Bruce was actually faster than what you see. It is well known that he was constantly told to slow down because he was too fast for the cameras to pick up.

It wasn't not only for the cameras, it was for the audience's sake. Bruce would trap an opponent and punch so quickly that viewers had no idea what had happened. Even on video, where you can slow the action down, it's often difficult to follow the feints followed by an instantaneous strike,. I can't imagine what it would have been like to have actually tried to fight him. @@johnwjr7

​@johnwjr7 back in the late 60s, early 70s the normal framerate was 24 frames pr second, and if you were fast enough your movement couldn't be caught of film. Today we use digital cameras that can catch movement to a 1/1000th of a second so it is practically impossible for a human to move fast enough to avoid being caught on camera

I was about to coment exactly that!!!

Jackie Chan was actually a stuntman/henchman in this movie. He tells a story about how when shooting a scene with Bruce, Bruce accidentally really hit him in the face with a wooden bow staff. Bruce finished the take like nothing happened but as soon as the director yelled "Cut" he went to Jackie and apologized profusely for hitting him. Jackie over sold the pain just to get some extra sympathy and attention from Bruce. For the rest of the shoot, every time they saw each other Bruce would ask Jackie if was okay. Jackie would rub his face where he'd been hit and then give Bruce a 👍to let him know he was fine.

Saw this in theaters yesterday(8/13/23)! There was about 60 people, which is pretty good for a 50 year old film. I have this movie on VHS, DVD and Blu-Ray, but I still had to see it on the big screen at least once. Bruce Lee was such an inspiration to me as I was growing up, and it's been amazing to see how he has continued to inspire millions of people some 50 years after he died. Really glad you enjoyed the film!

I seen this when it first came out I was 14.The theater was packed every seat sold.

Bruce's sparring opponent at the very beginning became a legend in his own right: Sammo Hung Kam-Bo. Despite his girth his martial arts ability was absolutely incredible, while his choreography could make anyone look really powerful on-screen. In the late 1990s he became known for a TV series called _Martial Law,_ in which he played the lead role, but his earlier film work is where his true genius really shines.

@@davida7153 My understanding is that he wasn't always overweight. After several years at Yu Jim-Yuen's Chinese Drama Academy he just piled on the pounds after breaking his ankle during a mislanding on a simple gymnastic manoeuvre, putting him out of action for several weeks.

I subbed as soon as I saw what you were reacting to. Hard to put into words how amazing Bruce Lee was. The irony is they did not speed him up. They asked Bruce to slow down because his movement was too quick for the camera! Changed martial arts and action cinema forever at a time where prejudice was still rife in Hollywood and this was his only Hollywood film (and the last he ever completed) this year marks 50 years since he left us. Jim Kelly was the 1st black Martial artist film star. R.I.P. to him too. Jackie Chan be getting his neck broke too! Love the fact in the opening scene you credited the music. All the yells and screams as he does for a dubbed in he never did this in the movie for some reason they added up in there just because he normally doesn't do that when he fights and also the data slow down the camera because it's too fast

My favourite other Bruce Lee-starring film besides this is _The Way of the Dragon_ (1972). It was the first Hong Kong film to be shot in Europe (in this instance, Rome, Italy - although interiors and certain other bits were shot in the Golden Harvest studios back in Hong Kong), and was the first - and only - film that Bruce directed. This is the film that has the much-talked-about fight between Bruce Lee and then-karate champion Chuck Norris. This fight is considered to be amongst the greatest movie fights ever.

This was like Star Wars for martial arts. We had never seen ANYTHING like this before. Every kid wanted to be like Bruce Lee.

A lot of people wrongly believe Bloodsport was the first MMA film; it was actually Enter the Dragon. EtD 🐉 inspired Bloodsport, the Karate Kid 🥋 AND Mortal Kombat.

It's really 70's but it's so awesome. Side characters get to shine and the script is simple and solid and Lalo Schfirin music is great.

