I've been a fan since 1997 , after reading an old interview with Cliff Burton (during which he mentioned Lizzy as a favorite). I didn't know who they were until I learned that "The Boys Are Back In Town" was their song. Now they are in my top 3 favorite bands and I think Phil is the coolest rockstar ever. Check out "Brian Downey's Alive and Dangerous"...great tribute to Phil and Thin Lizzy.

I saw Lizzy about ten times in the heyday, even a brilliant December concert with Midge Ure on guitar. Talk about a band that gives the fans what they want. Memories of the stage door at the Manchester Apollo on the Chinatown tour - waited to get albums signed, ended up helping the roadies with the reward of watching the soundcheck and meeting the band. Phil Lynott, what a wonderful guy. Sweet teenage years...

Waiting for an alibi is my fave lizzy. It has everything. Killer bass line, great dual guitars, killer solo, great lyrics and tone, and the drum fills are wow.

I saw Thin Lizzy live in 78 in Melbourne Australia with Gary Moore on guitar replacing Robbo. Amazing live band. Suicide is their best song.

I'm glad that you like Thin Lizzy. S & M was not a song glorifying the lifestyle. It is a song about it but like many songs and especially with Phil;s writing style, it is telling a story. Not an endorsement.

Little Girl in Bloom guitarist was Eric Bell, on nightlife it was Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham (solo shared), Waiting for an Alibi was Gary Moore and Scott Gorham (solo Gorham), Killer on the Loose was Snowy White & Scott (solo shared), Thunder & Lightning was Scott again and John Sykes (solo Sykes) & S&M was Snowy White and Scott (solo by Scott). Phil on all as was Brian Downey on drums.

First solo on Thunder and Lightning was Scott btw. S&M did not feature Snowy White as this was before he joined the band. The other guitarist on that was Gary Moore.

It's so easy to get completely lost in Lizzy's catalog. So many deep cut gems. Great point about the solos "being so well thought out." Always tasteful.

Oh Nick...I've been waiting foryou to get to "Waiting for an Alibi"! ...and then when you did you played the short version! There is a longer version with another verse after the solo. Oh well, I guess you got the general vibe. I played in a Lizzy tribute band and this was my favourite Lizzy track. This and 'Hollywood'. It's always charming how often 'Valentino and Romeo' appear in Phil's lyrics. Such a masterful lyricist and an excellent bassist as demonstrated on 'Waiting....'

Great marathon and reaction the Nick and Nick Thin Lizzy music show. 😎 So far as you say not a bad song to be had and a great variety. Especially liked the Willie Nelson cover of night life. Loads of fun.

That monster solo is John Sykes. You must check out his band Blue Murders debut album. Insanely good. Try the opening track Riot.

Gary Moore was John Sykes's hero, and you can hear how much he was influenced by the solo on Thunder and Lightening. John's playing this album was nothing short of incredible. Killer track from a killer album. You brought back some great memories here Nick, cheers.

Always good to hear my favourite band. Little Girl in Bloom is autobiographical, Nightlife takes its inspiration from a Willie Nelson song, Wating For An Alibi and Killer on the Loose were both top ten hits in the UK, although there was some controversy about the subject matter of the latter. Thunder and Lightning was a bit too close to metal for my taste, but it's still the best album John Sykes has played on. The entertainment industry and the sex industry were both located in the same part of London, so it was hard not to be acquainted with the sleazier side of life, and Phil wrote as much from experience as from imagination.

Look for the Song "Dont Play Around" one of their best hidden gems , can only be found on the b side of the killer on the loose single, never made the album.

Brian Downey is Thin Lizzy's founding member on drums as you know and they play metal festivals during the Summer such as Rock Hard in Germany.

Best track on Black Rose is With Love. The playing on S&M is stellar, that bass line! But I don’t think it fit the album at all, it was more a solo song for me.
