First Time Watching - Airplane 2 (1982) (The writing is literally HILARIOUSLY AMAZING !!!)

Ойын-сауық

This one is just as funny as the first in my book. Join me in watching Airplane 2 (1982) as I marvel at the writing, quite literally laugh so much that I end up coughing and fail to ever keep a straight face; as I experience Shatner acting the fool, razorblade jetlag incidents and much more.

What makes this even funnier for those who are old enough is all the big name actors who were in this. Seeing serious actors in these roles makes the roles even funnier.

@@NovelReactions there first was a mini series "Police Squad _(in color)"_ from 1982 with 6x30 minutes, which had jokes just like Airplane! and the Naked Gun movies (1988, 1991, 1994) were its continuation. Leslie Nielsen surely was (like all the other actors in Airplane!) a serious actor for 25 years, but after that success he did all these funny/silly movies for another 30 years and many people don't know his old career (eg the scifi movie Forbidden Planet (1956) which would be another recommendation!). And don't call him Shirley.

A couple of points of interest: The bomb guy's briefcase has stickers from Hiroshima, Nagasaki , Pearl Harbor and Dresden - places that are famous for bombings. The pilot is played by Peter Graves who starred in the "Mission Impossible" TV series (which was made long before the movies). That's the joke when the "Mission Impossible" theme is played when the computer gasses him. The computer is a parody of the computer HAL 9000 from "2001: a Space Odyssey". "What are you doing, Dave?" is one of its famous lines.

Underrated, but they do basicly repeat 70% of the jokes from the original. Unfortunately the writers/producers of the original weren't involved. They went on to do Top Secret! Val Kilmer's first movie. If you liked Shatner here, check out Loaded Weapon 1, the most underappreciated spoof with a hell of a cast.

This wasnt made by the Zucker / Abrahms team that made the previous film or the Naked Gun / Hot Shots series (as well as The Kentucky Fried Movie). In fact they disowned it... as the studio decided to make it without them. At the time they were making the TV show that birthed the Naked Gun series, POLICE SQUAD! (Exclaimation point is in the title) with Leslie Neilsen.. which is why hes not in this one. That show is amazing, but too much for tv.. too many jokes.. the audience wasnt ready and the execs didnt get it.. it was cancelled after 6 episodes, but becamee a big hit for video rental.. so a few years later, they made a movie sequel to the series.

I don't think there's any beating the first Airplane, but this movie does do an admirable job of continuing the line of humor, and I think it hits much more than misses. I think my favorite bits when I was a kid were the physical humor bits like the little girl running up to her grandmother and pushing the other old lady out of the way and the "Striker" vs. "Strike her" bit. And watching it now, I'm amazed at the brazen jokes about the priest.

Because I saw this movie first and in theaters, I will always prefer it to the first. Of course, its recycles a lot of gags from the first and it got its own stupidity. I was like 5 o6 years old and I still remember laughing my ass off when he passed the guy singing The Love Boat.

These older comedies setup their jokes overt and subtle in such a manner that they flow smoothly into the setting they're in like they're a part of it no matter how absurd. Kudos to the writers for writing such wonderful laughs-inducing scenes which I guess isn't easy.

On Star Trek every time they go through a door ot makes that swish sound. So in thus film every time they want to go through the door the person makes the swish sound. Also that prop that with the red fluorescent lights would later make severel appearances on Star Trek TNG. In engine rooms and alien labs. Every time I watch that show I always look for it.

Good reaction, and well done for doing this one! So few reactors watch this sequel and that's a shame as I like this almost as much (although of course it recycles a lot of the original's gags). It helps to have seen some sci-fi classics like 2001:A Space Odyssey, to get some of the references though, like the computer with attitude and the two crewmen floating in space while Striker listens to his headphones...

i always call them "the great ZAZ" :-) and i include this movie since they created the style as a base that was also used for this movie, just like "Charade" is _the best Hitchcock movie that was not made by Hitchcock_ :-) as i read in some other comment (thus only secondhand knowledge), they had a cameo in the first movie as ground staff who made the plane crash through the window, and the colorful makeup lady might have been their mother. and yes, the bus could be seen as an early prequel that is not yet of this quality, but already quite stupidly funny too, and it would fit in the series which therefore all had almost identical titles in germany "Die unglaubliche Reise in einem verrückten Bus/Flugzeug/Raumschiff" (The Incredible Journey in a Crazy Bus/Airplane/Spaceship)