Another Bruce Lee film to react to would be Return of the Dragon. The story is IMO a bit thin, but the fight scenes are fantastic. To this day, the ultimate showdown between Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris may still be the best movie fight ever. Warning: it is dubbed so if that bugs you....

The real title for that one is Way Of The Dragon. They release the film after enter the dragon explode in american theaters...yet they were told he died and that was the last movie from him. But the americans were still hungry for bruce lee. They released the previous movie and change the title to "return". A title that didnt have any connection with the movie plot. I really like the second movie. Fist Of Fury. Its a very low budget production. But the fight scenes are awesome. The fight scene in fist of fury would topped enter the ragon if it have the same budget for sure. But the best boss fight will always be bruce vs chuck. Hands down

It's The Way of The Dragon Not the Return of the dragon

In my humble opinion Bruce Lee was and still is the greatest martial artist to ever live.

One of the greatest martial arts films ever made was "The Prodigal Son" (1981), starring Sammo Hung, Biao Yuen, and Ching-Ying Lam. It's a Wing Chun based movie, and the fight choreography is off the meter, and to perfection. And the story is really good too.

No that was not Cung Lee it was martial arts and movies legend, Bolo Yeng. The person who fought against Bruce Lee during opening of this film is Sammo Hung another absolute legendary person, filmmaker, stuntman, martial artist, actor, stunt coordinator, stunt/fights choreographer. He did work a lot with Jackie Chan during 70s and 80s and early 90s, they did a lot of films together, some of them Sammo Hung directed, and choreographed fights, stunts and action. The best films Sammo and Jackie did together were Wheels on Meals, Dragons Forever, My Lucky Stars, Project A, Heart of the Dragon. I highly recommend you to watch any of them, if you like pirates theme, try Project A with Jackie and Sammo, you wont be disappointed (all what you will see there was for real, no cgi, real stunts and almost full contact fights) 😎

You are correct...Yang Tze ( Bolo) at the time had a 2nd degree black or nidan in Shotokan Karate. He's a very accomplished martial artist.

GAME OF DEATH was the only other Bruce Lee movie completed after Enter the Dragon, but Bruce Lee is not in that entire movie. He shot a few fight scenes in it before doing Enter the Dragon, but died before he could finish working on Game of Death.

Bruce Lee could punch in 0.3 of a second. He was FAST! By the time a martial artist had begun to start a kick or a punch, Bruce had already blocked it. Sammo Hung, the fat guy in the start sequence tournament, was trained at the Hong Kong Opera along with Jackie Chan, who also appeared in Enter the Dragon. Do not let Sammo's bodily appearance fool you. Sammo was very fast and flexible too, and Bruce Lee was his hero. Sammo and Jackie are great guys, just like Bruce.

If you haven't seen them yet: The Raid: Redemption, The Raid 2 and the IP Man. Three incredible martial arts movies. Then anything by Jackie Chan and Jet Li and your set for martial arts movies for a long time.

There were several instances, where the camera had to be slowed down, due to the ridiculously fast speed of Bruce! Such as the television series, THE GREEN HORNET.

What I heard about Bruce Lee's speed is that he would do his moves so fast, the directors would often tell him to slow it down if he can, so that their cameras could catch a clear image instead of a blur. That's how fast he is in real life.

The chubby guy fighting Bruce at the beginning, his name is Sammo Hung, another OG in Martial Arts genre. He was the next best thing after Bruce Lee and unique becaue his weight never stopped him. You should watch some of his movies Millionaire Express AKA Shanghai Express, Enter The Fat Dragon, The Magnificent Butcher, Eastern Condors, My Lucky Stars 1-3, Heart Of A Dragon (very emotional movie), Martial Law series, The Bodyguard, Knockabout, Wheels On Meals, Dragons Forever.

The style and the gloves in the opening scene are called Kenpo. Film cameras, unable to catch some of the punches and kicks, had to be shown in slow motion, and Bruce was asked to slow down.

