The biomask filters out ambient heat as the creature's natural eyesight is very similar to a rattlesnake. Dutch covered up in mud hid him from his sight unknowingly blending in with what was being filtered out by the mask. Now one thing the filmmakers did not realize is inferred light does not penetrate glass. The predator's biomask should not be able to see what is on the other side of a window. Though I suspect he has a setting for such occasions.

The Predator AKA yautja when starting off there called unblooded and have to do a rite of passage before they're sent to planets. There put in a location with a captured queen alien that creates more xenomorphs..they got to kill them. After that there an adult and there class is called blooded. They get access to more weapons when they kill stronger foes. So the one in this movie is strong...he had a lot of weapons.

So while many Predator fans would love to see Anrold return to the series and this film would have been perfect. The rrason this didn't happen is because Predator 2 and Terminator 2 Judgement day were set to film at the same tine and Arnold had to choose between the two. So the part that was written for Arnold was changed and given to Danny Glover and the rest is history.

I don't understand why many people don't like this movie. I think it's the perfect sequel: - New setting (another jungle would've been repetitive) - New weapons and technology (though we already know a predator, we still have stuff to see) - More about the predator's culture and behaviour - A different hunting technique where he chose his game and then made pressure on him psychologically - A cross-over with another one of the most popular sci-fi horror series - Something to think about at the end (the gun) What else did we need?

The Dark Horse Predator sequel must have been the inspiration: Dutch Schaefer's brother was an NYPD Narc and at the start of the graphic novel, a street gang trying to 'make a deal' with a rival gang get one of their sentries 'plasma sniped'. After the two gangs get done shooting apart the apartment they're in, the leader notices the predator's clawed hand gripping the windowsill. He say, "hey, some joker thinks it's Halloween--let's give him some candy..." at which pointed Det Schaefer arrives and the window in the apartment explodes outward like it did with the 'El Scorpios' gang in the movie.

@@davidbennett1357 You can say the same thing about comic movies in general though. Look at what they gave us with Thor Ragnarok vs the actual Ragnarok storyline from the comics. They're not even remotely similar, a significant share of the Asgardian people survive and it isn't really the end of the world anyway, just Asgard the place as Odin says. Not to mention that it's arguable that Thor is even the main character in Ragnarok considering how much of the Hulk is in it - it's closer to Planet Hulk with a lazily cobbled together Ragnarok story wrapped around it which merely rehashes the familial betrayal theme of Thor 1. A real Ragnarok would have been badass and hinted at far greater powers at work in the MCU universe to match or even exceed Dormammu - but sadly they drastically nerfed Thor (and Hulk) so that the other characters still have something to do in Avengers.

I know this film catches a lot of criticism, but I've always thought it was a great sequel. Danny Glover might seem like an odd choice for the protagonist in a Predator film, but he beat the Predator in a one-on-one fight, without trickery, which is something Arnold couldn't pull off in the first film.

  • @brucechmiel7964

I like the setup but the finale did sink a bit. The idea of the first film is the best of the best. The modern day super heroes were nothing to the jungle hunter. Dutch could not use his weapons or his might both proved useless by the predator's technology and physicality. We seen Arnold face and overcome all kinds of threats with those. He needed to use his mind to defeat the superior enemy. Now Danny confuses me. For he outfought an enemy that an elite team of muscled up badasses couldn't touch. Though my justification here is that the City Hunter was still a Young Blood overconfident and eager. He underestimated his quarry till it was too late. can someone confirm this?

  • @johnnytightlips991

@@brucechmiel7964 City hunter is less experienced. Also Mike definitely didn't beat the city hunter in a fight. You can see how he is effortlessly tossed around. He did however land a well timed blow with its own extremely formidable weapon against it (due to the City hunters carelessness). Don't forget this predator outright TANKED 7 direct shotgun blasts to the body, lost its arm and still got up. Not to undersell Mike cos he's badass but in a direct hand to hand fight he would've been torn to shreds

@@brucechmiel7964 Well, the universe of Predators is expanded in a series of novels and comics which offer very interesting insights on the predators. About Jungle hunter vs City hunter, there is not a comparison in term of experience. It is known that they belong to different clans who hunt in different environments. Also, when the Jungle Hunter dies, his pod returns automatically to his mother base with a recorded log (through his helmet) of what happened. The city hunters become intrigued by humans and decide to go hunting (again, since at least one of the predators had a pirate gun). In Alien vs Predators things are more interesting: in the first movie they are 3 young and inexperienced hunters going through a rite of passage. In the second movie the predator (nicknamed Wolf) is an actual veteran belonging to a social class of "cleaners", basically very experienced hunters that step into action when there's some complicated situation to solve so in that movie (though it's shit) what we see is a predator at its top.

The predator in the first film was not a less experienced predator. He was more experienced, taking fewer weapons into battle and hunting alone. The predator in THIS film is the one undergoing a rite of passage, which is why his tribe is present to witness his performance. Also it's why he kills more prey (he'll take anyone with a weapon where as the original only took trophies from the most skilled warriors) and has more weapons. They are crutches which he will need to rely on until he gets more capable. Well, if he survived.

Actually, you're wrong. The younger ones have to prove themselves worthy of being able to use more weapons/gear. The Unblooded have to earn the right to use plasmacasters. The younger Blooded have less that they can work with, like the jungle hunter. This one would be more experienced/older than the jungle hunter. The more experience/honor one has, the less they have to work to prove themselves. Wolf, from AvPR, is a veteran, almost elder. He's got an walls of gear, and is not constrained by the conventional codes of honor, allowing him to take on jobs like being a "Cleaner", without being seen as dishonorable.

