Even though I didn’t know this fact, when i first reacted to it, it reminded me of creep by TLC. But that’s because i’m a 90’s kid and artists like missy elliott, tupac, TLC, SWV, aaliyah, etc…were my favorite artists growing up. That’s pretty cool to know this fact.

Exo's MVs usually don't have much to do with the lyrics (but sometimes they do like in obsession). The mvs are all connected into a storyline. But that's a story for another day. They have amazing vocals and a great discography. You won't regret getting to know them. The song monster is pretty much about dangerous/ toxic love. Dont confuse popularity on sns and streams on yt as the ultimate sign of success. Exo even being gone on hiatus for years and yet still hold the most streams on MelOn Korea for any group ever. Baekhyun even though just came back from military and has never done solo tour or solo concert, never promotes solo album abroad and yet still the highest selling solo artist EVER in the history of south korea. Anything Exo does goes #1 itunes worldwide as well as #1 on korean, chinese, japanese and other stream platforms worldwide. Many people around the world dont use spotify or yt… Fyi did you know just QQ music from China alone has more users than all spotify worldwide users combined? And anything Exo puts out always goes #1 on QQ? Even D.O’s expectation album went #1 digital album sales on QQ and #itunes worldwide, when he doesnt even have any choreo or tiktok challenge or any overseas promotion… they stay continuously SELLING albums and merch and fanmeet tickets, despite not even stepping outside of Seoul to promote. TODAY their song First Snow, a 10-year old song, is trending #1 in South Korea yet again on Melon because it’s snowing there. They are still the Guinness world record holders for fastest sold out concert tickets 0.2sec for 66k+ tickets. They broke their own record before that was 0.4s. They havent been on a tour since 2019 and yet they still remain record holders. Do your research before you comment.

Of course it’s a huge achievement given that it was a different era and there was no social media and streaming during the height of their popularity. However it’s not just album sales, there are many various revenue streams and other factors to consider such as length of career, number and quality of albums and number of #1 hits, ticket sales, fan club and merch, relevancy of music throughout the years. Even old Exo songs and albums continue to make sales and continue to chart every year, and their sub-unit and solo works are also big successes. We can never be sure about the accuracy of estimates, but news articles put net worth of BSB around ~$200M vs Exo is at ~$1Billion, much more than Bts and BP combined. The impact and influence of BTS and other popular groups worldwide is obviously an amazing achievement, but a lot of new kpop fans focus only on US or Western media like billboard, spotify, youtube etc. But Exo consistently being top in China sales alone (China has bigger population than the whole of USA and Europe combined and they dont have youtube or Spotify) already puts their reach at a very wide scope, and don’t forget the reason they are called the nation’s pick in South Korea - they are consistently at the top in sales and streams. Melon named them emperors of kpop this 2023 because they have the most combined streams out of all artists in Melon History, amazing considering they were in hiatus for years and havent done much promotions since being in the military. For these reasons to me they are the best.

I’m so happy you reacted to EXO. You should react to their killing voice. I would also recommend checking out thier debut MAMA which was released in 2012 and Obsession which came out in 2019.

FYI: SM Entertainment didn't start putting English subs on their MVs until 2018, so unless you happen to watch an MV that says it has been remastered, you won't find English subs on any of SM's MVs that were released before the middle-to-end of 2018. EXO's "Monster" was released in 2016, which is why there are no captions. If you click on the CC button and it says "English (Auto gen.)," this means these are subs that are designed for the hearing impaired and they only work on videos where they are speaking English. The way auto generated subs work is the computer listens to what is being said in the audio on the video and it attempts to interpret what is being said in English. Therefore, on a video like "Monster" where they are speaking in Korean, the computer is trying to find English words that sound like the Korean words that it hears, it's not translating the Korean lyrics into English. That is why the subs look like gibberish. However, if you were to click on the CC button and it just says "English," this means either the company or a fan has taken the time to translate what they are saying in Korean, or whatever language they are speaking, into English. Although, if you want to know what the song is about, just look up an English lyric video. There are lyric videos that have been created by fans for pretty much any Kpop song that has ever existed, and you can find videos that translate the song in almost any language a Kpop fan might speak. Therefore, it's not hard to understand what a song is about. Plus, what's cool about lyric videos is they usually are color coded so that you can see who is singing each line of a song, which may help you start to identify each of the members voices and help you to be able to get to know their role in the group even better. That way you will eventually be able to tell who is singing or speaking at any time without even having to see them.

