@@RookerVision I think you were wrong when you did your frames per second evaluations, how did you get 60 frames per second when they are both (and I would say the series itself on ps2) 30 frames per second or less in this case for undercover. Your calculations are quite wrong, I think this video must be corrected or even deleted to remove research errors, cars could deteriorate, get scratched and have the windows broken also in hot pursuit 2. No really I adore you but it would be better to remove your video and rectify that, if only for the video game heritage. Thank you

@@fadedjate7230 Blackbox was tasked with making the PS3/360/PC versions but because EA wants money over anything else, they had to find another developer to squeeze out a ps2 port

I think graphically what makes Hot Pursuit 2 more pleasant to look at is a more balanced color pallet and contrast. Undercover PS2 always looked a bit overdone to me with saturation cranked up to eleven and way too high contrast. So as though the graphics might be better, the visual treatment looks somewhat amateurish, as Hot Pursuit looks/feels more natural despite the six year gap in graphical advancements.

The always-wet roads are a bit silly too. If they varied, and sometimes weren't there, that would have been a cool exclusive feature of the PS2 version.

Here's the think Dustin Even If undercover is very very problematic it's still enjoyable. It's not a good game but more but more a fun game.

You turned the damage of in hot pursuit 2. The damage model on it is amazing. Shows scratches, dents, broken lights etc

I like this ps2 version of undercover and on the wii but the hot pursuit 2 blew me away on the graphics when i was a kid the shadows,the reflection

Undercover actually looks more jaggy than hot pursuit here for me

@@RookerVision it's an unfair comparison tbh undercover was a garbage port, it's completely different from the main version on PS3, it would be better to compare HP2 to Pro Street or maybe Most Wanted as it was the last game made mainly for the PS2.

0:43 no they weren't, Undercover was developed by Exient Entertainment, was brought up late in development of the mainline version. Undercover on the Wii/PS2 was a quick cash grab, the game is almost entirely made of repurposed assets from Most Wanted and Carbon.

No its not a cash grab. It reusing Carbon as a base makes it much better than main Undercover release. Its fun to play and succeeds with look and atmosphere that PC/x360 version failed. If Exient had more time and got also PS2 Prostreet as resource it could have quite a bit more cars that PC version has and it wouldnt have any bugs.

@@Kacpa2 Making it out of MW and Carbon doesn’t automatically make it a non-cash grab game. You might’ve had fun playing it but that wasn’t EA’s intention when they decided to make it.

Exient Entertainment, the same developer who made DS versions of Carbon and Prostreet

NFSHP2 had the best damage models of any NFS game. You have to turn it on in the settings.

3:00 there is car damage in Hot Pursuit 2 that can be toggled off in the settings and it is much better than Undercovers

@@RookerVision I played it for the 1st time ever and I found it. All you have to do is start a race then pause the game, go to options and you will see damage. It's set to off by default so turn it on and you have damage.

Wait until you play the HD version. PS2 was the low quality version. Entirely different plot and map.

Oh C'mon, RockerVision, HP2 and Undercover runs at 60 fps?) Really?) It is 30 fps with many slowdowns!! Every NFS on PS2 runs at 30 fps. Burnout (1-3), Gran Turismo (3-4) were 60 fps for sure

Hot Pursuit 2 is one of my favourite NFS games and still looks gorgeous to this day!! Also a bit unrelated but I'd love to see you cover the Max Payne series in the Side by Side series

Ha, I was actually going to bring up Need for Speed Undercover on your next first/last video. Undercover PS2 is one those games I consider a backport, where a company develops for new hardware (PS3/360) and ports the new content to and old engine on older hardware (PS2) to play it safe and cater to a larger audience while the new gen is still building steam. In this case, Black Box took all the new cars and levels from PS3/360 and used the old MostWanted engine. Most often this porting is done by outsourcing to a smaller developer. I see no dev on the game case, but according to wiki it was Exient Entertainment that did the Undercover port. I'm actually surprised it came out as well as it did. This scenario leads to some fascinating differences in the game. Depending on how many liberties the port is given, what game engine is used on the old hardware, and what generational gap there is. I'd love for you to compare backports to source material, especially weird stuff like Mercenaries 2 PS3 vs Mercenaries 2 PS2(running on Mercenaries 1 engine). Games like Iron Man 2, Star Wars Force Unleashed, Toy Story 3... Or heck, even Undercover itself!

The PS2 version of Undercover was made by Exient Games while BlackBox made the HD versions

Hot Pursuit 2 was the first ever in NFS in PS2 and it was first by BlackBox which is the first ever studio developed the franchise Also,the developing was intense by using stunt racer to gives some dicipline about stunt racing Plus,the Hot Pursuit action was awesome with police gives some challenge roadblock spikes and how aggresive Helicopter is also don't forget the freakin' awesome soundtrack that even "Hot Action Cop" makes special remake for their song "Going Down On It" play in intro

Does this mean we're finally getting Side by Side videos for these two games? I have been waiting for nearly half a decade to see them.

Hot pursuit personally looks better to me, but that's how I feel about games that were made for a console during its intended generation.

