This movie was honestly a really nice surprise for fans. Most people were expecting the absolute worst after that disastrous first trailer. The second movie is even more of a love letter to the fans! And it was received pretty well! I personally can’t wait to see my favourite character in the third movie!

Let's be honest, they would have traumatized children with the first iteration of Sonic. The fact that they went back to change it gave me enough reason to give it a chance. So glad they made the change AND had a good movie!

Paramount did good here, they heard the fans, unlike some other studios *cough* Warner Bros *cough* Amber Heard *cough*, but Paramount+ did bad with Halo, maybe season 2 is better.

@@Jordaxio No, we didn't, because Sonic is supposed to be a cartoon he is a video game character but a cartoon as well, why trying to make realist? Those barely work, if we didn't "overreact" like you said do you think the movie would be good and sucessed and make 2 sequels? They started producion on the 3rd movie even before the debut of the 2nd, plus this movie have everything against him, when this movie came out a DC movie came out the same time, Harley Quinn Birds of prey, critics didn't help either some of them give the movie a bad score, the movie isn't prefect but not bad either and people that lie about the movie on Twitter, by saying the movie is racist, Sonic is homophobic and the movie have a lot of bad words, he didn't overreact we react the way a fan would, we want a good Sonic movie and make sure that our voice are heard and gladly they hear us and give us a good movie.

Jim Carrey played Dr. Robotnik so perfectly. Also, I love how Sonic kept calling Tom "Donut Lord" X'DDDD.

I desperately hope they can convince Jim to come back for 3, he is the perfect person for the role and the plot on 3 if it is anything like the games is going to be all in on Robotnik, and he owns that role. He said he was done after 2, but please one more, finish out this plot at least then we can go away from Eggman and explore other Sonic baddies or pass the title to Stone or something.

​@@Conorator Originally, it was different between regions: Eggman in Japan, while america went for "Ivo Robotnik". Sonic Adventure finally bridged the gap by making his canonical name Robotnik, while Eggman is a Sonic-given nickname that Eggman has subsequently embraced just to spite him (Quote from Sonic Frontiers: "It's Sonic who named me 'Eggman.' Except the joke's on him! I embraced the name! I made it my own! His mockery is now a name feared across the ages! I'm not going to adopt 'Baldy McNosehair,' though. My dignity has limits.")

Seeing a more "outside" fan of the series be shocked by the Robotnik-Eggman name switch was great. For context, when Sonic got moved over to the West, localization teams wanted to make the cute, fiesty character's world have an attitude and an edge, with simple things such as giving Sonic's spikes a mohawk style (which shows up in movie 2 for a bit!), changing atmosphere tracks to funkier tunes, and changing Eggman's name to Robotnik (and usually giving him big scary red eyes for some reason). When Sonic Adventure happened, a retcon was made that simply explained that Robotnik is his biological name, and Eggman is Sonic's mocking nickname, which became the de-facto explanation and what's used in the film.

Sonic Frontiers later expanded more on the name bit, having it be that Robotnik wanted to make the name something to be feared to mock Sonic right back, to take away the 'power' the insult had (but he's NOT going to try to do the same with 'Baldy Mc Nosehair', he has standards).

At the current moment, it seems Eggman is considered a nickname chosen by Robotnik himself. Otherwise, it would make little sense in Sonic Prime for Mr. Dr. Eggman to exist as a member of the Chaos Council, in a world which had no Sonic to begin with. The nickname given by Sonic is generally just Egghead.

What I love about the sonic and mario movies is that they directly represent sega and nintendo. The mario movie was completely safe and relied on nostalgia to carry it. Just like with every mario game. Sonic here tried something new. Did it always work? nah, but it was still entertaining in its own right. And just like the sonic games, the second movie is better.

The Sonic movies seem to be working pretty well so far. So I wouldn't say it didn't always work. I'd say it's working in the case of Sonic with everything except the original ugly Sonic design.