It is a comprehensive guide that is a couple years old, but showcase each of the current 9 members of today, their personalities and individual talents. No other Kpop group are as diversely talented as Exo members, as Exo has been around since 2011 as youngsters, and have matured into the seasoned performers they are today. They have been around the world and back, including the States, and have garnered a massive worldwide fandom in the process. They are a bit older than groups like Bts, Ateez, Stray Kids, Nct, and girl groups of today....and because of their immense popularity starting from a young age, Exo became one of the most iconic kpop groups in history....groups of today, including those that were not even imagined, grew up watching Exo, admiring them and trying to emulate the charisma Exo exudes on stage. Exo are primarily r&b based, and sing love songs, pop, dance songs....but Exo are singers...crooners...known for a laid back mellow old school retro style of music that no one really does anymore. And it's their vocals and harmonies that have made them the overnight sensation they became starting from 2011. They are known as "The Vocal Kings of Kpop", and for good reason. You should consider this guide, and actually invest the full hour to watch it, all new reactors do this guide eventually. Or start with a couple more mvs, but seriously, this guide is a must. In order to understand the story in EXO's "Monster" MV, as well as all of EXO's content, you have to know that it's all connected, and every new piece that's introduced explains a little more of EXO's story. Each MV is like another chapter in SM Entertainment's SM Culture Universe storyline and it's all part of a larger story that also includes the majority of SM's other groups' and artists' storylines. It's like a giant graphic novel or mystery movie series. Everything EXO is involved in, and I literally mean almost everything -- including all of their MVs, the majority of their sub-sub-unit MVs and members' solo MVs, teaser videos, concert stages, concert VCRs (videos played in between sets at concerts) and choreography, as well as special content included with their albums, etc. -- is designed to help tell a little more of EXO's story. EXO debuted back in 2012, and from the very beginning their concept is that they are aliens from Planet Exo who have come to Earth with superpowers to protect the Tree of Life from the Red Forces. And as otherworldly beings, each of the members has a superpower that is unique to them. "Monster" was released in 2016, so there are 9 members in this MV. As the English lines in "Monster" say ... They're "Creeping, Creeping Creeping .... Creeping in your heart babe" "You can call me Monster (because) I'm creeping in your heart babe." "She got me goin' crazy." The song's called "Monster," so the words are about acting like a monster: "Don't be afraid, love is the way ... I'm sorry, you make me sooo craaaazzzy, you know you dooooo." Therefore, the floating watch and the car that is on fire in reverse, etc., I think -- on top of being a metaphor in the story -- also was supposed to be the members using their superpowers. And the snake, like a monster, mirrors the beat of the song, which kind of slithers like a snake as a metaphor for the way the guy slithers in and out of the relationship stealing warmth and affection from the girl, but in the end, leaving her cold and alone like a cold-blooded snake, etc. The snake is also red, which means that it most likely represents something to do with the Red Force. However, if you look up the English translation of the lyrics, you will see in the song, the members are talking about a girl and they are telling the girl that "You can call me Monster" because I know I am bad for you and I will ruin you. I know that when we are over that I will have destroyed everything that is good about you, but I don't care because I want you so much that it doesn't matter to me. Which could be a metaphor for EXO's connection to the heart of the Tree of Life. The woman in EXO's songs is often thought to be a metaphor and physical representation of the Tree of Life. That is why the members are always trying to save the girl or protect her, or they talk about being controlled by the power of the woman or they are worried about their passion destroying her, etc. It's EXO's job to protect the Tree of Life from the Red Force. EXO was sent to Earth on a mission to find the two halves of the tree and reunite them in order to restore peace in the world. The two halves of the tree -- EXO-K (Korean) represents one half and EXO-M (Mandarin Chinese) represents the other half -- were originally separated in order to keep the Red Force from gaining control. However, now, in order to fix all the things that are going wrong in the world, EXO needs to defeat the Red Force and find where the two halves of the tree have been hidden. Therefore, the story in "Monster" is all about EXO's origin story and about how they are trying to stop the Red Force from corrupting humanity, while also trying to find clues to where the Tree of Life is located. Also, the majority of the choreography for "Monster" has to do with the members using their powers, so in their dance practice and if you watch a live performance, if you know what you are looking for, you will see that each move is done for a very specific reason. The X they make to represent EXO is only the beginning of the story in their choreography. For example, D.O. has the power of super strength, so during his part in the song and choreography you will see that he waves his hands and the other members are pushed away from him or pulled toward him. When you see Suho in the middle of the group and they have a hold of his arms, he rotates his body around like swirling water because Suho has the power to control water. Xiumin has the power to control snow/ice/frost, so during one part of the choreography you will see that each of the members pause as if frozen as he moves in front of them. You see Kai slide backward and forward into the center of the group while waving his arms to represent him teleporting. And when Chanyeol jumps over Lay, Sehun and Xiumin, this could be him using his phoenix fire wings to fly, or it could be showing him leaping over flames because his power is the ability to control fire. Sehun has the power to control wind, so during his parts, you will see the other members shuffle around him as if they are creating a windstorm. And when they sit on the ground with their one knee in the air and rotate their bodies, it's supposed to represent a sundial -- EXO gets their power from the eclipse and their powers are affected by planetary and solar phenomenon, so the sundial is meant to represent the passing of time and their connection to the sun. (Even some of EXO's comebacks were released on days when we had a real eclipse or other planetary phenomenon, etc.) You should also make note that "Lotto" is a prequel to "Monster," so when you watch their "Lotto" MV, just keep in mind that what you saw happen in "Monster" is what is going to take place after or in conjunction with the events in "Lotto". How "Monster" and "Lotto" tie into EXOs larger storyline is a little open ended, but because "Lotto" is thought to be the prequel to "Monster," I think the story starts out in "Lotto" where the members have somehow infiltrated this big gambling ring and are undercover as they work to uncover a clue or something they need in order to accomplish their tasks here on Earth. I think the underground gambling establishment is run by a gang of bad guys who are probably members of the Red Force. "Lotto" is where we are introduced to a girl who is being held captive. And ultimately, I think what EXO are trying to do is rescue the girl from the Red Force, but they are trying to do it without blowing their cover or being found out. So, that's why you see in "Lotto," and continued in "Monster," the members are fighting against the police because the police have come in to take down the gambling ring and rescue the girl, which is also what EXO are trying to do. However, the members of EXO don't want to be discovered, so they play along as if they are part of the bad guys. EXO are supposed to be going about their tasks here on Earth incognito, and humanity is never supposed to find out about EXO, so they are trying to keep a low profile. As we see in the end of "Monster," Baekhyun disguises himself as one of the police and helps the other members escape from the back of the police van before they are taken to jail and/or captured by the Red Force, etc. (However, if you look closely, the members who are in the back of the police van are dressed in red, so the ones who Baekhyun rescued may be X-EXO -- EXO's alter ego clones -- and not EXO like we originally thought. Although I'm not sure whether at this point Baekhyun realizes these aren't the EXO members. Or maybe Baekhyun is also a member of X-EXO. Just another giant mystery we have yet to solve.) You also see Lay, EXO's Chinese member, crouched in the middle of what looks like a pile of people -- I'm not sure whether these are the FBI agents, or if these are members of the Red Force -- and I think he is checking to make sure they are OK and possibly trying to use his power of healing to fix things and heal the injured. Because some theories believe that EXO are traveling between time periods and dimensions, I think in "Monster" they also might be showing how some of the members are arriving on scene at different moments in the timeline of events that are taking place in the MV -- the members don't necessarily arrive at the location together -- as explained in their Pathcode teaser videos leading up to their "Call Me Baby" comeback. For instance, in "Monster" you also see Kai standing on or near a giant pile of people, and he seems to be standing over them. Some have pointed to this as possibly showing evil X-EXO Kai, who has done something bad, but I think this may be showing good EXO Kai, who has just shown up at that moment, observing what has taken place. Because Kai has the power of teleportation, he is the one that is in charge of bringing the members together and traveling between time and space, so I think he has shown up from a different time or place and is now trying to figure out what has happened, etc. In EXO's "Obsession" MV the members in the bright colored clothing with the crazy makeup and hair are supposed to be X-EXO -- EXO's alter ego clones who have been created by the Red Force -- and the ones in the black or dark colored clothing are supposed to be EXO -- the good guys. So, in the parts where they are dressed in all black in "Monster" I think this is showing EXO, and where you see them in the clothing with red accents, this might by showing X-EXO. At the time when "Monster" was first released, we had no idea about X-EXO's existence, but since "Obsession" -- which is one of EXO's more recent releases -- we have started to go back and reanalyze some of their older MVs, and it appears that what we thought was always EXO, may have been in fact X-EXO some of the time.