Theirs car damage in HP2. When the cops call in the chopper and you hit a bomb the windshield gets damaged, also dents and scratches. Also spike strips damage tires. You can't total any of the cars, but I can live with that.

What comes first to my mind is the city map in undercover that was reimagined from Most Wanted and Carbon's map. Some shortcuts on the road don't match with the map. They may be shown on the map, but you will crash into the (invisible) wall while trying to ride there. And the customization in undercover is very unintuitive due to the bad menu structure. Some decals and vinyls from previous games were completely cut. That leads us to a game created of the pieces of previous two. Just doesn't feel too good if you have experienced previous games. But considering it as a simple and fun arcade game for PS2 and not taking up the legacy, I'd say it's solid 7/10

Ahh. I never explored that much into the game. That would be annoying.

I dont hate Exient's(ps2/wii) version....i adore it to no end. Its PC/X360/PS3 version that i hate. Black Box failed with main release alot while Exient done their best in small time span using NFS Carbon as a base. In the end is far more unique and enjoyable of a game. It looks warmer and nicer compared to incredibly dull, generic and depressing pc version. Has fun cops from MW05 that are a bit bugged with spawning but not to a point where its annoying it just funny sometimes. Game captured that Vice City/Miami warmth and colourfullness even with traffic having wilder colours(which is also something Carbon or MW05 never had there traffic cars had a single colour per model. Handling model is really enjoyable. And this is the very last release like this with proper splitscreen which was missin on "next gen" releases and survived only for a bit longer on Wii only nfs games. Its up to 4 people on Wii which is amazing for coach play.

Hot Pursuit feels far more realistic and natural. Undercover huge amount of details makes picture really messy because the resolution is too low for that level of details. But most importantly Hout Pursuit is fun to play.

I love both games. I just had more fun with undercover is all. But I do see how someone could like hot pursuit 2 more

I honestly think Undercover on PS2 looks better colorwise than on 360 and ps3, so much more colorful and the sun doesn't blind you as much!

There is car damage in hot pursuit 2 ps2 edition and it has the best damage system in the whole ps2 nfs series

NFS Undercover on Wii/PS2 is a different team. But they reused Black Box's engine, as well as repurposed some assets from BB's other NFS games since this version is technically a cash grab since Wii and PS2 are still hotselling systems. Also, from what I've heard, this version was more favored by fans than the main version.

I completely understand the hate Undercover receives, it’s a mish-mash of a game. But if we are looking at the positive side of things, it was still very fun. Great car selection and nice sort of switch on the story of NFS games in the 2000s.

i remember playing undercover multiplayer with my friends man i need wii again.

This is a good idea for series. I wish you do this more often. Compare earlier console titles to later console games. But gotta be same franchise or similar type of games and please be sure to include framerates.

I think your framerate tool failed you :) none of them are near fluid 60fps but undercover might be even under 30 too... actually both are pretty terrible fps-wise, veeeery variable :(

Absolutely. Both run around 30 with drops. I like this channel normally but it's missed a lot here. HP2 has damage also. And all games from that era have aliasing issues. It was just hidden with CRTs and flicker filters.

Black Box did not develop the PS2/Wii port of NFS Undercover. Exient Entertainment from the UK developed it, reusing assets from NFS Most Wanted 2005

Great video. Undercover was a very underrated game mostly due to it not ever being finished. Black box should have had 2 years to make it instead of being pushed into an annual release. This game was even supposed to have multiple endings and storylines depending on what you as the player chose. Edit: but the ps2 and wii versions are just huge cash grabs for people who didn't have a 7th gen console.

Oh i remember getting Undercover for the PS3 back in the day and it was bad, very unfinished until year later i traded for the PS2 version and the PS2 was okay it just bad graphics but better gameplay than the PS3 version because it was a reskin of Carbon and Most Wanted.

If you have dual monitors, setting up the camera in front of the script might mitigate that issue

He really called that ugly trash crisp. I guess the edges are so sharp you could call them sharp.

@@RookerVision Killzone Shadow Fall was a launch title. And well Cold War is the last triple A fps on PS4 that matters in my opinion.

Cool review man, however you should have pointed out how different the physics are. Hot pursuit 2 had way better free flowing physics more similar to nfs underground and undercover basically had nfs carbons stiffer physics. Anyways awsome content as allways

I like Nfs Undercover. On the ps2 version of undercover you have the police version of the lamborghini gallardo,Porsche 911 & Ford mustang. On the ps3 version you only have the police Nissan Gtr

NFS Undercover looks excellent on Playstation 2! The other versions, that were made by EA Black Box (PC, Xbox360, PS3) will simply kill your eyes, because of the overblown the bloom is and not to speak of the bad blur effects. The Wii version is sadly quite lackluster in graphic department 😔 Also the gameplay isn't good either, but at least you eyes will not bleed. But never the less, NFS Hot Pursuit 2 on the PS2 is an absoluet gem. Excellent gameplay, driving feel, graphics. And if you play it in an emulator and upscale the graphics - WOW! 🤪🙂😁👍 Oh, and there is car damage in the PS2 version I don't know why it doesn't work for you. Maybe it is turned off?

