An artist of many talents! We're glad we finally discovered her!

The MV is basically about two marginalized people (IU is deaf and Tae is blind in one eye) who are persecuted for loving each other. It's basically a metaphor that "different" people can't love each other. At the end, when IU realizes it's the end (because the cube was going to disintegrate them), she covers Tae's one eye so that this won't be the last glimpse of their life together. If you pay attention, IU squeezes Taehyung's shoulder 3 times while he desperately holds her hand (6:37). 3 squeezes is a common non-verbal sign to convey love to your loved ones. "Three squeezes means I love you''. The camera's filter is as if the world through the lens is all perfect, it's basically their wish. The wish that they could live and love each other without worrying, the wish for a world where you don't have to be "in the box" to be "perfect". It's one of the most beautiful MVs I've ever seen. It's so sad and beautiful... They put up with each other so well that I need the two of them as a couple again in a very melancholy kdrama. The chemistry was absurd! Well, I guess I hate cubes now!!

Such a beautiful and emotional video featuring amazing acting and vocals that makes the experience so personal. I really do hope that Tae & IU do other projects together both film and music as they have great chemistry and when he was on her show their voices also blended so well. Also at the end it was pointed out by someone that he can hear what is coming but she can't, while she can see what is coming but she covers his good eye so he can't. Both cry at the same moment though and from the same left eye. Also the right side of his face seems to have burn scars so maybe he had encountered a cube before but got away at the last minute. This cube was relentless in its pursuit and even seemed to change size so it could come into the building. Earlier when it was flying overhead you could tell no way it could fit inside those hallways. I also noticed the cube waits for them to stop fighting and accept their fate. If you notice there are no other people so obviously no person is able to meet the criteria this cube holds that would allow someone to survive. The camcorder that kept showing a better reality, was giving us the viewer a happier version of the events. They both rise in the air together, their bodies still solid, while the reality is that they have been turned to ash. At the top of the camcorder right before it turns off you see ash particles in the air. I also loved how the clothes landed together on the pile. Again all of this symbolizing that even though they seemingly lost to the cube, it couldn't destroy their love for each other. They stayed together in life and death, so indeed their love did win. I can't get enough of this MV, the acting is Oscar level and combined with the award worthy vocals and lyrics it's both heartbreaking but also heartwarming that at least they went together.

IU produced and did the lyrics. her mvs always have deeper meaning. There's a sign when they first come in to the place when they find the camcorder that reads " " RISE FOR ALL" ...think thats a social commentary for the oppressors and for state of world , esp. these days. Most missed that sign..cause IU and V are so captivating. lol IU can't speak and V cant see out one eye... cube is like hate/society projections.Maybe we have to start standing up for love and for others discriminated or oppressed? I feel IU and V have seen so much of how South Korea media, police and citizens can cause so much hate, pressure and judgement that people start to commit suicides at times. IU has known least 3 close idol young friends that exp this. Also recently, in headlines. Famous Actor from oscar winning movie "parasite" had recently killed himself due to all the pressure of media police, even though he was found negative in his drug tests. IU was main lead actress to him in a different show called. "My Mister". What an amazing message and masterpiece, truly deserves a Award in every category.

At face value of the music video alone, basically we got to see a small glimpse of 2 lives, survivors of some dystopic story, in their 11th hour, before they too get snuffed out, their clothes becoming part of the pile of the other nameless & forgotten, of which their stories we never got to see. On a higher level, the MV & song can be interpreted to however you want to, although there have been a dozen different theories on it already, including one theory about aging & another on discrimination. The director said there can be many meanings so don't believe what some people write to be offical. One was about living in a world where you have disabilities and how people are stigmatized. Another was a world of social media with everything being through a lense. But, as usual, they said they left it to anyone's interpretation and said many stories can apply.

But Tae loved her too. At the end of their life, he puts himself in front and tried to break the box. They both are equally scared but when time comes, they can sacrifice themselves for the other. Even if they died at the end, they loved each other deeply, it shows that even if society is oppressive, people can love each other and they can find their soulmate even if they are not "normal or perfect" to the eyes of some many others. The pile of clothes is like from Spring Day, these people died because of injustice, but they deserved love, so the pile of clothes can look very gloomy and sad, but as in Spring Day MV if you don't forget them you can seem them happy and free where they are right now...

I think it's a bit disrespectful to pretend that you didnt know who IU is. Thats like pretending you didnt know who [insert any top Amsrican soloist].

It blows my mind that you guys do K-pop reviews and never heard about IU before. I'm assuming you only do Kpop reviews just for the views but you don't really listen to it
