Sarah Brightman is amazing. She never gets shrill. She is a voice that floats like a feather.

Sarah Brightman got a lot of criticism in her early career when she was cast in Phantom of the Opera a lot of people said she only got the part because she was married to Andrew Lloyd Webber but let's face it she's a hell of a singer (as proven here)

Just to throw this into the mix, when she played Christina, in 1987, I believe, I saw her in PHANTOM and she did not sing like this...her soprano was thin and she had to push through it. If you watch this whole concert, her ex husband, Lloyd Webber was a guest and he played for her but before so mentioned how her voice had changed over the years and indeed, she had been studying to sing like she did here. I know when I saw the concert above I was blown away by her and by the change in her voice. Now, she is, I don't know...but I saw her give an award and she has done a "Donatella" to her face....which saddened me.

@@Hecate33 Saw her last Christmas in a relatively small venue and Sarah overpowered the sound system a couple times. You could tell the sound people were turning down her mike to keep it from over modulating and she could be clearly heard from the stage not from the speakers. She hasn't lost a trick! A power soprano that can be lovely, light and sweet when appropriate. And not bad looking for 62 years old.

I met her at a hotel I managed and she was so soft spoken shorter thank expected and so nice. She was having a concert and left me 3 tickets to take myself and my parents...awesome concert

someone once said - if God has a voice, it would be Andrea Boccelli's and Sarah Brightman is the Angel of Music. They both made musical magic together with this duet. You should check out Andrea's Sogno and Canto Della Terra... as well as Sarah Brightman's Who Wants To Live Forever (Queen cover) and Harem.

no .....Bocelli became blnd ...after an illness at around age 10-11

This one of the few songs that brings me to tears, not because it's sad, but because it's so beautiful.

This performance is just incredible .... Sarah Brightman is a real star - she became known originally for "I Lost My Heart To A Starship Trooper" with Hot Gossip .... and is very underrated.

Her touching him is to ground him due too his blindness ... she was actually a dancer then it was discovered she could sing by none other than Andrew LLoyd Webber. His mother got very ill when she was pregnant with him, they told her to abort and she refused. Thankfully.

From a young age Bocelli was afflicted with congenital glaucoma. At age 12 he became totally blind after suffering a brain hemorrhage as the result of a soccer accident.

The best thing about reactions to this, is that nobody can talk. its just the literal meaning of the word awesome. Its beauty. Words limit us, they are an attempt to describe things we feel or think, but words can't do some things justice.

Andrea is so young here, he is even better now. They are both just exquisite!

This is the song that introduced the world to Andrea Boccelli. We knew who Sarah Brightman was, due to Phantom of the Opera, but we'd never heard of Andrea till then. This song was a number one hit in 1997 and Boccelli has been an international pop-opera star ever since. He's touring this year, coming to Cleveland OH this November. I will be there!!!

Indeed the song with Celine Dion, The Prayer was a Grammy nominated hit. Since, Andrea Bocelli has topped the classical charts repeatedly. He has had several albums in the past 5 years which are all phenomenal.

Absolutely played this song so much when it came out and bought all of Bocelli's albums.He is amazing.

She did get the part in Phantom because of her marriage but it was specifically written for her to showcase her amazing voice. Phantom, listen to the end. Goosebumps!