EXO is one of the best and one of my personal favorites. You should check out NCT another SM group. Although you can watch for weeks on EXO material only as they have been around for a long time.

I have been listening to kpop for 6 years and still haven’t listened to hundreds of groups. It’s a long wonderful journey, so enjoy and take your time. Ah, just in case: Eri = Baekhyun’s name for the fans (we have all adopted it of course) EXO-L = also name for the fans… I think it’s the official name? But it’s EXO-L because EXO originally had two groups, EXO-K (Korean) and EXO-M (Chinese - Mandarin). Since L comes between K and M, that’s where it came from because “We are ONE” ❤

You can start by listening to EXO's debut song MAMA and their XOXO first album. The album is full in RNB and it's the album who broke the 12 year drought of Kpop and became a million seller ❤️❤️❤️ Also, Baekhyun (one of the main vocalist) just got debut as one of HEARTSTEEL (LEAGUE OF LEGEND GROUP) and now became the voice of Ezreal 😭😭

All of their songs are bangers. I've been a fan of theirs since 2012 but until now I can't choose what's my favorite song because all of their released albums are banger after banger. My favorite song kept on changing every single day 😭😭 Also since it's holiday season, EXO literally has song that became unofficially Korea's winter song and I am talking about "The First Snow" of EXO. I can't even remember what year it was released but every year it kept on emerging from the charts whenever it snows in Korea.

Exo are actually seniors of all the groups that you mentioned so you can catch the experience in their tone. Exo also have a proper concept, basically they're one of the only groups who started a consistent concept/storyline.

A lot of Kpop music videos didn’t have subtitles until BTS started to have subtitles on their mv. BTS started to put subtitles on their music videos and other videos because army ask the company to, that’s when other K-pop groups started to have subtitles because their company saw how it helped bts became worldwide. So a lot of Kpop groups who debuted before BTS,they don’t have subtitles on their own stuff. Like subtitles on Kpop mv wasn’t a thing until BTS made it a thing so now it’s a must