Hot Pursuit 2 is the more superior game imo because EA Black Box put a lot more focus into developing the game than they did with undercover

Good review Undercover was a great game. I hadn't play NFS Hot Pursuit 2 for PS2 didn't notice there was no career mode. There some what it is in the PC, Xbox and Gamecube version. Maybe I'll have to check it out for PS2.

Need for Speed hot pursuit is a better game I you to play this game when I was young a lot I remember beating this game and getting every car I have this game for the Nintendo GameCube

What headset do you use?

Although Undercover clearly has a lot more polygons/object going on and such, in its environment, I does have more 'dancing lines' and looks a lot jaggier than Hot Pursuit 2. Maybe it's because of the capturing process, but the cars in Hot Pursuit look smoother and less jaggy than Undercover. I've never played Undercover, so also not on a CRT TV, so maybe the jaggies are less of an issue on a CRT. But on this video, Undercover is kind of an eyesore compared to Hot Pursuit 2. Has been ages since I played the PS2 and don't have a CRT TV anymore.

I love NFS Undercover for PS2 as well! Funny enough, the only two NFS games I own for PS2 are Hot Pursuit 2 and Undercover. The game's just so, so, so, so fun! I still play it too this day. Can't believe all the negativity it got. It's a great game. Loads of glitches and other problems, but still great. :) Loved the review!

The xbox version and the PC version and Nintendo gamecube version of hot pursuit 2 was made by a different developer It was not black Box

HP 2 doesn't support 16:9 normally on PS2.... But there's a patch file for emulation for 16:9

This question is what Undercover is hated for : Yo, guys, how do i turn off the Catch up mode during the career in PS2? These rubber-banding AI were killing me especially in Highway battle! You make up a gap from them and then suddenly they just passed you ten times the speed of light! Like wut?!

I dont know why EA used engine from previous NFS to do NFS Undercover in PS2, I mean the PS2 was capable to move the Xbox 360 version without, WITHOUT any reflection and shadows but with fully visual damage that make the difference with other NFS for PS2 🤷‍♂️. Like Pro Street but in this case uses the same engine like in the Xbox 360 but without any visual damage🤦‍♂️At least they could have put visual damage in the PS2 versions 👍 Both games are good, but they could have been be better😎

Hot pursuit 2 is definitely a fun racing game and being to play as a cop adds to the appeal. That said, having a good storyline makes a racing game more worthwhile to play. Most wanted (ps2), I feel was way better than most wanted (ps3) cause of the storyline. Free roam on both platforms and obviously, the graphics were better, but it didnt feel the same imho.

The PS2/Wii version of NFS Undercover was developed by Exient Entertainment, not by EA Black Box.

Hot Pursuit 2 to me definitely looks better especially when played with component cable, its almost like you driving through a real world simulator because of the high detailed environments, the special effects and the dynamic lighing and effects that really give you that imagination it is all real. Undercover instead looks straight like a video game because it appears all cartoonish. Whats also to note, when you drive through water, the windshield wipers turn on, yes working windshield wipers! Undercover is only good on the PC, Xbox and PS3. The PS2 variation obviously is a redesigned "Most Wanted" and lacks alot of content that had to be cut due to the age of the console even though Sony did release new models with better tech each year until 2009 when the final slim model was released, but techwise it wasn't a leading console anymore because its legacy was 9 years old and the next generation PS3 was out since 2005. EA Seattle along EA Canada was the original NFS Development team, before Hot Pursuit 2 they worked on NFS Motor City/Motor City Online (1999 - 2003). Black Box additionally was given the chance for the first time to develope the PS2 release of Hot Pursuit 2 and due to its success it became a major part of EA Canada and the further main developer of NFS. Its not surprising that it looks better, at the time the PS2 releases of many EA games were much more advanced and enhanced on the consoles (NASCAR, Madden, NBA, NHL, NCAA Football, March Madness, MoH, SSX 3 to name a few) because not everyone had such a powerful PC, although the PC/GC/Xbox titles look good and like most of the pc video games at the time. I actually have HP2 for the PC and three times for the PS2 (two boxes are still originally sealed for the PS2). Own every NFS title since 1994 the R&T presents: The Need for Speed Special Edition up to NFS Hot Pursuit 2010. Some I own for both systems PC and PS2.

You should compare undercover to most wanted

Undercover for the PS2 (and Wii) are also very different games compared to 360, PS3 and PC. Those ports were not even made by Black Box and they reused a lot stuff from Most Wanted... Like at least HP2 feels like Hot Pursuit on both of the versions, while Undercover for the PS2 (And Wii) used the same game engine from Most Wanted, unlike the main game...

This is pretty much out of the context, the PS2 version of HP2 is wayy better than the PC one. And I prefer HP2 over Undercover (PS2) because HP2 blew people's mind away with their beautiful graphic and you don't get bored even playing a long track with 10 laps

But I had to pick between the two I'd pick my favorite Need For Speed game of all time!

There is no difference, aside from slightly better graphics and sound FX on the PS2. Same engine, content, and gameplay.

Undercover doesn't look so hot on the PC compared to Burnout Paradise or Sega Rally.