You mentioned Bruce wearing blue, and interestingly enough when ninja were operating at night, they'd wear darker blue to blend better with the foliage under a moonlit sky. Also, Bruce Lee came up with his own system. He called it Jeet Kune Do. His concept was to curate a system around the practitioner and not to curate a practitioner around the system. His philosophy was that every person is different, and therefore every individual is better suited to certain syles over others. Furthermore he emphasized in learning and practicing what best works for the individual. All of it was rather ahead of his time. Oh, and for his own personal style, he took up a few styles. His base was Wing Chun, with some boxing, a little Judo, and he took a few kicking techniques from Tae Kwon Do/Tang Soo Do, and I guess it depends on who you ask which. And even Dan Inosanto(Bruce's closest student) said that they started practicing some more grappling techniques towards the end of Bruce's life. He also said that Bruce was constantly wanting to evolve the system. He said Bruce told him that Jeet Kune Do will look different every few years.

Another fun fact. They actually slowed down the film, because Bruce Lee was too fast! At normal speed the movements looked strange, because he was just that fast!

One of my favorite martial arts movies. Sadly, Bruce Lee died before this movie premiered, but the legacy he left behind will live forever. this is also one of the only times where you can hear his accent. Most of the others, he's overdubbed by someone who doesn't have one.

There are other good Bruce Lee movies but this is his best one.

Back in the day, directors of Bruce's movies, informed Bruce to slow down his actions because he so fast. Because of camera equipment were not advanced enough like they are now. Camera filmed 24 frames per second back then as current technology are fast frame per second.

African American actor was Jim Kelly (1946-2013), and he was martial artist plus an athlete. He starred in 70's genre of movies called "Blaxploitation" meaning exploitation of African Americans, but it influenced many iconic African American filmmakers such as Spike Lee and John Singleton.

The Shaolin are trained from childhood to adult hood. The torture these students endure is beyond belief! Look it up. They are trained to be invincible. No pain is real to them for they have endured far worse in training. A punch or kick to the body is nothing to them. They are literally numb to pain. Their nerves are all dead. Bolo Yeung Began his Kung Fu training at 10 years old. He held the Mr. Hong Kong bodybuilding title for 10 years. Bolo met Bruce Lee when they were filming, of all things, a Winston cigarette commercial. Winston had become a sponsor for the martial arts event.

This was the 4th and final movie Bruce Lee completed and the only movie where he actually spoke English in his own voice. Sammo Hung was guy Bruce Lee sparred against in the opening scene. That was a stunt double who did the flip and handspring not Bruce.

I think his hand speed was 500ths of a second, which means he can kill someone in half a second from 3 feet away. His kicks were just as fast. He's pretty much as close to an in real life super human as you can get.

A very young Jackie chan was one of the extras on the island. The guy Bruce was fighting in the beginning (sammo hung) at the monastery had an American TV show in the 90s that ran for 2 seasons I think - called Martial Law. It was quite good.

Thankfully, Lee was able to actually sneak in a few movies at the last 1.5 year of his life. Prior to that...there are zero movies, he was simply a veteran at live combat. In live situations he had fought; Black Belts, Pro Fighters, Ex military, Champions, 3rd degree Masters, Rival Martial Artists, and opponents that outweighed him by 100 pounds. His battle experience started as a young boy and lead all through out his teens + adulthood. The few movies he DID make were only at the last 1.5 years of his life which was a brief opportunity for him to report his entire life experiences and give insight into live combat. He only made 3 little movies plus One Hollywood film, a very small body of films but we're lucky he at least made them for a year and a half just before he died to show us his insights on his life of hard combat. Sports Illustrated has ranked Bruce Lee in the Top 50 Greatest Athletes of All Time. as he was able to raise unbelievable weights that pro weight lifters could not.

