@@jakeington9999No Joker switched the addresses. When he walked out of the interrogation chamber, Gordon asked him wich one he was going after and he screamed Rachel, then the GCPD rushed to what they thought to be Harvey’s location. There was no communication between Gordon and Batman that suggests they think Joker’s lying

That, or Joker mixed up the addresses due to extreme and repetitive head trauma. I think the answer lies in whether or not he gave each ship their own detonator.

Maybe my interpretation is wrong but.... Joker believes he's an agent of chaos, since Joker switch the address, Batman would never be able to save who he prioritized more. Batman chooses the face of justice, Harvey dies, people would smoke Batman for getting more people killed. Batman chooses the normal woman, Harvey will be pushed to go down "their" level. Joker switched it to break not just the established order but to also corrupt Batman. Joker manipulates by ruination of order, he doesn't care who Batman is or even who he mingles. Same as how Joker makes the Boat chooses who dies... either one who chooses it will be a lose to established order.... Thus making the people power more powerful when they chooses to die as one, not deciding to smoke the another. Joker didn't expect that, you can see it in his face, same way how he complements Batman how he was incorruptible despite how he broke him with Rachel. But Joker had an ace which is Harvey going down to their level as Two Face. Additional for my geeky shit, Heath improvises the "their" line, it was supposed to be "down to MY level" base on the script. Just a single word elevates the characters more.... Nolan wants to highlight Harvey being a hero living long enough to become a villain, but Heath embrace Jokers character very much he knows Joker doesn't view it that way, Heath knows Joker thinks Joker and Batman was "MAD" contrast to "FREAKS" people refer to them, Joker thinks Harvey become MAD as soon as he loses Rachel, birth of a Two Face

@@thefifth4669 That's my interpretation too. Whoever they chose to save, they'd end up saving the other one. My pet theory about the boats is that he lied to them too. If someone would have hit their trigger, it would have blown up their own boat... and the people on the other boat would have been labeled as murderers for it.

Heath Ledger was truly iconic in his role as the Joker. His improvisation and passion in the character never ceases to entertain me everytime I rewatch the film. Not to mention the combination of legendary Film Director Cristopher Nolan and Legendary film score Composer Hans Zimmer. As a duo they always craft something magical and epic.

It displays his love of playing games, just a nice character nuance. There are a lot of them in this movie - His complete willingness to die to prove Harvey and later Batman is corruptible is a nice character nuance. His clinically insane mind being adept at teaching himself to be tolerant to pain is another one. Life is a dangerous game to him, but he's happily adept at it and loves it - His plans could fail, but they don't more often than not due to him being a psychological and strategic genius. And with Harvey's face and subsequent insanity, well, he just got lucky. Lucky in a weird way too as I don't think the Joker is cruel enough to attempt that, to prove his point ("I'm not a monster, I'm just ahead of the curve"). That's another thing I love about the film - Harvey's transformation doesn't feel out of leftfield or too unlikely to occur, as the movie establishes that Harvey's mass prosecution is very lucky - The ups and down in luck makes everything feel natural, Gordon and Harvey got lucky and then suffered some mighty bad luck. Harvey's death, which is something Gordon and Batman wouldn't cause, also provides them with some mighty good luck in a weird way.

One cool thing about this movie, it ties the characters to the comics in a way that works for the film, but also references the comics. The Joker's stories display his love of playing games, but the overall narrative shows that his origins are completely unknown like in the comics, while the film's narrative shows his character's willingness to get completely lost in this beast and creature, the priorities of said creature being all that matters to his clinically insane mind. A man in court attempts to shoot Harvey in the face, which references the acid thrown in his face by a man in court in the comics - the origin of him becoming Two Face, but in the film's narrative, it displays the passion of his psyche via his "do or die" attitude, the passion that caused him to refuse the pain medication for the agonising pain he was in, while desiring to feel the pain of failing Rachel.

The Joker’s “tick” with his tongue was due to the prosthetics they used on his face. The prosthetics kept coming loose when he talked so the tongue motion helped keep them on and turned into a nice tick for him. Alfred and Rachel’s reaction to first seeing the Joker was real because they hadn’t seen him in makeup before that seen. When saving Harvey & Rachel the Joker purposefully gave the wrong address cause he knew who Batman would go for after the way he saved her at the apartment. My top three Joker’s in no real order is Cesar Romero, Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger. They really brought the character to life. Jared Leto’s Joker is good but more of a mob boss good and not a supervillain good. If you get a chance look up how they did Harvey’s Two-Face makeup. It’s amazing how they did it.

When you get to The Justice League, there are two versions. There are clear differences. The story is basically the same but, the portrayal of the characters are drastically different. I prefer the second movie by Zack Snyder (completing his original work) compared to the first which he started but had to leave due to a family emergency. The first one was changed and completed by Joss Whedon. The Zack Snyder Cut is longer but in my opinion, better, not only for the full story but the characters are portrayed more competent and confident in their abilities.

The little lip licking thing Ledger kept doing was to keep the scar prosthetics in place at the corner of his mouth. It also created a delightfully disturbing and creepy mannerism for the Joker to unsettle us even more :)

The whole thing with the Joker doing the whole "Hit me!" thing, laughing while Batman was beating the crap out of him, and laughing as he fell to his death, is because he knows Batman's one rule is he doesn't kill. So if he gets Batman to kill him, he's won. He is quite literally that insane. Everything he does, the suffering he spreads and the joy he takes in it, it's all to try to piss Batman off enough to kill him, and thus break his rule.

I've seen this movie numerous times... Heath and his Joker performance is just out of this world. Even if you know what's going to happen he still captures your attention 150%. It is god-like... He makes the film so damn good. Some men just want to see the world burn!

Fun fact, that video with Brian and The Joker was actually directed by Heath Ledger himself. Heath was a method actor, so stuff like that was how he got into the role. And next you should finish this trilogy with The Dark Knight Returns.

Did you know that At 12:20 in the video when joker i grabing ratchel, it wasnt part of the script, you can se her looking despretly at the producers and managers for help but they filmed along, and kept it in the movie, the same as in the joker walking away from the exploding hospital scenes, some of the false bombs didnt blow up so Heat Ledgers/jokers reaction isnt part of the script, but again it was so good that they kept it in the movie. Rip Heat Ledger, one of the best joker actors, in the world.

if you dind't know, the scene when joker crashes the party and sticks the blade in rachel's mouth, that was improv on heaths part. It wasn't in the script for him to do that as you can see rachel look over toward the director in that scene and the lip licking heath did as the joker he said he did because it helped him stay in character which did more for his performance as well

Glad you reacted to this one, this movie is fantastic and easily rewatchable even after all of these years! The only reason that I could never give this movie a perfect score is to do the Rachel replacement, Maggie Gyllenhaal, not that the character wasn't written well but I believe that it was just her portrayal of Rachel that I just couldn't get around. Other than that, I give this movie my highest possible rating without hitting a full 10 as every other part of the movie was nearly flawless.

Joker in this film isn’t insane, he has calculated everything so perfectly that he knows up until the end how things will turn out. Example when he’s telling Batman to hit him with the bike, he knows Batman’s rule won’t let him do it this is emphasized in the interrogation when he tells Batman there’s nothing he can do to threaten him, from that point on it becomes about pushing Batman as far as possible looking for his breaking point, he wants to prove that the most righteous person can be pushed over the edge. When Harvey insinuates that Rachel’s death was his plan, he responds saying “do I look like a guy with a plan”? He never actually denies it, he simply suggests that a crazy person like himself couldn’t have a plan. As an anarchist he wants people to think he’s out of his mind but he’s fully sane.
