30,000 km's on it, sadly it was stored under a tree so many panels need to be replaced same with the interior, we drilled out every spot weld, fixed ever single sq cm of the chassis, and tig welding it all back together it was so straight, and tidy that owners husband walk right past it when it was all back together saying they copied my wife car better then I would have expected our to turn out... the look on his face when everyone in the class let him know that it was his wife's car, mind you the student body/ painter was from a family with long history of car/boat/plane restoration, and the main welder was a high school champ, our teachers... forget about it they could fix anything anywhere lol

That green is so nice with the chrome! I can't believe how good it looked given how limited a work space you had, and battling the cold. Nice job!

You need to get your hands on that 510!! My jealousy level is pegged at about 12.

Larry, that was just awesome. I have very fond memories of an orange-ish GT6 (not mine) in 1973. Your "mow down" technique certainly earned the name on this one. Great Job!!

Crazy that barn finds as old and pristine as this are still found.
