First Transgender Woman’s International Chess Master?

Ойындар

FM Yosha Iglesias has put her name in chess history as the first-ever transgender player to fulfill all the requirements for the Woman's International Master title.
The title has not been confirmed yet and is pending FIDE's approval.
Last summer I challenged Yosha for a game in my birth City of Paris. I never posted the video because I simply thought my KZread audience wasn't mature enough and ready for this.
But it's about time!

    Stop transgender and transsexual hate. Nothing wrong with someone born of one sex to want to express into the world as the opposite gender Women’s sports get barely enough views for any man to say that they care and are political warriors. Dina despite coming from russian culture that doesn’t educate in many lifestyles still learned about it and was able to invite transgender into womanhood, that takes a lot of emotional intelligence, and I’m very proud she can show the world you can enjoy chess with a brilliant trans woman. Btw trans women are some of the most emotionally intelligent, witty and lovely people you can meet. Please stop assuming everyone needs to live the way straight poeple live their lives and have the same goals.

    Chess is not gender neutral because male players are significantly better at top level than female players. Noticed how it's always men disguise as women the want to compete in women sport and never the other way around ?

  • @djtomleeuwen

    @djtomleeuwen

    3 ай бұрын

    @@allafleche No, there is no advantage for male or female chess players. When comparing then you should remove the outliers like Carlsen etc. When there are about 6% female players it is statistically expected that there are more male top players. But these top players only represent a very small portion of the total. There are more male players due to societal and historical reasons. There are as many male to female as female to male. But for most physical sports male to female have a statistical advantage. So for physical sports most competitors don't feel threatened when a 'weaker' competitor is added.

  • @allafleche

    @allafleche

    @@djtomleeuwen Except there is, sorry if the reality contradicts your world view. In a tournament, even way below professional level, we have "mixed" and "not mixed" tournament, that's a euphemism to say women only. That is because without it it the end of female chess. And not only because of statistical causes, since we don't have 6% of females in the top like we should have proportionally. The societal and historical reasons you put forward are pure hypotheses. Blacks were highly discriminated against at the start of the century in the US, that didn't stop them to develop Jazz. If you are good your succeed. I do not rank women lower than men in general, but for this very specific technical task of chess they are. It is just the obvious reality, why do you absolutely want to have men and women equal in everything ? To the point of denying reality when it contradicts your worldview ?

  • @allafleche

    @allafleche

    3 ай бұрын

    @musicjunk1000 You don't understand the argument, It's not about the number of players, but about the level of play. Of course there are fewer females players in general, but the level is also much lower. You would expect 1 out of 6 player to be a female player at any level, but it actually is not the case. If the sport is a 100m race of course the male runners are expected to be go faster (expect fake females ofc like the one in this vid), but in chess you end up with about the same difference in performance between the sexes, like in racing, which can be surprising at first. And the performance gap appears also at puberty. Why do ppl want males and females to be exactly the same at everything ? They have to bend the reality to make it conforms to it. It doesn't make men more valuable than women.

The feminist movement in the 1990s, like any social movement, was diverse and comprised individuals with varying perspectives. While there were feminists who embraced trans-inclusive ideologies, there were also differing opinions within the movement. Some feminists during this time were supportive of transgender rights and inclusion, recognizing the intersectionality of gender issues. However, there were also debates and tensions within feminist circles regarding the inclusion of transgender individuals, reflecting the broader societal discourse on gender and identity. It's important to note that views on this matter were not uniform, and individual feminists held a range of opinions on transgender inclusivity.

Why do you think the poster child (Riley Gaines) against trans women in sports is a cis woman who came in 5th place and only 2 of the 4 people that ranked above her were trans? There is literally no sport that trans women dominate because they are allowed to play. They aren't even vaguely close to dominating any sport. The idea that trans women will dominate women's sports is an imagined hypothetical future. There are sports that have allowed women for decades (like the Olympics) and they are barely even represented, much less dominating. I think there is a legitimate good faith debate to be had about trans people in sports, but it's hard to argue with anti-trans people that are so utterly divorced from reality.

Even if it were true what you’re saying that there was no reason to do it (the growing number of women choosing to participate in this system disproves that claim), it still doesn’t prove your earlier claim. Under FIDE women are not ranked or rated differently then men. It’s men who are segregated from women’s chess, not the other way around. The reality is that some hormonal, genetic, and brain scan research suggests gender and sexual orientation have a biological basis, and aren’t always corresponding harmoniously with chromosomal sex. In some studies they have found that certain brain regions of transgender women’s brains actually look quite a bit more like the brains of biological women than biological men. You're wrong if you think science invalidate trans people 🙃. If you like that much science read the academic paper... A 2008 study compared the genes of 112 trans women who were mostly already undergoing hormone treatment, with 258 cisgender male controls. Trans women were more likely than cisgender males to have a longer version of a receptor gene (longer repetitions of the gene) for the sex hormone androgen, which reduced its effectiveness at binding testosterone. he androgen receptor (NR3C4) is activated by the binding of testosterone or dihydrotestosterone, where it plays a critical role in the forming of primary and secondary male sex characteristics. The research weakly suggests reduced androgen and androgen signaling contributes to trans women's identity. The authors say that a decrease in testosterone levels in the brain during development might prevent complete masculinization of trans women's brains, thereby causing a more feminized brain and a female gender identity. source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Causes_of_gender_incongruence

    Trans people getting accepted in the rather conservative chess environment is something that's good for the future of the game and incredibly wholesome. People who hate on that should just shut up and realize we're living in the 21st century and grow up.

    I have a doubt tho. If for a top 200 rated male GM decides that he is never getting the limelight in men's chess,and decides to identify as a female,and fulfills all the requirements and goes on to play in women's section,isn't that unfair to the top women players?

    @@mashrafi_27 Well if someone really wants to transition and identifies themselves as a woman/man i don't see where that results in a problem. And if that person happens to popularize chess and makes the game more welcoming to everyone that's a good thing. If like in your example you're afraid the competition is getting corrupted and flawed the only people who have a right to complain about it are the woman competitor players and i doubt they will be toxic about it if that person in question is legit Trans. And if people think it's that easy to just transition they don't know any of the procedures you have to go through so i highly recommend doing research about that topic if you're interested.

    @@arrowofkira5658 As far as I'm aware, you don't have to go through a transition process to compete in the female category. You just have to identify as female. I could socially transition to female right now, instantly. That would make it much easier to become a titled player 😄

    @@Twigge125 I'm fairly certain when chess is about titles like fide international master, fide has the right to double check about your identity. So they would investigate about your everyday life and if you're not fulfilling the standards of whatever you signed up i doubt they hand out titles. I just want you to remember fide recently fined people because they were wearing sneakers instead of other shoes because it didn't fulfill their requirements so I'm sure they have penalties and a procedure for people to go through regarding male/female competition at higher levels.
