First Train! Short Line Rusty Rails, Working Grain Spur! Railroad Switching In America!
Finally a train runs on the rusty ex Norfolk & Western Railway branch line to Winchester Ag. Watch an SD45-2, an MP15DC and an SW9 working on the grain spur. 10 loaded covered hoppers cars were pulled and 6 empties were dropped off. This is the first train to run past Afton this year. First we see both sides and the top of the train on its way to the grain elevator. Then we see the switcher working the grain spur. Next we see the train head to Mt Zion to run around the cars to put the engines on the other end and continue back to their office. After switching the grain elevator, the train has to go a few miles further to do the runaround so they can head back in the direction that they came from. Check out the horn salute from the GP15DC on the grain spur! 6 axle units cannot enter the spur. Towns included in the video are Mount Orab, Sardinia, Macon and Winchester, Ohio. This ex Norfolk & Western Railway branch is owned by Norfolk Southern and leased to Cincinnati Eastern Railroad CCET. Trains operate on 160.860 and this video was filmed on January 2, 2020. Hey np
Love that trestle! The short line videos are my favorite, good job JT! 😊
I like how in the Midwest they still have the telephone and telegraph lines still in place along the tracks. I know some of the seldom used railroads still used them until not too long ago for switch and signal controls because it wasn't cost effective to upgrade them to fiber and wireless systems. One of my douche bag cousins in Indiana got some federal time about 10 years ago for scrapping copper off some poles along what he thought was an abandoned railroad that hadn't had a train down it in 20 years or more. Apparently some of the pairs were still being reserved for signal communication.
Ohhhhhh yeahhhh I love the grain hopper cars and the train horns, my favorite!!!!
Love this video. Like seeing these small, rural Ohio towns. Peaceful, quite, even clean of road trash. Must look pretty in the autumn.
Loved this video.. love the attention given to close up of rails before and after train passes over..wowww

Thansk Jaw tooth. Cool to see old rails in action! Love the Delaware & Hudson covered hopper- and the switcher in action! I image the hot smell you commented on were from brake shoes as it sounded like the brake were on during that pass. Please keep up the excellent videos!

There are a Lot more Short Line Railroads across the US than people realize. 👍
It’s great to see a switcher on the first train of the year.
Love your videos keep em coming!
Love seeing that ann arbor railroad grain hopper. Nice shots!
I love seeing old lines come back to life!!
I love the trestle shot especially when the SD45-2 is on it. That burning smell is probably a brake. It sounds like one dragging on at least that last car. As always a thumbs up and a thanks for posting!

That cool seeing a d&h coverhopper on the train. I lived in Delaware & Hudson county. And that was neat to see.
Better all the time
Seeing that engine running long hood forward was pretty awesome, all it needed was an N&W on it:)
Cinci Railroad, cool beans. YCR 332 Cincinnati East Terminal Railway .EMD SD45-2.is a 6-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division (EMD). EMD built 136 locomotives between 1972 and 1974, primarily for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (ATSF).
Really enjoyed that. Admire your stamina. We have a lot of preserved steam lines in the UK but some old abadoned lines are being used again. Hopefully more to come.
I still have not really figured out how to send a comment, but wait there is more ? Looks like I might have found it, really. I also figured out that your name is Brian and not Jaw Tooth. Thanks for all the videos you have taken in the past years, I have learned a lot about railroading in the last 5 months and that is not to bad for being eighty years old. Thanks A Lot. Smitty 3751 & 1673
Loved that 3rd load picked up at the grain elevators still showing old D & H heritage.
I noticed the last 2 cars leaving the grain elevators the wheels were locked up then they started turning after they passed by.
Happy new year Brian. You certainly get around a lot, enjoy all your videos, keep them coming. Thank you. Edward
I haven’t seen a Delaware and Hudson car in a long time. Thanks for showing us
That’s a neat little engine.
lol the spraypaint patch job, nice
Used to walk Claire yard as a child visiting my grandparents. My mother would tell me of how the yard was when she was a child. The office/restaurant/ crew change place at the bottom of that abandoned road across from the river crossing. Caught a couple of trains coming off that bridge on the peavine way back then. Your videos are awesome and as a short line or branch line junkie I really appreciate them. Been watching you for almost three years, keep it up!

Great harmonics from the trestle. Kinda reverbs into the tailbone and ribs.
Great video to start off the New Year!
This was a neat catch. Old spur lines or rarely used ones are super interesting to me
Thanks
Awesome catch with the D&H man, always love it when vacant track gets re-activated instead of being turned into some stupid rail-trail.

