First to Try Banff's Latest Attraction! e-Bikes to Johnston Canyon

We're no strangers to Banff's Johnston Canyon but we've never had it all to ourselves and we've never biked the Bow Valley Parkway on an eBike!
In this video, we thought we'd take advantage of the current Bow Valley Parkway vehicle traffic closure and jump on an e-bike for the first time, "peddling" from Banff to Johnston Canyon!
For those wanting to see Johnston Canyon, now is the time. Sure, you need to walk or bike the 6-km to get to the trailhead, but the lack of visitors makes it worth it!

Please note We were kidding when we mentioned "being lazy" and e-biking. First off, these bikes can be peddled just like a normal bike and the electric portion is only an assist. Second, this opens the possibility of biking to people who may or may not have medical conditions, such as arthritis, etc. We didn't mean to offend anyone :)

I loved doing ebike to johnston canyon, but going at my own pace, stoping to watch a video at one point all alone on the side of the road was the best

What a gorgeous area! Especially with a bit of snow and ice still around. The e-bikes really make things more accessible, eh? That's a route I wouldn't be able to do with a regular bike, so an e-bike tour would be awesome!

This was a private tour but I think it might depend on the group. It's not much further to the other falls, but probably adds 30-45 minutes total, so maube they do it because of timing

You can either park somewhere in Banff. They have some free parking lots around the town. But you can also park near the turnoff. So, if you leave Highway 1 to go Bow Valley, the gate is closed but people park right out front of it

Do you mean the Bow Valley Parkway? It's nothing to do with Banff. Parks Canada has shut it down and it may actually be closed permanently. Just too much traffic now that its causing issues. Lake Louise might do the same

For the tour, it's white mountain advenutres. But for ebike rentals, its Banff cycle and the other shop in town. Lots of free parking in Banff but you can also park off the turn off for Bow Valley Parkway right outside the gates

My question is how do people who drive cars get to Johnsons Canyon when Covid restrictions are relaxed. To make this portion of the road open to only hikers and bikers seems odd to say the least. Johnsons Canyon is one of the most worthwhile experiences in Bnaff National Park. Forcing the non bikers to hike from Castle Junction or just off # 1 seems a little weird to say the least. Plus parking at both ends is very limited. Perhaps parks has a plan but in asking guides at Castle Junction end I have yet to get an answer. Why not make the North bound lane a one way north for cars to Castle and make the other lane which was the southbound lane back to Banff a lane for bikes. (North and Southbound). To control the crowds at Johnsons Canyon create a reservation system. P.s. to bikers Jasper has far better roads to ride if variety is in the cards. But that's just one man's opinion. Enjoy the months ahead what ever you do and stay safe.
