It's best to watch GFriend's MVs in chronological order, because they have a story line. In total, they has 14 title MVs + 4 Japanese MVs + 1 Special MV ('Labyrinth') and 1 Advertising ('Wave'). And of course, you should definitely watch choreographic versions of MVs or dance practices, because no one dances better than GFriends in k-pop. Their choreography is aesthetic pleasure, they are called the 'Queens of Synchronization'.

I’m not really interested in storylines I’m more interested in reacting to the songs that I will vibe with the most. The music is my priority :)

Apple was such a huge reset for GFRIEND as a group...their concept changed drastically and it's become one of my fave kpop tracks ever.

It wasn’t “drastically”, I would say “gradually” instead. Remember, it took them 5 years to get to Apple. And I’m glad they took their time and tried different concepts first before turning into witches. Lol.

To be honest not to drastically but surprising us more than before. They changed time by time since Fingertip (Teenager Badass) - TFTMN (Teenager Melankolik) - Fever (Teenager elegant) - Crossroads (Mature Woman Melankolik) - Apple (Mature Badass)

Same. The hook is just too sweet and melancolic and a bit sad. It STOMPS on the rest of my top5 tracks of 2020. The only song that had me THAT shook was I Like That by Sistar.

Absolutetly agree... especially Apple's choreography

Sadly, Apple is probably the only title track with that kind of sound. GFriend's signature sound during their early years is this rock-oriented pop with bright melodies and tons of strings. This made their music sound like anime OSTs, similar to Dreamcatcher's. Their "powerful innocent" concept wasn't for everyone especially for westerners, but it sure was a hit to eastern people, because their brand of "cuteness" isn't too sugary, but it was kind of nostalgic and powerful. When GFriend got under BigHit, they experienced a sound change. Though their first title track under BigHit isn't that much drastic, titled "Crossroads," it was nevertheless the beginning of their change. Crossroads retained the "pop rock and strings" sensibilities of GFriend, while having this concept that shows a turn towards darker possibilities. Enter "Apple," where literally they "bit the apple." To be honest when it first came out I wasn't a fan of Apple's sound, but seeing your reaction, I now realize how magnificent that song is LOL. Then came "MAGO," the song which we can safely call as one of those "requisite BigHit 2020 disco retro songs," alongside BTS' Dynamite and TXT's Blue Hour. But still, I like MAGO more. Its mystical melodies and nostalgic synths in the chorus call out to me more than Apple's relentlessly propulsive beats. In terms of "pop rock with strings," I can recommend: Glass Bead Me Gustas Tu Rough Navillera Or if you want more strings: Time for the moon night Sunrise Crossroads Be wary though, GFriend's early concept isn't for everyone, and I understand how some people got "bored" by their innocent concept, or see them as too "feminine." But personally, I love GFriend. Rarely do we get a K-pop group who masters a type of cute concept that isn't really cute, but is actually a type of cute that is pure, powerful, and innocent. There is power in innocence. And also I LOVE their songs. GFriend's songs have the most beautiful melodies in k-pop. In this day and age where every k-pop music that comes out are nothing but empty chants, non-chorus choruses, anti-melodies, sing-talk singings, and endless but unwarranted badass posturing, I always find myself coming back to GFriend's music that's well-crafted. It's always a breath of fresh air.

@@daliah481 fingertip is still hip hop and orchestral rock though, gfriend were never innocent, it's just that they had a timeline as a concept and it changed as they matured in the concept, so i do believe it has to do with bighit

@@yujuswifebecauseshesveryfr9414 well from when their company joined bighit their usual producers got replaced, it sure has perks like money and managing, but I'm curious if this is just a change in concept (as in meant to be because of their theories) or a strategy bighit is aiming for, like with bts for example. I mentioned bts because these days i see a lot of similarities in how stuff has turned out to be in their theories, and they have similar scenes in their mvs too. So idk tbh, all i want for sure is gfriend's longevity in the industry.

Apple is absolutely incredible. I felt like I was having a fever dream the first time I heard it. Those chords, the instruments used, all of it had such a overwhelmingly "enchanted" feel. Like you're drugged and under a spell. They don't really have songs like apple but I recommend changing out Fever and Rough of their title tracks. I also recommend Stairs in the North for a pop rock b-side that I'm pretty certain you'll appreciate.

I recommend their other songs Sunrise and Crossroads these are like such beautiful songs too 💕

GG with a lot of members dancing = synchronicity, while doesn't consider GG with just 6 members what a pity. Even if GFriend has lot of members i'm pretty sure they can make elegant formations and still have synchronicity because GFriend members strives hard and are strict on themselves and that's the thing i'm really sure about being a fan for 4 years. I'm done here.

