Just imagine what a big twist Yoda was when this movie was new; nobody imagined an old Jedi master being a tiny, goofy alien sounding like a Muppet (because he's actually voiced by the actor who plays a bunch of the Muppets)

When Leia says “I love you” and Han says “I know”, the original script had Han replying “I love you too”. Harrison Ford approached Lucas before shooting the scene and pitched the idea of him saying “I know” because he felt it’s something his character would actually say. Lucas said “Ok” and they filmed both the original line, and Ford’s take. In editing, George and Kirshner agreed that the “I know” worked best, and went with that.

Fun fact Carrie Fisher in her book said the chemistry wasn't just on screen. She and Harrison Ford had a thing going off screen for a bit over the years of star wars filming

Vader was toying with Luke when he was fighting him. If you know the SW lore you know Vader actually did have strong loving paternal instincts (even if he did show them in very strange ways). Before Vader found out Luke was his son he felt completely alone. When he did find out his mindset dramatically changed. He became obsessed with convincing his son to join him, overthrow the Emperor, and rule by his side. If Vader wanted to kill Luke he would have done so easily

I was a teenager when Empire Strikes Back came out. I went to a midnight showing. The theater was packed. When the Star Wars logo appeared on screen the people in the theater cheered. It was a magical night.

Alright.... here we go. Just so you know, I have a good reputation of explaining Star Wars to "new fans" because I enjoy (or more accurately, live vicariously through) younger people who are seeing this franchise for the first time. A smidgeon of background, real fast: I was 13 in 1980 when this movie was released originally. I saw "A New Hope" in theaters before it was subtitled "A New Hope". Back then, it was just plain old "Star Wars". That said, I sat in theaters multiple times for each successive movie. Now, I abhor posting spoilers, so you won't get those out of me (except for posting the actual timeline). However, what I DO enjoy is explaining the movie you just watched, as well as how certain things connect to what you've already seen. If one of your questions would result in a spoiler for future content, I'll either not address it, or I'll simply say, "You have to keep watching".
