He has the Lady. She's not gone. He's telling her he loves and needs her. It's one of the most beautiful love songs ever. I love how Kenny does that with his voice. Sadly Kenny passed away.

I heard Kenny Rogers sing live in the 80s. He shocked me because it was clear when I was in his concert that I had never heard a recording that did justice to his voice. Live, his voice was simply at another level. Other artists did not seem to me so extremely different from recording to live.

I was very young, and went with my parents. It was a family show anyways, but yeah, I have to say he sounded much better live.

Love Kenny Rogers music from when he was with the First Edition (60's-70's) to his solo career. He was a great story teller in many of his songs like "Coward Of The County" & "The Gambler". He had so many hits "Lucille", "Through the Years", "She Believes In Me" etc. He did a lot of duets such as with Kim Carnes "Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer", with Sheena Easton "We've Got Tonight" & with Dolly Parton "Islands In The Stream". He also did quite a few duets with Dottie West.

Lionel Ritchie wrote this song and there is a video on KZread of them both performing it together. Kenny died at the age of 81 in 2020.

I love so many things about that video. One great example is when Kenny is trying to get Lionel to do the reverb technique. You can just tell the friendship chemistry between the 2. Lionel stayed in Kenny's like poolhouse or whatever for it is called for those "spare" small mother-in-law-type livable buildings.

You are so right; from 75-95, love songs were phenomenal. Men sang to women about love with respect; and most women were worthy of that respect.

No reverb just pure singing, pure talent, unlike todays singers. Kenny is amazing

Kenny was in his fourties’ when this was done and the ladies loved his silver hair.

He is singing to his "Lady". He sorta feels sorta like a fool for falling so fully in love with her. But he and his lady are totally in love and he is singing this song to her.

There was no reverb or auto-tune back then. They relied on their pure talent.

Saw Kenny in concert in early 2000s, he was still singing his arse off… including this song, written by the great Lionel Richie. Kenny was an amazing singer and entertainer. May he RIP!!

Kenny was 42 in this video... it was 1980. Unfortunately, he isn't with us anymore. He passed in March of 2020 at the age of 81.

This is a beautiful song & Kenny released this in 1980 & Lionel Richie also released it a few years later. They were friends until Kenny died in 2020. After he died Lionel did a tribute show to him, which was perfect, because in 2012 Kenny honored Lionel. It was in Las Vegas in 2012 & they sang this together & it was amazing. The friendship & love between them was such a beautiful thing to see & a must watch. Check it out. It seems like the verses are played in a minor key, with the chorus giving us the payoff as it's resolved into a major chord. Thankfully I was able to see him perform a few years before he passed in 2020. He still sounded great 💖🦋

You missed the very begining. He said the song was written and produced by Lionel Richie. There is a live version of them singing it together. They ended up being life long friends. That version is my favorite just because of their friendship. Check it out, by the way Kenny just died in 2020

Okay…Lady is in his life. He’s not feigning for her. He is paying homage to his woman. He’s singing a tribute to his lady. Where in any of the lyrics has his lady left him? She hasn’t gone anywhere. Basically he just is telling her how much she means to him. What her love means to him and how her love has affected his life (something your generation is not used to). Also when he says “you have gone and made me such s fool. I’m so lost in your love” merely means he’s so in love with his Lady….a fool in love. She’s not gone anywhere. This is a true true love song. This man would never throw his woman on a grill.(words taken from today’s so called love songs). Most women would rather their man hold up a boom box at her window “80’s” style than throw them on a grill, basically being violent. Just saying. U missed the mark on this one. Play this song for your “Lady” and see how she reacts. Better yet sing it to her with or without auto tune.
