There're some of their songs that are "explanation video is a must" songs and both Ddaeng and Ugh! are absolutely in that category; for good reasons as you can see. These guys are insanely clever lyricists. Also, some idols chose to "leave this world" that year because of malicious slander and bad mental health, including a friend of theirs from the group SHINee . Omg, their faces at the funeral... 😭 💜

I have very high respect to BTS when I discovered them. But when I watched these explanation videos about their songs, my respect for them just skyrocketed even more mygod lol. People who think BTS is just a boyband clearly haven't paid enough attention to understand they are top tier musicians. And to think that if somebody is a hater, they have to be an intellectual to an extent to even understand their disstracks. King shit. Lol Love the reaction and I love the lights!!!

There's a Korean ARMY that once said, "You have to do research in order to be a fan of BTS" and dang she's right. The fact that I have to research some literature books, psychology books, some history of some places, Bible and mythology, and even a bit of astronomy... It really is an experience. It really baffles me even to this day. I once thought that I'd never would have thought that I'd be researching these things in order to understand a song or even a whole album, it was kind of intimidating 😅

Did you know that some of their songs were used in some lectures? Yeah, BTS themselves are in some textbooks somewhere, like that's wild 🤯 The fact that most of these songs are probably RM's idea, gosh, if he ever thought of making a song about math, he could because he's a genius

I believe the scandal that impeached the president was related to the Sewoll tragedy, which really needs a deep dive on your part to understand it. It was a huge and painful disaster for SK. The President at the time mishandled the response to the event, criminally, and tried to conceal it in order to retain political power. BTS' song Spring Day is either completely or peripherally about this tragedy depending on which explanation you listen to. Spring Day is a gorgeous song about profound loss.

Genius lyrics! Thank goodness for DKDKTV. Bookish Theories also does some great explanation videos. There is a great live performance of UGH! at their recent concert in Busan. It is definitely worth a watch.💜

You are using the song Ugh for your advantage as well!😂 I knew all the cultural references would call your attention cause you once said you like languages. That's why I find asian languages the most interesting, they have so many cultural references in the words they use. I don't speak Korean but as a Chinese learner I can tell both languages have that in common.

(and the lights look pretty! :)) about the tragedies that happened a couple of years ago (I'm not quite sure when) im sure there's someone who can explain it better than me but basically, there were a couple of very very loved celebrities who committed suicide, it's something that sadly happens way to often. I'm sure their fans are still mourning, they were very amazing and lovely people who didn't deserve all the hate they got

YAY!! loved your reaction :) as you saw in many other comments Spring day and the explanation by italian army channel will help fill in the gaps about the impeachment comment. as for the tragic incidents i highly recommend IU's eight ft suga of bts and the explanation by dkdktv he goes deeper into the topic that he briefly mentioned in UGH. ugh was released a few months before eight so it kinda felt like a continuation topic-wise when iu dropped the collab with suga. highly recommend it.

V was in the k drama Hwarang , and so we're some other idols, including minho from SHINee . There's a ton of awesome k dramas 💜

They have such genius lyricism. In a completely different direction, I recommend the song "Answer: love yourself." It shows a different side of their lyricism, like in how they can confort someone. It's a very beuatiful song.

Zeus!! This is why some of their songs need an explanation💜 RM and Yoongi are super awesome lyricist, BTS songs are really deep if can understand the wordplay💜💜💜💜

glad you saw this. And now you realised yourself how important it is to actually go and look for proper translations of lyrics. Those damn jaeguci (sp?) color coded videos are so so bad. please consider reading all lyrics from bangtandoolset where the translation is correct and there are also explanations about cultural context and such.

I love the meaning of Ugh. Stop wasting your precious anger! I catch a lot of that meaningless hate myself, and spend a lot of time telling people to stop trying to hurt me - they really can't anyway - and to turn their energy to something, anything, productive. So just what the guys are saying here. Use your anger for something productive. This is one of the songs that made me realize how much BTS thinks like me 😂 I'm sure folks have answered about the reference to the previous year. It's tragic. Idols are under a ton of pressure. People see the glamorous parts and not the cost to the performers... Another one that I'm sure you'll like - the song and then the explanation - is Baepsae / Silver Spoon. I don't think you've done it yet (or I missed it) but for me it rounds out these two - I tend to recommend them together. The way you liked the frog in the well makes me think you'll like Baepsae just as much. It's social commentary. You'll learn more about the impeachment when you dig into Spring Day, as others have mentioned. BTS was unable to take a strong public stance but they did what they could. The short version is that political corruption was implicated in the deaths of hundreds of people, mostly schoolchildren. Everyone will recommend the Italian Army explanation (and it's very good) but I want to just tell you - it's okay to watch it in private. You don't have to share your reaction to it. I'm a parent. I can't get through that story in one piece. If you want to share you can! But that video is rough as hell because the reality it depicts is rough as hell. You don't owe us your pain.
