The song composed by Charles Fox with lyrics by Norman Gimbel. The lyrics were written in collaboration with Lori Lieberman after she was inspired by a Don McLean performance in late 1971.

This was a huge hit!. Roberta Flack had the first hit with it as far as I know. Everyone loved this song. In the early 70's I think. Maybe this is the one you heard a million times. She also sang ' The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.'

Great song but my favourite featuring Roberta is the Steve Silk Hurley house track Uh uh ooh ooh look out (here it comes).

Roberta Flack's version of Killing Me Softly With His Song is good although it is a cover. The original version by Lori Lieberman is excellent.

Ms. Hill did a cover. Thus it is the same song sung by someone else so why are you so amazed!?

The fugees version is a cheap rip off of Ms Flack’s wonderful version. I hate that “one time, two times” bullshit the fugees put in it.

The first time I heard the Fugees version I was doing 140 mph on the German autobahn in May of 1996, and it’s a miracle that I didn’t get killed. “Killing Me Softly” was my favorite song since 1973 when I was 10, and hearing the Fugees version without any warning was an extreme shock. It was so awful that I wasn’t sure if was a joke (I was listening to morning radio and the dj’s loved to mess around) or if it was legitimate. There was a lot of awful music in the 90’s, but this was a new low. It’s just as bad as Madonna’s version of Don MacLean’s 1971 epic song “American Pie”, where Madonna turned a classic song about American history into a stupid dance song that had nothing to do with the lyrics. If you haven’t heard it, you might want to just because it’s so unbelievably tasteless and shallow. When Don MacLean was asked what he thought of it, he said: “She could’ve at least waited until I died!”.
