First Use Minwax Ebony Stain

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Here at Apple Valley Farm, we love trying new tools and products. And while we're no stranger to stains, we'd never used the Minwax Ebony stain before this.
Join us as we take it for a test drive and see how it reacts with our typical reclaimed wood.

How did you stain the single 2×4 that's sitting on your bench to the right of the boards you're demonstrating? The one that looks like solid black.

Not sure. We got a lot of different species when breaking down a pallet. Most likely though, a cherry or mahogany.

I just tried it, it barely made a very light gray on pine 😅 do I have to shake the can or something?

Oh yes. You'll always need to stir your stain. Shaking it is better than nothing, but stirring is best. Just use a paint stirrer stick...you'll see why when you scrape the bottom. All that pigment settles down there. That should make a huge difference.

This is going to sound bad, but no. I don't even know what conditioning entails. ;)

@@AppleValleyFarmGA Not really necessary when you're just doing swatch tests. When you get to the real deal, you're going to want to condition it. The min wax site has a couple short videos that walk you through the process. I dig the ebony, I've done the "Coffee" and " Deep Ocean" with fantastic results on birch and maple.
