First Time Watching Patch Adams (1998) *I was A MESS!!! 😂😭*

Ойын-сауық

I watched the 1998 film Patch Adams, starring Robin Williams, Monica Potter, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bob Gunton, Frances Lee McCain, Harold Gould, and so many others. This film took me on a rollercoaster ride through the rainbow of all the human emotions guys! I laughed, I cried, I was shocked, I was angry, I was happy, it was neverending. And I loved every minute of it! Nobody can mess me up as Robin Williams can.

As a Canadian watching this for the first time, the idea of a “free hospital” was ridiculous because I didn’t know of a hospital that wasn’t free. And the concept of having to pay for the 20+ surgeries that saved my life seemed foreign to me. It still doesn’t make sense.

It makes me so sad knowing both these incredible actors (Robin Williams) & ( Philip Seymore Hoffman) in this extraordinary master piece committed suicide. Both died in 2014) We lost two brilliant and extraordinary actors that became National Treasures. RIP Phillips Seymour Hoffman🌟 (July 23, 1967- February 2, 2014)🎬 RIP to the great King of ad-lib comedy ever. RIP Robin Williams 🎬😂🌟🌟 (July 21, 1951- August 11, 2014)

I had the luck to sit next to the real Dr Patch Adams on a flight once. From half blue/half silver hair, to the robe, mismatched socks, and dessert fork for an earing, he was certainly eccentric, but very friendly and kind.

Hi, Kat :) This is one of my favorite movies with Robin. I think Phil Hoffman did a great jib as the superb serious med student, but he did acknowledge that he needed help with Mrs. Kennedy (the noodle lady), and that's when the wall fell down between them. I was born with a brain condition called hydrocephalus; I've lived with it for 56 years, and it might kill me someday. I've been in and out of hospitals for all that time... But what do I do? I talk to the doctors, nurses and staff as if they're people... Because they are people. They take the time to help me, so I try to return the favor. I do the same with everyone I meet, or at least try to. I do it for a very simple reason... I like people. :)

This was my first introduction to Robin Williams as a serious actor. I expected something off-the-wall and goofy when I put this on, so this movie definitely surprised me quite a bit with some of the turns it took. However, I did like that it still managed to make me smile in the end. I think that, despite its faults, this movie attempts a balancing act between the serious tone of the unexpected and the lighthearted warmth of the comedy. Maybe it could have done it better at some points, but I think that attempt at balancing the two comes with the difficulty of the discussion of removed, purely medical practice versus improving quality of life and little moments in the face of death. Overall, no matter what you think of the movie itself, Robin Williams really was a treasure to watch. I always felt like I was laughing with him while also laughing at his comedy style.

If you want to watch Robin Williams as a serious actor playing a doctor, watch either Awakenings or Good Will Hunting (the latter of which won him an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor).

He thought it merely portrayed him as a clown. Even though a clown is one of those things that Patch Adams is, he is more than that. Kinda like how that VH1 Michael Jackson biopic merely portrayed the King of Pop as a manchild while he was also a musical genius and savvy businessman.

there has to be a conspiracy in the community. I can buy two people doing Indiana Jones on the same day I can buy two people doing Beetlejuice on the same day. But two people doing Patch Addams on the same day, that's a coordinated effort to land the same movie on the same date.

I personally like Awakenings better, but still a tear-jerker nevertheless. Fun Fact: The real Patch Adams appears in the scene where the medical school staff returns with the verdict. He sits right behind Robin Williams.

Robin Williams is, for me, the greatest actor of all time, greater even than Tom Hanks. I recommend, if you haven't seen them, "Bicentennial Man" & "Dead Poets Society"

This is a fantastic film which I have enjoyed many times. I honestly believe it's hard to go too far wrong with any of Robin Williams' works (although I could make an argument for the depressingly mediocre HOOK). He just shined with effortless sincerity in every role he played and I fear we won't see his like again soon. Williams' comedic work is well known but if you want to explore his darker side then ONE HOUR PHOTO will shock you while WHAT DREAMS MAY COME is truly heartbreaking.

This movie was supposed to be based on a true story but they were so far off the mark. First off, while the real Hunter Adams really did have a friend who died, it wasn't the same way they are telling it and the friend who died was really a man and the woman was a made up fictional character. Also the real Hunter Adams didn't like the movie as he was insulted by how the movie portrayed him. You should check out Nostalgia Critic's review of this movie for all the other details.
