FIRST TIME TRYING BRITISH BISCUITS AND TEA!

As an American living in London, I recently realized that there are a lot of "British experiences" that I have yet to try! So in today's vlog I'm visiting Tesco Extra for the first time and then dipping some biscuits in tea!

Never dip a rich tea. I actually didn't know why they call it a tea biscuit it very bad at getting soggy and falling into the drink lol and everyone I known who has dunked a rich tea for even 3 seconds lose the biscuit in the tea maybe the formula was sturdier to dunk years ago but definitely not the more recent kind. Bourbons are nice the more finger shape with a bit sugar on them not a fan of the more squared shape they do taste different not as good

Half American, Half Brit here. Been drinking tea since the day I could hold a cup on my own. 1. Never leave your tea bag in your tea, it’ll turn bitter. 2. Try 2% milk, it’ll be way better than the almond milk. You’ll figure out how much milk you like as you go. 3. Be careful how long you leave the biscuit in when dunking. I usually count to three. You run danger of the biscuit breaking off and slushy biscuit tea is not good. My favourite is McVities dark chocolate digestives, however the milk digestives are good too. Glad you’re trying out British things, there are some things the Brits just do right.

Everyone please understand that in America we know what biscuits are, we know how to use a kettle - a proper one- and we put milk in our tea as well. Nah, I think it's okay to admit that most Americans don't know how to use a kettle because most of us have never owned one. We're not a nation of tea-drinkers culturally. Tea is not important to us. Simple as that. And most of us *don't* put milk in our tea when we do drink it. Tea is only big in the South, and even then it's "sweet tea"/iced tea. This is all okay. What's not okay is looking down on others because of cultural differences. Not knowing how to use a kettle because you don't drink tea or don't drink tea in the same way as people from other countries do is a cultural difference. It's ignorant to criticize someone for not being familiar with something that's not part of their culture and which they're not exposed to.

I’m an American and a southerner so we are big on tea here but it usually the cold, sweet kind. However I was raised in Europe (Army brat) so I grew up watching my parents-particularly my dad-drink hot tea and YES he loves it with milk. I took to drinking hot tea myself a few years ago but I will admit for the most part, it is really just an excuse for me to have a few biscuits before bed (I like my tea after dinner). My older brother bought me an electric kettle last year for Christmas and it has changed my life, no more annoying stovetop boiling for this girl! I’ve tried most of the biscuits you had and the McVities varieties are my favorite. Hard to come by around here so I usually order them on Amazon. Loved watching this video, I’m subscribing now so I can keep up with more of your British “experiences”. Highly entertaining, lol!!

A rule of thumb for using electric kettles is only boil as much water as you need, they're phenomenally power-draining and expensive to run! As regards milk, it goes in first for loose tea, but last for bags (because the fat in the milk can block the perforations in the bag).

  • @eviltwin2322

This is a cute video. I'm originally from Trinidad, so we do it similar with England. One step further, we soak our biscuits in our tea. How we usually make our tea is regular milk(especially evaporated or condensed milk(this one is already sweet) that in the US uses for baking only. In the US, I'll use half-and-half. Then It's used with Lipton, Red Rose or Bromley regular tea and brown sugar. Yum!

In the States, we have lots of cookies that are similar if not the same. We just don't refer to them as 'biscuits', at least not in everyday conversation. But many of them are labeled as biscuits, like the Belvita brand. The ethnic foods aisle has biscuits from Asia & Mexico that are real cheap. They might also be called shortbreads. I've also seen 'Walkers' from Scotland at my grocery store. Never tried it tho. So we have lots of options here actually. Snaps & wafers would make good stand-ins for biscuits too.

The word BIS CUIT comes from a French root meaning twice cooked. (Hence cookery - cuisine) That why they are shaped like that and generally hard. American biscuits are similar to scones. (+ clotted cream and strawberry jam - jelly in USA?)

Hi! Grew up in the Midwest like you! And we do it in our family. With creamer , half and half or coconut milk ( it's richer than almond milk) I drink chai with coconut milk in it. I like it really hot and the cookies or wafers ( I guess that would be a biscuit there) I don't dip, I don't like crumbs floating in my tea, I bite and chase with a sip. Yum. We use honey in our tea growing up I use coconut palm sugar or brown sugar now.

As a Brit, you don't have to add sugar in your tea/coffee. My mum doesn't always have sugar in hers but hey you like your hot beverage how you like it, plus it's perfectly fine to have plant based milk in your tea/coffee. Fun fact the term vegan was first coined by a Brit, the person who came up with the term was Sir Donald Watson (1910-2005) in 1944 in order to make it easier to say "non-dairy vegetarian" as that is a bit of a mouthful to say so can't blame him for coming up for that term, he also founded the Vegan Society. I personally am a vegan and usually buy oat milk, but I really love coconut milk, I have tried soy (not my favourite), Almond, coconut, coconut + Almond, cashew, hemp (it's alright)

PS, if you figure out how to make a perfect cup of tea you'll never want to be without it! That also means perfect milk. The tea bag is controversial - PG tips is actually one of my least favourates. Most Brits haven't figured out that they only drink that cuz it was in the house or it had cute monkey adverts in the 80s - actually it sucks compared to, say, Yorkshire Tea - extra strong (in a big cup!).

Break it in half and put the two halves together to double up the thickness, dunk in tea, hold Lionel with flat edge vertical for structural integrity, this along with the double thickness means I haven't lost a lionel in me tea for a long time.

yorkshire tea is the way to go, pg tips taste kinda weird comapred to most tea. Also make sure you make the tea as strong as possible by banging the teabag around with a spoon, then add plenty of milk to balance it out, and sugar always makes the taste nicer if you're new to tea.

Black tea is strong in tannins, the milk reduces that, calms it down a bit, I only like a few drops in strong tea. We only put milk in black tea in england though that is the standard most popular tea. Cookies have become popular here in the past decade or two, they are softer than biscuits and chewier as they are only baked once, to be a biscuit it is baked twice to be hard and crunchy.