@MyGaming Den no. Gfriend are known as the queens of sync all over Korea. That is their titles and even non buddies know that. It’s not IZONE and your little computer video means nothing when Korea acknowledges that title belongs to Gfriend and associate in sync dance with Gfriend.

Gfriend OMG I love them. Fifi, you will certainly love their music, mostly because from what I’ve seen you are driven by production, instruments and melodies. We are not able to recommend more songs like Apple, mostly because Apple was the first of its kind and the only one so far. Gfriend’s career has been stamped by a beautiful orchestral sound, that I’m sure you will love, too. Some of my favorites are: - Rough - Summer Rain - Time for the Moon Night - Sunrise - Crossroads - Labyrinth If you like orchestral music at all, you will absolutely love them. The songs above are title tracks (Labyrinth is a b-side, but they promoted it in music shows) but their entire discography is a huge chef kiss.

Same Girl I have never rewatched and replayed a song as much as Apple. Still jamming to it - this is a bop. Still cant believe how they got robbed at awards shows last year. Three songs concepts and masterpieces. Seems like big part of our world is deaf. Anyway those awards are popularity awards...

Apple is not just one of my favorite kpop songs, but one of my favorite songs of all time. It’s one of those rare songs I consider true ear candy. The chord progression, the guitars, that jazzy, plucky bass, the synth, their breathy vocals. It’s a masterpiece. I can listen to on loop without ever getting tired of it. I seriously sat on KZread one night and watched every single Apple stage because I couldn’t believe this song actually existed.

So many people seemed to love MAGO last year, but Apple?! LEGEND. Both songs are a different sound for gfriend though. Maybe you'd like Fingertip, but I'd say it's closer to MAGO then Apple.

Apple is such a criminally overlooked song. The instrumentation, the sound design, the vocals and vocal melodies. I might be weird for this one, but the way the song swings and drives on that bassline reminds me of the best parts of the production for Michael Jackson's The Way You Make Me Feel.

Gfriend are my favorite girl group. Best discography in K-pop IMO. 86 Korean language tracks, no skipping required. All hits no misses.

Someone finally appreciates Apple,im so happy 😭 is the best song of their careers and one of the whole K-Pop history NO ONE CAN CHANGE MY MIND. Jamming with this song until today even if its released Months ago. MAGO is a superior comeback with retro concept along to LADIDA. PERIODT. FINALLY GFRIEND! ONE OF MY FAV GIRLGROUP!!

GFriend are very known not only for dance abilities with amazing synchronization, but also their amazing vocal too. They also can do 2X speed dance and dance with blindfolds but still keeping correct position and 100% synchronization. They have released dance practice with blindfolds version(eye mask) for MAGO. It's so crazy and u should watch it.

They're not quite Apple, but they've got some extremely atmospheric songs like Time for the moon night and Crossroads. From what I understand Fingertip might've had mixed reviews (not sure), but it was one of their bigger concept changes, and I loved that song

So glad you reacted to GFriend! They're one of my favorite groups when it comes to music. Apple is pretty unique in terms of GFriend's sound, though they do have interesting melodies in their more orchestral music (Time for the moon night, Sunrise, Crossroads, Memoria). If you'd like more of a Latin-influenced song, I also find their Japanese release Flower to be incredibly catchy (though not sure how copyright would be).

their growth over the years has been wonderful. if you do a deep dive, they started on the 'cuter side' paired with absolutely amazing vocals. they've been having a few concept changes recently, but it's been wonderful to see. their b-sides are also incredible what i appreciated most about mago was how nicely it stood out for me in the 70/80s synth pop. i often felt like it was a bit of an 'emotional bop', mostly because of the chorus apple, on the other hand, is completely stunning. it's a bit of an odd song, but i love it even more because of that. the production is stunning and the mv is also so beautiful.

Gfriend's songs are very different as I thought, the instrumentals are composed From a bit of EDM, violins, piano, drums, eléctric guitar , bass guitar (in Gfriend "Fingertip" the bass guitar is heavy and savage) In short I would say it is Pop rock orchestral And classic.

