TLC WAS VERY FORWARD THINKING IN THEIR MUSIC, FASHION AND MUSIC VIDEOS. THIS VIDEO ON PARTICULAR WAS DONE IN AWAY THAT SHOCKED EVERYONE BECAUSE IT TOTALLY WENT AGAINST THE SONG MESSAGE YET IT WORKED 😂. THEY ALWAYS WAS AHEAD OF EVERYONE AND SOMETIMES THEMSELVES. LEGENDARY IN MY EYES.

I grew up, listening to this in high school! TLC was one of the best groups of the time! You all’s reactions are always so fun to watch. I laugh right along with you!

I love your reactions, I love TLC, and I love this song and always have...but the lyrics make me kind of sick. I can't figure out if they just mean, like Erykah Badu's killer classic "Tyrone," that they don't want some lame-ass guy mooching off them, or if they mean they're only interested in guys they can mooch off-- guys with lots of money who'll buy them expensive stuff, take them to expensive places, and drive a fancy car. I always feel like, based on the lyrics, that it's the latter. If that's the case, that's what kinda makes me sick, because it's so unfair and degrading to men-- like who cares if they are honest, faithful, sweet, smart, funny-- just fork over the goods. It's also degrading to women, because basically they're saying they're whores-- no "love" unless you can afford to buy it. And if that's what the song is saying, this is 3 women adding fuel to the fire of the low opinion many men seem to have of women-- generalizing as if we're all that way. I see this attitude in men all the time online especially, and it's kind of hard to argue against that view of women when these cool women are singing an otherwise great song in a great video, endorsing exactly that, as if it's a good thing to only care about men for their money, and men who aren't rich can take a hike...and as if it makes them high class and discerning to only deal with rich guys who can pay for them, rather than just women with crappy values who sell themselves. So I'm still hoping, despite the lyrics that seem to indicate otherwise, that it's more of a Tyrone song. I know, I know...it's just a song. But if people think popular culture has no effect on people's views and feelings, I think they're delusional. If that were the case, why would huge corporations pay gazillions for ads in the media?

U think it's fun never going out coz he can't afford his half of whatever yall doing? Having to pay for him? Kandi Burrus of the the R&B group Xscape wrote the song along with Tiny. Kandi wrote the song from experience about being with a boyfriend at the time and she had to always pay for things on dates. Kandi didn't go in to detail but this is the story she told in an interview.
