What’s funny, I use this song as almost a “mantra” in the way I will do this song from start to finish when I’m having a panic attack or vertigo or pain etc. (I had meningitis a while back that caused permanent nerve damage) so I concentrate on the lyrics and being able to do it the same way he does. It actually works really well 🤷🏼‍♀️. Love Ren

I am reminded that Ren has this precise internal metronome of time and timing. Something he can follow and something he can use his understanding to control and bend seamlessly. I like almost everything Ren does, but this is probably my favorite

Ren has ADHD, which also brings time blindness, procrastination, general issues with executive function, depression, creativity, a way of seeing things differently and seeing connections that others don't see, and an ability to work well in times of crisis. I listened to this for the first time a short time after my own extremely late diagnosis with ADHD, while I was trying to re-evaluate my life in light of that knowledge. Then there is the chronic illness that also delayed the fulfilment of his creativity. My own chronic illness had just made me realise that I could not continue in my old career, and I was in the process of deciding whether I could allow myself to shift into a creative occupation instead, even though I had never allowed myself to think that way. This song became my anthem, and it is still one of my top three Ren tracks, together with Heretic and Seven Sins. Noah had refused to heed the call a number of times before he gave in and started work on the ark, by the way. That would make him late.

Ren said the line about Noah being late to the ark is about humans not showing up on time/acting in time to save themselves. Also said this track was the inspiration for the Sick Boi project.

You teach that Noah and his family waited seven days in the ark before the flood came, which is a picture of the Rapture happening before the seven-year Tribulation, but Genesis 7:11-16 says they entered the ark on the same day that the rains came. Doesn't that change our understanding of the timing of the Rapture?

this is a deeper song then many see at first listen. good on you for seeing it

To flip "uhh-hmm" (or however you would spell it) in a way that is used as a filler, but to turn it into more of a deliberate rhythmic and phonetically pleasing sound is such a wonderful flourish. As much as a deliberate pause or repetition can be used. I really like it.

This remains one of my favorites from Ren.

This is definitely one of Ren's best. Like with so many artists, I've no idea why it's so slept on - and there are 3 versions of it! The acoustic live is also 🔥, but that's no surprise given the lyricism. Great reaction!

He's talking about strength through adversity. pupils dilate in the dark > students grow from conflict, people die late in the dark > some don't make it; >> same message as Hi Ren, "Students, and victims". "Genesis rain, and it's rain at the start, Genesis, pain in the art, Genesis, aim for the heart." Here he's saying again that you can use the pain for good, the allegory of all great artists are destined to suffer, and he ends it by goading the universe to do it's worst, because it only makes him stronger. "time is the order, the lesson...time is a curse *AND* a blessing... Confined in the eye of [your] mind... take my piece of the pie [cake] and then feed (!) and unwind". > Use what life gives you to build your own ark.

In Hi Ren he said "There are no real winners and no real losers in psychological warfare, but there are victims... *and students* " Pupils (students) - dilate (open up to embrace more, softening and relaxing)

Wonderful reaction! Your enthusiasm and love for music is infectious. Genesis didn’t hit me over the head like some of his other work (e.g. Hi Ren, Chalk Outlines, Dominoes, Jenny & Screech, etc). I very much enjoyed the song but it took a few listens to fully process. Now that I know more of Ren’s back story, it gives me chills and has become a favorite. I like the way you describe it as having a mystical energy to it. If you want to dig deeper into his archives, I have a feeling you might like Ren’s Demos Volume 2 album. 💔❤️‍🩹❤️