We're snakes. Though i don't vibe with mago and had a hard time accepting the change that came with apple, the last one still remains one of my favorite songs of 2020. Fifi i think you'll get shocked when you'll react to their older songs, it's literally nothing like this, ISTG they created a whole genre, it's like orchestral hip hop in a way, my personal favorites are navillera, sunrise and rough. Navillera and rough have both a solo segment of electric guitar in them, and it's so good istg. With gfriend it's kinda hard to like their music really, it's either you love it or you hate it, because they have one of the most distinct sounds in kpop, however I think it's very interesting to say the least

i really recommend crossroads and sunrise from them, those 2 are my personal favorite gfriend title tracks, and for b-sides, night drive and i think you'd really like love spell

Oh you've been missing out! I think you would enjoy their older stuff too, they have some interesting sound kind of unique to them - these two were actually slightly different from what they usually did in the past... Rough is their iconic song, but I also love Fingertip and there's a bunch of others which are awesome too. I think some bigger Gfriend fans than I am would recommend better, but yeah, I'll be looking forward to more of your Gfriend reactions :D

Apple is the most underappreciated song of 2020 too imo. Was my number 1 song for the year. It's such an interesting, game-changing song. No one else is doing that in kpop at the moment. Made me fall in love with gfriend

I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS

If I recall correctly, Apple was divisive. Many folks loved the new direction and sound and many did not, wanting to maintain the status quo of "classic" GFriend. I'm squarely in the loved it from the get-go camp. I never disliked any of their songs but I also never thought that I'd randomly hum/sing any of them unprovoked either until Apple and Mago. So good...

Isn’t “Apple” a stunner???? Gaaaaahhhh! When I first sat down to watch it, I didn’t get past the intro guitar for nearly a minute. I remember sitting there, thinking, “I’m sorry, are they covering Jeff Buckley or something?” Of course the rest of the song didn’t sound like any song of his, but there is not one second in “Apple” that isn’t pleasing. As far as I’m aware, there are no other songs like this one. It’s just one of those strange gems that kpop inducts - like MONSTA X’s “Myself.”

P.S. I did a little bit of research into this song and Frants was one main composer/writer for it. This is a name I have noted when enjoying other kpop music. [I should start keeping a notebook of notable composers so that I can easily track them.] The other two writers for this track were “Hitman” Bang, and Pdogg. I don’t recognize either but wanted to make sure to let you know about them as well.

Honestly, GFriend has the best transformation and development of group and music from a simple high school girls to independent women.

Apple is literally my soty of 2020, when I tell you I was blown away by that song, it's literally everything that I love in music incorporated in 1 song, it's so perfect 😭

OMGGG gfriend is another one of my all time favorite kpop groups!!!!! loved your reaction to apple! their earlier title tracks, with the exception of fingertip and fever, might not be to your liking bc a lot of the title tracks are orchestra pop oriented or bubblegum-y (?) LMAO but i absolutely love everything they do! but one thing about gfriend is their bsides are CRAZY good! my all time fav albums of theirs is Time for Us and Time for the Moon Night because of the bsides! YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO THE BREAKDOWN IN “Tik Tik” it’s sooooo good and i think u might like it bc of the funky sound in the bridge, it has the coolest fucking bass line EVER! and the synth and guitar is so slfkfldldlsl from the Time for Us album, my fav bsides consist of L.U.V. and Only 1. the adlibs in L.U.V is something im obsessed with. i dont know how to describe it at all but the adlibs kinda remind me of 90s-00s girl groups i literally don’t know why, maybe somebody else hears it too lol their most recent album Walpurgis Night though is something that seems more up your alley! i highly recommend it! I know pretty much next to nothing about Gfriend nor do I stan them but I will say that this is top tier kpop and is one of the greatest songs and mv's.... so crisp and clean with it's intentions and like plays with contemporary styles but also pays homage to like 2nd gen 3rd gen kpop.

Apple is such a mega bop. I was not interested in Gfriend but I heard Apple bass lines and I was sold. I know that there are some fans (buddies) that are not that warm to this new Gfriend's era but the the 'Walpurgis Night' album is masterpiece after masterpiece after mastepiece.

if you like apple, sadly it's the only gfriend title track that sounded like that as apple is the beginning of a total 180 concept change for gfriend. most of us buddies recognize gfriend by their classic string/orchestral oriented sound like crossroads, TFTMN, sunrise, fever, rough, summer rain, navillera and glass bead. be warned tho that their classic sound isn't everyone's cup of tea.

I’m so glad you found this song! Absolutely up your alley. I’ll agree with a lot of commenters that this is rare for them unfortunately, but give “Time for the Moon Night” a shot. Conceptually it’s really interesting and the choreography is stellar. I honestly don’t know if you’d be up for much else. I really hope BigHit can keep them on track with “Apple.” Their maturity and prowess is amazing.
