Their songs may feel outdated these days, but Karen Carpenter's voice will never fail you. There have been many great female vocalists in pop over the decades, but every time I stumble across a song by The Carpenters it convices me there never has been a more beautiful voice than Karen's.

she was the on stage drummer except for when she was standing up front singing on the ballads, but most of the drumming for their recordings was done by others such as Hal Blaine. They say that here drumming style was more suited to the stage than the studio.

The song was written by Paul Williams (played in the movie Smokey & The Bandit as Little Enos). The song was originally written for a TV commercial for a bank, about a young married couple just starting out. Richard Carpenter (guy next to Karen and her brother) saw the commercial, and thought the song would be perfect for Karen's voice...HECK YEAH!!!

These kids are great. Very open to music that 99.9 % of their friends would never give a chance. I really get a kick out of their love for The Beatles! I'm 57 years old but a big fan of these kids! I think what they do is great because they're hopefully exposing the best (60s and 70s) older music to people of all ages and more importantly people their own age!! It helps keep some nearly forgotten band cree çs and singers music alive. And that's a good thing!!!

Im on my late 60s, so remember KC very well on the radio and TV specials. She began, with her brother Richard, by playing drums. Richard, her brother, was a terrific arranger but KC's voice was discovered by Herb Alpert in 1969 which began their road to fame. Richard convinced her that her best singing voice was contralto, 'the money is in the basement'. I believe KC's, voice, especially contralto, was the best female voice ever. No auto-tune, stripping, gimmicks, or screaming. Her nickname was 'one take', since she always sang a song once in studio without a single re-take. She sang to you with mesmerizing emotion, perfect pitch and enunciation. Her voice made you listen to her. She had no professional voice training. John Lennon told her at an LA restaurant that she had a lovely voice. Every female harmony in all of her songs was hers as well, sang, then dubbed into the song by Richard. They were most successful in early/mid1970s when she received 4 grammys. She was also recognized by 1975 Playboy poll as rock drummer of the year. She never knew true love, nor how good she really was. KC was a one of a kind female vocalist with the voice of an angel. Suggest songs: "Solitaire', A Place To Hideaway', 'Only Yesterday', 'Rainy Days and Mondays', 'I'll Say Godbye To Love', 'Need To Be In Love' and many more. She was never happy with way she looked. She had a few friends, her good friend was Dionne Warwick. She had serious onset of anorexia in 1975 that continued the rest of her life. She died Feb 1983 at 32yo due to complications from anorexia.

Karen and Richard Carpenter were brother and sister. She was originally the bands drummer and was very good at it. But as you can see, her amazing vocals soon led Richard to prompt her to sing. This particular song, was actually written as a jingle for Crocker bank in California. But when Richard saw the commercial one night while watching TV, he got a hold of the person who wrote the jingle. And he convinced him to flesh it out into a full song. The song was an immediate hit. And for years, this was a must at every wedding reception. You still hear it even today sometimes at wedding events. Because it really is very appropriate to that situation. Unfortunately, Karen battled with anorexia, and her declining health finally led to her death in 1983. Richard himself fought drug addiction for the longest time, entering rehab on more than one occasion. Today, at age 73, He is still active, writing, arranging, and recording. He funds an annual scholarship/talent show for people with artistic abilities that is held at the Thousand Oaks Civic Center in Thousand Oaks, California.

Karen and her brother grew up in Downey, Ca Southeast of Los Angeles. A beautiful suburb . An article about the Carpenters referred to Karen as Richards chubby little sister. That type of reference can affect a young woman. She developed anorexia because of this. She was always worried about her weight. That contributed to her death. Very, very sad. The people of Downey were very sad and shocked to hear about her passing. Very famous artists showed up for her funeral . It was packed in Downey that day

Karen didn't just have the most amazing voice, she was also a world class drummer. This song ''we've only just begun'' was co written by Paul Williams, who in the 70's was listed with a co writer as having the top 500 hits of the decade. This song was originally a bank video about newlywed buying a house. And Richard Carpenter, the brother of the duo, still a magnificent artist/musician/singer songwriter took this bank advertisement and turned it into the greatest his of the 70's, played at every wedding of the 70's. I'm a 61 year old white female. My first CD purchase was Carpenters Christmas...so beautiful. My next CD was a double of Lynyrd Skynyrd. I hope I can send yall this...hope it goes through. I was blessed with a lifetime of great music. My favorite singer was Joe Cocker and my favorite artist/entertainer was Michael Jackson.