Same here those tracks are definitely seeing some new life and a lot of trains
that Elk Fork Trestle was like Music 🎼👂 ℹ could Hear NOTES 🎶 man !
332 built as EL 3657, SDP45, rebuilt after 1972 wreck with SD45-2 hood. Kids threw a switch and the EL train ran into a siding at speed, I think everything above the frame was replaced as it doesn't even have the EL notch and wheel handbrake the rest of those had. While three others from the same order were rebuilt as SD40-2Ms for SP I think this is the last one still in service anywhere.

Bonsoir Jaw bonne année 2020 excellente vidéo et merci d'avance pour les images à venir .
Speaking of trains, Brian, I was at the fire department that I applied to join last year when I heard a train horn as I opened the passenger door on my friend's car. Sure enough, Lycoming Valley Railroad (my local short line railroad) came through running North Shore Railroad locomotive 2017 as the motive power for the train and a consist of 6 covered hoppers.

@@JawTooth Indeed. I tried to get a video, but ran out of room on my phone. The next time I hear or see a train coming, I'll make sure I have enough room on my phone for the full video.
Neat to see the position lights still standing. Fading history
Great video &angles. Keep up the good work. 👍🏻
Great video Great shot paticalarly the trestle bridge shot.
Enjoy watching your videos & seeing the trains in your part of the world. :)

Wow! D&H grain car with NO GRAFFITI on it. Must've been stored somewhere in tight security. Maybe we can get the youth of today to paint that SD-45 in N&W livery.
Good action. I like old rough industrial track and spurs.
Great video as always
Happy New Year to you and your family Brian! At 21:10 there is a spur that goes off to the right.... looks abandoned. Is there a customer there?I am definitely starting a "Go Fund Me" page for CCET so they can repaint their locomotives.... for instance, at 7:00 and 11:00 minutes into your video. I am speaking about CCET 2414. I like the color scheme red/white logo on a black background. But MAN! Let's see some new professional paint! I will not be voting for "Best Short line Railway" until I SEE SOME NEW PAINT!!!
Nice video Brian. Happy new year 🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈🎊🎉🎊🎉🎆🎆🎆
Great videoing "always is", the long shot going over the trestle was extra cool !!
Nice slow speed shots of those hoppers for modellers who want to do some custom painting and weathering. Thanks for sharing!!!
Good stuff as always jaw tooth. Happy new year from across the pond 👍👍
Amazing how much action there is on this road. Love the shot of the train on the viaduct. Reminds me of Moodna Viaduct in Salisbury Mills, NY. Keep ‘em coming, JT!
They must have forgot to knock off the brakes. Brakes are burning. Great catch.
Happy New Year. Thanks for being out in the cold so we can enjoy these videos. Stay warm and safe.

Great 2020 debut, Brian! I think that was the biggest collection of hoppers I have seen where every one was a different owner, I think. It was crazy to hear the ties and ballast creaking under the weight of those loaded cars. That trestle is so picturesque, a rail fan's dream. I wanted to ask, that siding at 21:00 in Sardinia, is it active?
Winchester Ag ships allot of beans overseas in containers as well. Amazing what a 20 ft container can hold.
Nice video for 2020 CCET 2807 is still running here in WA/OR

At about 19:40 you can see a crazy light dancing around, reflecting off the train lights I reckon. It eventually turns into a pair of crazy dancing lights! :D Awesome effect caught on camera by the mighty Jaw Tooth! :D

It’s great to see short line rail roads come back to America again. Unlike where I live the MKT is a bike trail now, and so is the rock island line in MO.

mike brabant I am totally 100% on board with you. It I seriously makes me mad that the Rock Island lone from Union to KC MO is now a biking trail. One of the longest railroad trestles west of the Mississippi is now part of a bike trail, it makes me sick. When the rails get torn up, so do jobs, and our country goes to waste. Sorry for the lengthy rant, but trust me Mike we need to bring working America back.
Neat to see how much the rails shine up after a small train. Thank you.
Great video son
Awesome footage 👍👍🚂🚂🇮🇳
Happy New year jawtooth...as always your live action rocks!!!
I thought 2414 was an mp15dc. Awesome video as always Brian
Nice little town up there.
Now i understand why there was an end cab switcher. No 6 axle unit would make it on that track. What a pain.
I was referring to the crossing at the beginning of the video. Other than that great video Jaw Tooth!😃
