Bird is my GOAT because I feel he is the best all around player, smartest and clutchest, founder of 50/40/90 club, 3 straight 3 point championships, 3 straight mvps and 4 straight 50/40/90 seasons and 1 steal away from a quadruple double in only the first 3 quarters and decided to not play the 4th quarter because they were so far ahead. He didn’t care about stats all he cared about was winning.

All around player, and what they did for the game makes the GOAT for me. Bird is the best all around player ever! Magic could pass but couldn’t shoot like Bird. Jordan could dunk but couldn’t pass like Bird. Wilt didn’t have a 3 pt line but could never do what Bird can. Bird is the GOAT!

Bird is the GOAT for the following reasons. He’s beaten every HOFer he ever played against. He won ROY, 3 straight MVPs, Coach of the year,Excutive of the year. He was the founder of the 50/40/90 club. 3 time 3 point shootout winner. Finally he was a 3 time Champion who cared about his teammates getting as much of buckets as he did.

After playing in the 1979 NCAA championship game (losing to Magic Johnson and Michigan) Bird was playing in a softball game broke two fingers on his right hand. He said that after that injury he couldn't hold a basketball the right way and had to relearn his jump shot. He had said that while he was a great shooter in College, he could never shoot that well in the NBA. Can you imagine what he could have been like!

GOAT! Best all around player to ever play the game. His basketball IQ was unmatched. He not only was the founder of the 50/40/90 club, he average that over a 4 season stretch! The thing they don’t show you during his retirement ceremony with Magic is, Magic had a Boston Celtics tee shirt in under his jacket!

Bird is my goat because of his ability to optimize the performance of every player on his team. He was the best team-player on top of having the skills of a superstar. His awareness of his teammates and how to make plays with them is on a higher level than anyone else. To me, this is the mark of not only a great athlete, but a mature human being who prioritizes the team above himself.

People don’t talk about this enough: the year before Bird joined the Celtics, the team had 29 wins. The year Bird joined and played his first season… 61 wins. Same players but just adding Bird. The next year? NBA Championship. WHO DOES THAT?!? Seriously. Who does that? And before people scoff: Kareem was in the league, Dr. J was in the league, Moses Malone was in the league… he wasn’t winning against powder puffs. Who does that? Larry Joe Friggin’ Bird. Legend.

When Larry Bird entered the league the three-point line was just introduced in the NBA. Don't forget for the majority of his career he was playing with a broken back. You are right. He was very athletic. A quick first step, had the best hand-eye coordination I've ever seen, and a third gear that he used a lot before his achilles and back problems. But he played sick too. He played with pneumonia, he was always busting a hand, blacking an eye, cheek, whatever. In Bird is the word video, you see him bust through 3 tables and into the crowd two or three times. And those were just the highlights chosen. He played that hard all the time. Hustle confidence and heart out of this world. He really loved the game and it showed.

I base my decision on what I saw with my own two eyes. Watching Bird play in the 80's was unbelievable, he dominated everyone he played. Including Michael Jordan. He sweep Jordan both times he played him in the playoffs. Bird is the smartest most clutch player to ever play PEROID! He is still to this day the MOST COMPLETE player to ever play on the nba. He had one of the purest shots. He rebounded like a center, his defense was unrated and his passing was the best of any big man to ever play! He was three steps ahead of everyone on the court. All that that stuff was great but the greatest attribute Bird had was his determination. He WILLED his teams to win. That's why Bird is my GOAT! And it's not even close.

If it’s on and off the court it HAS to be Bill Russell. Won 11 rings and was a a CORNERSTONE of the Civil Rights movement. Also First Black head coach in any sport, first Black head coach to win a championship. Many of his contemporaries said he averaged a triple double for his career but unfortunately they didn’t keep track of blocks back then. What if they had and his career stats were 15 pts, 22.45 rebounds and 10 blocks per game. On top of 11 championships in 13 years. Oh and if they had the finals MVP back then most people agree he would have won either 9 or 10. He also mentored people like Kobe, Kevin Garnett, Magic, and Isaiah Thomas. He doesn’t get enough credit. I got him Bird and Jordan in no order. They were all amazing

Growing up in Cincinnati Ohio (Southwest Ohio) in the 80's we had no pro team (still don't). I became a Celtics fan because of Larry Bird, and he's my favorite player ever. Now that we've established that, people sleep on Kareem, for me he's the GOAT. Jordan got cut in High School, LeBron never played in College, and Bird lost his National Title game, etc. Kareem won 3 H.S. State Championships, was a 2x Mr. Basketball USA, and had a 79-2 record in H.S. at Power Memorial, IN NEW YORK! at UCLA he was a 3x (consecutive) Nat'l champion, 3x (consecutive) Final Four MOP, and won 3x (consecutive) NCAA PoY awards. He was NBA RoY '70. He won 6x NBA Championships. ('71,'80,'82,'85,'87,'88). 6x NBA MVP, and 19x All-Star. He was, until LeBron, the scoring leader in the history of the NBA, with an unstoppable shot the "SkyHook"......I mean I could go on, but who else dominated the game and won at every level like Kareem?

They didn't care, they ALL showed up to thank Bird for what he gave us for 12 years. Game in, game out. Every night he left in all on the court. Even in the losses you never felt it was because he didn't try. He could have.. playoffs clinched.. nothing to play for late in the season.. but not Bird. He says himself.. he got paid to win games PERIOD.