Oh, God. Now THIS brings back memories. I used to be mildly (okay, very) obsessed with Sarah Brightman during late high school/early college. Her first solo albums were SO good, in my opinion. Their arrangement was around broad themes. "Eden" was very seductive, passionate, and all RED. Then "La Luna" came and was ethereal, angelic, silvery, moon-like, blue. She's tried to continue the themed projects a bit with the subsequent "Harem" but all too often releases these compilation albums that are really just repackaged tracks. I always wondered how Bocelli felt about Brightman somewhat moving his song, which was originally fully in Italian and known as ("Con te partiro" (I will go with you)) into the English "Time to Say Goodbye." Probably not too bad at all since she invited him onto the duet! Funnily enough, I was at a live concert of hers on the "La Luna" tour living my best poperatic life when all of a sudden she announced a "new" and "rising" star would be joining her for a duet. She then proceeded to share a duet of "There for Me" with none other than a VERY young and VERY new Josh Groban. This was about 2-3 years before his big break into the popera scene with "You Raise Me Up," etc. But the best part of the La Luna tour was she re-produced a track from her first album "Time to Say Goodbye," (where this particular track comes from, which, by the way, remains the highest selling single EVER in Germany), from the opera "La Wally" into the beat-driven single "Question of Honor." An entire mini-album of remixes was released just of "Question of Honor." I think that's where Sarah has her strongest appeal, in this blend of opera (which her voice is definitely suited for among the lighter soprano roles) and wider pop appeal. She truly is one of, if not THE, first crossover from an operatic voice into pop music. On the "Time to Say Goodbye" album, the track is listed literally as "La Wally," haha, which is the title of the entire opera, not the aria she blends in (which is the very well known "Ebben, ne'andro lontana). I think she (very wisely) calculated that broader audiences were much more likely to investigate a briefly titled track called "La Wally" than an entire aria's title. Long reply here, sorry, haha, but if you haven't, definitely check out the "Question of Honor" live performance from her "La Luna" tour. From what I can tell, she includes this in every one of her live tours, and you will definitely see why. I enjoy the La Luna era one the best because it was the first time I'd ever seen it. Let me just say .... SHE FLIES.

Gorgeous! An incredible duo by such beautiful voices! Sarah Brightman's voice is as clear as a crystal and light as air when she sings opera. That's what she brings to the genre. (She's made a career as a Classical Pop artist.) When she was in her mid-twenties, her then-husband (Andrew LLoyd Webber) wrote 'The Phantom of the Opera' for her, and she is the one to listen to when seeing/hearing it for the first time. I've seen this musical/operetta four times and it's so moving and beautiful. This work and Evita are two of my favorites from Webber. (He'd done so many!) From what I've seen, not many online videos exist of Sarah Brightman's performance as Christine in 'The Phantom of the Opera,' so I would recommend listening to the CD track of the same name to start with. But you may find performances of hers singing on a concert stage of some of the songs from this operetta. Great reaction! So glad you liked it!

Andrea Bocelli was born with congenital glaucoma and became totally blind at age 12. He was hit in the eye playing goalkeeper for a football game. He suffered a brain hemorrhage, doctors tried to save his sight but we're unsuccessful. He started singing as a very young child. He actually completed law school....sang to make money while attending school.

This song is just ridiculous, properly transcendental. Sad yet uplifting, always brings a tear to my eye

Sarah Brightman was not discovered by him. Shes been a star since the late 70s. She was married to Andrew Lloyd Webber, she was a disco star then a West End Theatre headliner. She was famous LONG before him.

Excellent reaction to one of the most beautiful video's of all time. You mentioned Sarah's vibrato. I would love to see your reaction to Judy Garland's vibrator in "OLD MAN RIVER" . The one in color. Her vibrator has been discussed since she first sang " OVER THE RAINBOW". That's another one you should react to, the version where she is dressed like a hobo.

She was married to Andrew Lloyd Webber......who wrote 'Phantom of the Opera'. She was the original Christine.

Sarah is more a musical singer rather than opera singer even though she has an opratic sound to her. She is showing affection the way she does because Mr. Bocelli is blind.. :-)

Absolutely love this performance! Interesting factoid; when the Bellagio introduced their dancing fountains this was the music that was played and you could here it from blocks away up and down the Vegas Strip. We were staying across the street when it came on and bought the CD the next morning.

Yes, the best known recording of 'The Prayer" is by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli. There are of course many other versions. Probably the next best known is that by Charlotte Church and Josh Groban. Those versions are nearly identical because David Foster was involved in producing both...