Bruce Lee was the OG Martial Arts Star, at least as far as the West is concerned. It was just a Hong Kong thing before then. Bruce was VERY special. He's arguably the best of all time, and he died in 1973. He started with the same Wing Chun that most other movie martial artists in Hong Kong. It's the Chinese self defence martial art. It was developed by a woman, to defend against bigger men. Bruce was able somehow to blend two forms of Wing Chun. Usually you'd have to compromise, speed over strength, or strength over speed. He was able to be BOTH at once. He knew what he wanted to do with his life, from an early age, and was VERY determined to constantly improve. He only started with Wing Chun. He added more and more and more, to constantly refine and improve, until he had his own formless Jeet Kun Do. This is what you're seeing in this movie. To answer your question, yes, he most definitely was that fast. He had to slow down, so the cameras could properly capture him. If you want a couple of suggestions for double features (see how I got four movies in there?) The Raid, and The Raid 2 from Indonesia by Gareth Edwards has OUTSTANDING martial arts from all involved. The story is amazing too. Be prepared though, because it's very brutal. Another curious double feature is Fist Of Fury, from 1971, starring Bruce Lee, followed by The Legend Of The Fist: Return Of Chen Zhen, from 2010, starring Donnie Yen. Chen Zhen is the character Bruce Lee plays in the first movie. It's Donnie Yen playing as Bruce Lee. The historical backdrop is the Japanese occupation of China. The music is PHENOMENAL, and it turns into a Marvel Arts movie. An odd thing I picked up with this movie, is that Han seems to prefer the white Karate Gi as the uniform of his martial arts army. They're also practicing what looks like Karate to me. All of that is Japanese. Han, and Lee are members of the Shaolin Temple. The Shaolin are CHINESE, not Japanese. Lee's outfit is a traditional Chinese Gi. Han really should have been written as being from some OTHER school, instead of the Shaolin.

this is the godfather of modern Martial arts movies, It has influenced everything from video games to movies to past and current martial arts stars, there is no chuck norris, there is not JCVD, there is no Jackie Chan, I can go on. speaking of Jackie Chan, was a stuntman in this movie and was the guard that got his neck broken in the underground fight with the guards. this is a masterpiece that I still watch today from time to time.

His waaa sound effect is real and he really used it in real life and they used it for decades after for mortal Kombat with lu kang and Asian video games

In a lot of Bruce Lee film performances the film had to be slowed down so they could see his moves especially when filming his Green Hornet 1960s American TV show ✌️❤️

Bolo didn't die too easily. Roper kicked him in the right shoulder and broke it, then finished him off with a kick to the face.

Sadly Bruce did not live to see his movie become a big hit. This is more than just a kung fu movie with no plot. It has a back story. The fighting scenes were very realistic and when Bruce kicked O'Hara he flew backwards and the stunt men got injured trying to catch him. This is a good Saturday afternoon movie.

"Boards don't hit back." Fun Fact: An extra challenged Bruce Lee to a fight to see if he really was that good. Lee won the fight and sent the extra back to work. That's My Jackie Fact: Jackie Chan Appears twice in the film. Towards the end of the movie in the big cave fight scene. Lee grabs his hair for a while before breaking his neck. He is also one of the stuntmen that Lee hits when he wields two sticks. Bruce Lee actually struck Jackie Chan in the face with one of his fighting sticks. He immediately apologized and insisted that Chan could work on all of his movies after that. Unfortunately, Lee died before he could keep his promise. Bad Lip Reading Fact: The movie was filmed without sound. All of the dialogue and effects were dubbed in during post-production. The only possible anomaly however was the scene at the beginning where Braithwaite (Geoffrey Weeks) briefs Lee (Bruce Lee) on the mission to pursue the crime lord named Han (Kien Shih) and requests him to become an undercover agent in the international intelligence organization. Here, the voices and the sound effects of the aforementioned scene were captured on-set as opposed to being dubbed in post-production. However despite the dubbing, this is one of only two English-language movies in which Bruce Lee speaks with his natural voice. The other is Marlowe (1969).