Think about that left-handed game.. he's a righty.. he practiced shooting righty.. he was playing since being a child right handed.. so, to go out and play lefty he had to THINK about it.. every play, every shot he fought the natural instinct of shooting right-handed. It's hard enough to get a shot off in your natural way let alone to do it for 3 qtrs and score 27(?) He was just different. Also, never took a game off to rest, to heal up.. unless he was in a cast he was out there. Day in day out

The league never saw Bird 100% healthy. He entered the league with 2 mangled fingers on his shooting hand from a summer league softball injury. He blew out his se of discs shoveling gravel for his mom's new driveway. Then his feet.... That being said, the number 1 cause of a shortened career was the tragic death of Lenny Bias. Had Bias lived Bird would've played to the late 90s and there would be no Bad Boy Pistons, No Rockets, and MJ might only have 4 rings. Bird, Reggie Lewis, Bias, The Chief and DJ, then Dee Brown and McHale until 93.

Goat is hard bc you would have to see all of them actually play. Each era was different and if you didn't see a player you only get a glimpse into them from film. Like this documentary about bird.. as comprehensive as it is.. it doesn't get even close to how great Bird was. I watched him every night and every night he SHOWED you how great he was.. there was ALWAYS something he did that blew your mind. People say MJ.. look at it this way.. from MJs view: they played head-to-head in the playoffs 2 times. MJ came out of those 2 series 0 - 2! He scored 63pts in one game and lost.. he actually was SWEPT in BOTH series. He never won a playoff game against Bird. Do you think he forgets that when goat talk comes up. I'm the greatest but I never beat this guy?? Anyways, new to your channel.. thanks for the video!!

In fairness, I never heard MJ call himself the greatest unlike other players. 🙄 I watched Mike since he first stepped foot in Chapel Hill from Wilmington. Like you, I feel lucky to have seen so many great players, In my case since the mid-50s. My blood runs Carolina blue as I grew up on Tobacco Road. But Larry was my favorite player in the NBA.

@@NC-Mama-Bear you're absolutely right.. I was just using it to make my biased point. No great would disrespect other players by calling themselves great. Well, I know of only one player that proclaimed himself-the greatest!'

Oh.. I would put Bird on my starting 5 all-time! Bird made everyone around him better.. in college he took a no name team undefeated to the National Championship. He made Kevin McHale & Robert Parrish Hall of Famers.. he hustled EVERY night.. he passed the ball around.. he did what needed to be done to win. Famed coach Pat Riley said it best "he would take MJ if the game was on the line.. he would take Bird if his life was!" (or something to that effect) Bird beat every contemporary of his era.. with Magic being the only one to beat him more than he lost. (Magic was 2-1 in the Finals against Bird) EVERYONE else Bird had a winning record against in playoffs. Another good video: Indiana Power (?) Bird, Reggie Miller & Isaiah Thomas chat.. pretty good

Hey I don't think you heard about his winning percentage because you were speaking about the crowd rushing onto the court. Dude he has the second highest winning percentage rate of anyone in NBA history. Only to Magic by like 10 games and Magic's teammates were way better than Larry's teammates. Larry's incredible. 🐐🐐🐐🐐

He has a career 3 turnovers per game, Magic Johnson per game was 4, LeBron James is 3.5 and John Stockton was (wow!) 2.8. That number is fairly consistent his 13 years. Yeah, he did run Marathons, even during the season. The 60 point game? He ran a marathon with scott Wedman (his back up on the bench) just before flying down to New Orleans to play the Hawks. After getting off the plane, both were very stiff and could not get loose. But Larry just played and loosing up during the game. And put on a shooting clinic with 60 points! EDIT: I looked up some more players for turnovers per game Isiah Thomas was nearly 4 per game! Kobe was 3 per game. Steve nash was 3 per game. MJ was 2.7 Tim Duncan was 2.4 Some of it is noise for the position but some is IQ.

I didn't read other comments first on purpose. My criteria for the 🐐 conversation: -All-round skills -Individual accolades -Court awareness (🏀IQ) -Finals play and championships -The eye test Not necessarily in that order... My starting five would be Jordan, Bird, Magic, Kareem, and Duncan. 🐐s? Jordan 1a, Bird 1b

Steph Curry’s dad intentionally elbowed Larry in the jaw so hard he got a hole in his face and had to get surgery to pop it back out. But, he finished the game first! The Celtics won. It was a very physical game.

Please check out Bird is the word, 15 minutes of Larry Legend. Bird is my choice because I grew up watching him, and he did so much more than these videos show. The 86 celtic making the case is outstanding as well. Then Magic, Jordan, DJ, Dominique, Kareem, But I loved SO many players during those years.

There is and never will be a single "GOAT." But there are many greats from every era. With rule changes, medical advancements, and many other factors, it's ridiculous to try and compare stars today or the future to greats from before them.

it's not a pump fake. If you don't contest the shot, hw will take it. if you do, he will leave you behind. This is what made him impossible to guard. He had great stamina and endurance. he didn't have the speed or the hops thaat most NBA payers have, but athleticism wasn't his thing. "Larry can't run or jump cause that was God's way of making things fair." - Sir Charles Barkley. The actual story goes, they night before he said he was going to play at least the 1st 3 quarters left handed. He did just that and had 22 with his left had after 3 quarters. The game was close, so he had to go back to his right hand for the 4th Q and OT where he got 47 total and the win of course.

I have to put MJ at the top followed by LJ, then Byrd and Kareem. A double double was a bad game for Byrd. If today's players would have taken a foul from the 80s and early 90s, not only would they have been out for a month from injury, but they would need another month of therapy.

Larry wasn't that athletic. He wasn't that fast. Be had bad back for half of his career. He had busted fingers for his entire career. He grew up without a 3 point line. To be up there with among the best despite all those disadvantages is GOAT worthy.