The weapon the predator gave is not a trophy collected from someone he killed. That pistol is from a man from 17th century that fought alongside that predator and died after getting wo7nded. He was a pirate that searched treassure and encountered the predator that started killing his crew of pirates, but his crew betrayed him and wanted to keep the treassure to themselves. The predator assisted him to kill his crew but in the battle raphael adolini was wounded fataly. When dying he gave the pistol to that predator as a sighn of respect. The predator buried him in mutual respect. He gave the pistol to harrigan because for predators killing one of their own being so inferior is considered very honorable and respectfull. Yautja aka the race of the predators live by a morale code. Yes they hunt for sport to perfect their skills (which will be shown in next 2010 movie). But they have code of honor to give someone that showed spirit of a warrior a fair chance of fight. Hence why predator gave Arnold a fair fight even though he could have killed him with ease. He gave Arnold a fair chance to fight because in his eyes Arnold showed great skills of a warrior that earned predators respect and he went toe to toe with him. Those types of warriors are considered as a great trophies when a predator is able to kill them. They fight with honor even if it could cost their lives.

They were supposed to implant the cattle humans had with alien face huggers so they could hunt the xenomorphs and leave the humans alone but something happens to the trainer and the new bloods go rogue hunting humans as well as aliens. 26:44 that was the most bad ass moment in the movie, and one of the most bad ass lines in the franchise-- my dude fights the Predator throughout the last 2 quarters of the film, across Los Angeles, going through tunnels, warehouses and roof tops-- then fights this thing in it’s own ship, and then-- only after killing it in what’s basically the Predator’s living room, he looks all of them dead in the face, without flinching and says “Okay, who’s next?”-- EFFIN Badass! ❤

I'm pretty sure the reason the other bullets had no effect was because they were shooting from handguns of both the revolver and automatic kind using 9mm or maybe 40 caliber rounds from around a train car distance. Danny Glover had what seemed to be some kind of exploding shotgun shells at almost point blank range. As in everything, size matters.

Min 27:12... the Predator gives him a gun with the inscription Raphael Adolini... He was a pirate and the captain of a pirate galleon. In 1718, whilst in search of lost treasure off of the Guinea Coast, Africa, Adolini and his crew encountered a Predator that slaughtered many of the crew. The reason Glover's character is given the pistol at the end of Predator 2 is because the screenwriters wanted to set a prequel and needed to include something that established that the Predator was on Earth for centuries.I would like to see that movie.

Just to throw in some lore, the clan leader in this that gave him the Pistol, He didn't kill that guy. Long story short Back then the guy who owned the gun (A pirate captain), his ship crew turned on him and him and the hunter fought together since it had intended of challenging him but saw that his crew was about to kill him and he gave the hunter his pistol saying "take it" out of respect while he was dying so hundreds of years later he does the same thing in reverse. Was a neat little tie in. If ya'll wanna look it up it's called "Predator: 1718" (even though the pistol itself says 1715)

Something I always loved about this film, whether intentional or not (although I believe it is) is the idea that the Predator this time around is a younger one than the first film. He's less skilled than the first one was so he needs way more weapons, jumps into massive crowds unlike the first one who picked people off one by one, and even his roar is higher pitched than the one in the first film. I'm sure there's a comic that goes into it more, but I like to think that the first one was a skilled hunter who just decided to hunt on earth, whereas this one was going through some sort of right of passage in the eyes of the Predators we see at the end.

A year late commenting on this, but this movie is loaded with some hilarious trivia. The gunman at the beginning who falls off the roof, El Scorpio, is the same guy who jumps into the cab of the truck that Arnold rolls into the Guerilla camp in Predator. At the opening shootout Danny Glover is looking through his trunk for a gun to use, he picks up a handgun and says it's too small. The gun is the same make and model of the handgun Arnold used in the first Terminator movie to kill the first two Connors. And the machete that Bill Paxton tried to attack the Predator with is the same design that Billy used to face off against the first Predator.

Predator 2 is my third favorite, losing to Predator and Predators. My favorite Predator weapon is the Gauntlet knives he wears on his right arm. 19:52 He was not bulletproof on the subway. When you are panicking, with the lights are flashing that fast, the ground is moving under you and your target looks like glass, your accuracy with a handgun is bad, miss a 7 foot tall target bad. (I know of a story where a cop fired 15 rounds at an armed criminal in a hotel hallway and out of these 15 rounds only 2 hit him.) Fun fact: at 26:44 Danny Glover is on his knees there to make him look smaller because they could not find that many 7 foot guys that were willing to get into those suits. Also Bill Paxton is the only actor that has died at the hands of the Predator, the Alien and the Terminator. R.I.P Bill Paxton 1955 - 2017 And Kevin Peter Hall 1955 - 1991 They actually wanted Arnold for the film but I think he was shooting Total Recall at the time, or was it Terminator 2 one of those.

ANOTHER fun fact, Predators actually don't see humans as lions or tigers in a hunt, though that is the closest proximation we have. They see us as equals, but hunt animals at the same time. Hunting is at the core of Yautja society, so a being being thought of as a prey animal doesn't necessarily indicate they're seen as lesser, only that they're worthy of hunting.
