K-pop is not a genre, it’s an industry.

I think him talking about "they're asking me to step up" and "not a diplomat" is because BTS were really the first Korean artists to become world famous and they broke all the barriers, so then the Korean government stepped in and wanted them to represent the whole country, they had to go on diplomatic missions and give political speeches etc. Everyone wanted them to do whatever would get more success for the country, but all they ever wanted to do was make music and express themselves. At the same time if they ever complain or don't take it all gracefully people criticise them like crazy. RM, being the leader and spokesperson of the group, took on the most pressure. After years of that he's clearly had enough!

Nice reaction! RM, definitely leader of BTS. All 7 members did some solo work and then enlisted in the military -- it's mandatory in South Korea. The first of the 7, Jin, will be back in 2 weeks. BTS are Korean and were created and trained in the K-pop idol industry but originated as a hip hop group so they didn't quite fit the mold and have expanded beyond that industry now. They are the biggest group in the world. There are 2 more rappers in the group if you want to check out their solo albums. And 4 vocalists if you prefer that. BTS as a group does many genres and mixes rap, vocals, Korean, English into most of their songs.

7:00 he’s definitely one of a kind. Even his voice when he raps is distinctive, he has spoken word written all over him. Been doing what he does for a long time: molding music around himself and his group (also made up of six other crazy talented men). How RM can experiment and include so many different genres so much that it creates a sound people aren’t expecting in his position, wild. Hip hop is in his musical roots and it shows. Same with Suga and J Hope, the other rappers of BTS. What’s crazy is how different they all are yet work perfectly together. That being said, please check out his “nuts” vid. :) and yes, there are a ton of great artists out of s Korea on a similar wavelength. Balming Tiger is one of them (and who he’s collaborated with production wise).

It's Korean. He's my fav Korean rapper. I think you'll really enjoy his album. Also, there are 2 other rappers in BTS AgustD and Jhope. Jhope has a collab with JCole if you wanna check it out. All the members have great solo projects along with their group music. I would suggest a member name V, his tiny desk episode. It's a Jazz and R&B style, and i think you'll enjoy it.

This is a new sound for him. He's the leader of BTS, and they actually debuted in 2013 as a Hip Hop IDOL group from South Korea. He started in underground hip hop/rap in South Korea, along with SUGA, one of the other rappers in the group. Also, they have another rapper, J-Hope that came from street dance, and he learned to rap from RM and SUGA, and then he created his own style. All three of the rappers are amazing, and Jungkook, the main vocalist also is an amazing rapper, but he is the main vocalist of BTS. All seven of the BTS members are accommplished solo artists as well as as a group. 5 x Grammy nominated, and over 1000 awards. 6 number one songs on the hot 100 as BTS and 2 more number 1 songs on the Hot 100, 1 by Jungkook, and 1 by Jimin, as solo artists. They are an anomaly in K-Pop, and they paved the way for other K-Pop artists to have a Global platform, especially in the USA. You really should check them out.

I actually heard a Korean explain it that there is a saying in Korea that a person has the patience of a monk, so it has more to do with RM saying it's not that patient or he's losing patience with people. I thought it had to do with the monk thing to, or living without vices, but it's understood to be something else in Korean.

Just wanted to clarify that K-pop is both a genre and industry. Some ppl will say K-pop is just an industry but that is not totally right. K-pop music definitely has a formula (which Koreans calls idol music) to it but that being said the industry of kpop does a lot of genres and a lot of ppl do different genres just like their are hip pop, pop, RnB singing in the west. They being said genre doesn’t really matter these days. Ppl mix genres all the time to the point it really doesn’t matter as long as it is good…

I case you are confused by some people saying this is and K-pop and others saying it isn’t. I think it is helpful to know people debate whether or not BTS is k-pop. I would consider this song to be k-rap under the k-pop umbrella since I see BTS as a K-pop group.

Naaahhhh RM stands for Road Man 😂😂 He was really out there in the streets of London filming this MV actin like that 😂😂 Out here acting like a god damn fool 😭😭 As far as the ‘not a fucking monk’ line goes…..(to my understanding) at one point last year he visited a temple (a private visit) and stayed there for a couple of days. Images and private information that was shared with Namjoon and the Monk was leaked and he was very rightly pissed off. It was just a huge slap to his face because what he thought was a private moment turned out not to be and he just wanted some sort of normalcy. People tend to forget at the end of the day, despite the fame that surrounds him, he is a person with thoughts and feeling of his own. He’s just a man trying to survive in this world and his privacy and personal life shouldn’t always be brought to the forefront of everything he does.
