Tip for crossing street in Vietnam: Many tourist foreigners scared of traffic in VN . Don’t worry about it! The rule to win this fear is keep routin slowly walking when you across the streams of motobike! -motobykers knows how to avoid you themself in chaos-order! remmember do not run and stop suddently , accident immidiatly ! Don’t be affraid off and do it if you want to be safety in the crazy- rule traffic in Vietnam.

The banh ran you are having in Vietnam is similar to torta frita, is Argentina,Uruguay, Paraguay and parts of Chile, in Colombia also the Thai have a similar thing, fantastic with coffee on a cold and rainy day.

I've not seen that cheese pull pancake you guys ate before. Interesting. Especially the flavor combos they used. The banh ran you guys ate (typically called banh cam in the south) are usually filled with crushed mung beans. A lot of desserts or sweet snacks use mung beans in them. I was surprised the ones with sesame seeds on the outside were empty as those are the most popular ones and usually filled with mung beans. Vietnamese people love to eat them even in the US.

We really love the food here. So unique

Depending on geographic location. North Vietnam pho broth is usually more neutral, and broth is a lot more clearer and South Vietnam broth is a little more sweeter. South Vietnam uses more herbs and bean sprout on the side and the North is the opposite. Condiments is basically the same. I think you notice it after eating a few times in Vietnam, both the north vs the south

Have only had Vietnamese food at a Vietnamese resteraunt in a suburb of Cleveland that I used to live in. If you like your food hot and spicy with lots of onions and garlic then Vietnamese will be much to your liking. I loved it. Keep on sampling and I am sure that you find other delicious delights awaiting you. For me it's been about 30 years since I have eaten any Vietnamese cuisine. Good to watch you two enjoying the food as I thought that it would be much to your liking.

Hanoi looked around and saw chaotic traffic. If you catch the rhythm of life there, you will find that life is fun and light! In Hanoi, you have to live naturally...traffic is the same, just calmly cross the street, drivers will avoid you...if you panic, it will cause motorcyclists to lose initiative, easily causing accidents! have fun!

You guys did a good job of finding your own food, but many foreigners don't eat the food right as they are unfamiliar with all the condiments and sauces that come with Vietnamese food. I highly recommend a food tour or two as the guides will teach you what to eat, how to eat it properly, and all kinds of culinary and cultural stuff. Regarding that pho, you should have added the garlic slices into your pho, not just the vinegar it was soaked in. Just use the chili to flavor the broth, you don't have to eat it, especially if it's hot or just use the hot sauce. You should squeeze some lime in your pho (especially if you didn't pour in a bunch of the vinegar). If it needs more salty umami, then you can add in a splish of fish sauce (typically not needed, though).

The soul of pho is the broth: it is stewed from many bones and herbs. With stewing time that you probably can't believe. Its nutritional value is very good. We only have a bowl of pho for breakfast and can do heavy labor until the end. p/s in Vietnam, if you two order pho, you should tell them to add more pho noodles. Because your physical condition is different from ours. It's a free request

Green beans is the literal translation of the word from Vietnamese to English, but green beans means something else in English. The word you're looking for is mung beans. The mung beans are crushed and usually have sugar added as a filling for many desserts. Beansprouts come from mung beans.

@@phuongvo9167 A lot of tour guides do the same without knowing the nuance from Vietnamese to English. If we hear green beans in English, we automatically think of the vegetable (?) that grows on a vine. The kind you would use to stir-fry with beef (the kind Americans would make green bean casserole for Thanksgiving). So to imagine it as a filling for a sweet snack or dessert is unappealing.

Pho has different processing methods and flavors. In Vietnam, there are names to distinguish them: Pho Bac (in the North), Pho Hue (in the Central region) and Pho Saigon (in the South). Normally, northern pho is characterized by salty taste while southern pho is sweet and full of vegetables. Pho in the South is smaller than in the North.i hope you come Hồ Chí Minh city,southern,VietNam

tip for eatting “ the Phở”: you could get : - some soup of garlic- vinegar - chilly soup or chilly ( but do not eatting slice of chilly, it smell in your phở -,that enough) - put some lemon if you don’t like soup of garlic-vinegar but I guess you coud try soup of garlic-vinegar! - use chop-stick and spoon when eating something relate to Vietnamese food ! - put some fresh vegetables that shop served! 😊

The price of Pho is super cheap there, may be it would be a liitle bit more expensive than in the restaurant. But it is much cheaper than Pho in US, even in the heart of Vietnamese community Little Saigon in California where a similar bowl of Pho now costs about 14 USD. The traditional Pho is served with a dish of 3 to4 different types of mint, cilantro, bean sprouts, and a few slides of lemon. Besides that mint dish, there should be a small dish of hot chili/pepper, sliced oinion dipped in vinegar mixed with a little of sugar. Moreover there must be chili sauce and hoisin sauce in 2 different squeezable bottles. The traditional Pho does not have garlic and ground pepper, but it is OK to add these flavors. For the "Banh Ran" that you had, they were deep fried in cooking oil. Inside of banh ran was mung bean (also called green bean) covered outsde with flour mixed with some ingredients like baking powder and sugar. The first ball you ate was called "banh ran" (banh = cake, ran = fried) covered wth sesame seed, the last one was "banh cam" (cam = orange or orange color). Banh cam was dipped in caramel after being deep fried. I don't know what was the 2nd ball you ate. I have a big question that I hope you can give me a candid answer based on your experiences over there: you were wandering all day on the street in Vietnam, where could you find the restroom? I watched some Videos that the viloggers asked local vendors and street vendors where the tourists could find the restrooms, most of the vendors answered that "I don't know" or "somewhere". Some of them pointed to the corners of the streets, a few of them pointed to the trees and light poles and said " behind there". One vendor in HCM city said that there was one public restroom several blocks away but noone used it because nobody took care of it. I planned to go to Vietnam but this worried me the most. I definitely don' want to wear ... diaper when traveling. Your sharing experiences would be precious for many people. Hope you enjoy your trip and will not meet another "Aunti". 😊 😄 😉

Technically, you're not suppose to add the garlic liquid into the pho. You eat the garlic slices as a side dish with the pho. However, if adding the liquid is what you like then more power to you. "To each his own" is what I always say.