Lmao what? Nintendo are the opposite of playing it safe, be it with games or consoles. Was Super Mario Odyssey completely safe? Breath of the wild? The whole concept of the Switch itself? The Wii with motion controls when everyone was chasing power? Sonix movies are far better than the Mario one, but games wise Mario is far better and so is as Nintendo as a gaming company compared to Sega

I think sonic was real emotional with Tom leaving because in his head this guy was like a hero to him, but the first time he needed help from him he was ready to ditch him and now he finds out he's leaving the city for good. That along with being alone most his life, it's understandable why he'd be upset. Also, if memory serves, there's a deleted scene with Tom and Sonic talking (after Sonic plays with the dog), and just as they're getting ready to go, the sister gives one last dig at Tom. Tom, in retaliation, offers Sonic to drive.

If the movies are allowed to go on long enough, the scene where Sonic is disappointed in Tom could possibly be clever foreshadowing for something with another character.

Brother, guys in patron pls, tell him about the pre-release sonic trailer. He HAS to see the monstrosity it was before. I literally went to see this movie TWICE cus how grateful i was with them for ACTUALLY LISTENING TO THE FANS. Like, no big company does that. I loved the movie and am so grateful for the effort and soul put into this film.

Dr. Robotnik and Eggman are the same people, when the games came out in America they change his name form Eggman to Robotnik and the name kind of stick.

These movies were better than anyone expected them to be. 9:27 This is me with all the sports, boring to watch, used to like playing them. The fact that Sonic 3 was green lit 2 weeks before Sonic 2 came to theatres shows the studio's confidence in the Sonic movies.

The fact that after backlash Paramount took the time to redesign their Live action Sonic design shows that they really care about the character. I like the first movie better than the second one but that does not mean it's bad. It's great and such a coincidence this was published today because Paramount published the first image of the third movie along with a release date. I strongly recommend watching the second movie!

Some people like the first one more than the second one, but the second one is really good. Also it helps to set up some things that will be important in the third movie. I think the second movie was intended to be more of a world building story and also to establish the group dynamic between Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. I think the third movie is going to get back into developing the characters again. Whether they'll keep going after the third movie isn't 100 percent clear yet, but I will say this. Paramount has a reputation for keeping a movie series going as long as possible. And since there is a ludicrous amount of material they could adapt from the games and even non-game Sonic media, they could keep them going nearly indefinitely if they wanted to.

usually when actors are acting with a cg character they have a puppet or something as a stand in so they know where to look and whatnot

In the original English port games lore, which came with a comic to explain it, Doctor Robotnik was originally a good scientist named Doctor Kintobor. So ROBOTNIK is his original name. The Japanese never established Eggman as his official name until AFTER the American game and comic came out, so whether it was MEANT to be his original name or not, his original canon name is Doctor Robotnik.

The original name was Eggman, the Japanese game came out first, Sega of America thought Eggman was too silly, so they came up with Robotnik, In Adventure 1, Sega of America decided to make it so Eggman is an insult that Sonic came up with, and it wasn’t until Adventure 2 that a Japanese made Sonic game included the name Robotnik, but yeah, you are right that the canon real name is Ivo Robotnik, but Doctor Eggman was the character’s first and original name.

This and the second movie are from my pov the best videogame adaptations ever. I used to play the games when I was little and when they announced this one I was screaming from happiness.... Then first trailer, backlash and movie came out and its perfect. In bith movies, Jim Carrey nails it. What a casting. You couldn't get better Robotnik than him. Today they announced that 3rd movie will be in theatres on 20th December 2024 and Im extremely excited.

“This feels excessive” is a funny line when you know Eggman. The thing I like most about this movie is that I can buy this as an origin story of how Sonic and the Doctor met, and part of that is the characterization being really solid, more spot on that I’d ever seen in a video game adaptation up to that point.

Eggman is a pseudonym that was invented by Sonic himself, but in general his name is Robotnik

Sonic is somewhat different from the games, sonic in the movie is feels lonely and alone and wants to find friends and a place where he belongs, where as game sonic wants to live as free as the wind, coming and going not staying in one place
