One of the greatest uses of discordant sounds in music. Also one of the most realistic expressions of heroine use, from someone who knew.

this song always gets me so emotional aha
This captures so well heroin addiction. I have only given up two weeks after 29 years of heroin use. I have destroyed all relationships with my parents, my kids, who are now adults friends, all now who dont want to know me. Heroin makes you selfish, deceitful, you steal, lie to those you love and yourself and as the song states, it becomes your wife, your life and all you care about is that next hit to escape the reality of your life falling apart. I have lost my home, my family, I spent $100,000+ on heroin over the years. I will never get back all the lost time and my family will never forgive me but now I have entered a 12 step programme, rehabilitation, as all i can do is try to find myself and forgive myself before I die.

You've got this man. I've been there. 17 years off of heroin. It's not an easy road, but it's definitely a prettier road. Life is better when you can actually see it.

The beat is a heartbeat… it’s awesome
One of my favorite things about this song is there is no bass guitar. Maureen Tucker pounds on her drumkit in a way that fills in the spaces a bassline would sit and sonically drags the listener along Reed's heroin ride. A chaotic and, in some ways, terrifying, song.
This is a great song . I remember the first time I heard it, made me feel so crazy and I had to go on a run and just watch the world go by me and feel a rush

it is a great song
One of the most heavy {lyrically } songs ever written......ever !
One of the great things about the Velvet Underground is that other songs on the same album are very different.... try "I'll Be Your Mirror", or "Sunday Morning"

I'm so used to it segueing into the ripper of There She Goes Again
Venus in Furs is one of their best IMO. Great Band.

Close second I'd say but great
I got in SO MUCH TROUBLE for playing this song on my radio show. A woman wrote in, irate that I had played a pro-drug song. I had to publicly explain that this was the most anti-drug song ever
It's just like Heroine it's a train that starts off slow and it gets going faster faster faster until you can't get off

Ya exactly, I feel like the end feels like your on a plane crashing. Or i guess the feeling of your high crashing or turning on you
this song is very beautiful, not really a jam to dance to. but it's full of ups and downs, beautiful sounds and very organic overall 💫 it's very frenetic and crazy, i think it speaks to a lot of people who experienced drug abuse, and people who love music when it goes all over the place

I agree 100%. I’m listening to it rn and ran across this video I’ve been listening to it for about 3 years. Right when I started down the road of oxy😢
"And I guess that I just don't know" is the wisest thing ever said
This song explains it to T.. when he says heroin makes him feel like Jesus son when. He says he wishes he was born a thousand years ago he’s saying I wish I was born when heroin didn’t exist.. He refers to the body count and when ur addicted you don’t care about people dying it’s a regular occurrence This song is primal in so many ways

Why do I love to see your reaction to songs for the first time? I think it’s because I get to experience the first time through you. Thank you for enjoying music. ❤
Lol I heard this song almost 6 years ago, and every time I hear it, it's like I'm hearing it for the first time all over again 🥰
my grandfather was actually the former manager of the velvets. a lot of stories, some interesting, some sad, and a lot of them are things that will remain unknown to anyone but my family and i. i will say though, certain members were actually very addicted to heroin. it’s very sad to hear the story but it gives some insight about why this song is so great.
The VU and Nico is my favorite album of all time.
Love this song man lou is the man
yes the beat is the heartbeat you nailed it
My rushes never lasted as long as they do in this song.
It is art
A true masterpiece
Yeah, that’s the state of mind when you’re addicted to heroine. You don’t care and hope to die. And kids, you never ever get over it. It was 27 years last time I used that drug, and I’ve never recovered Run away!

Maureen Tucker naive drumming she was a beast. Check out her kit

I was literally gonna hit you up to react to this lol
Of course there was a drumbeat. Maureen Tucker was on drums.
I think the end represents the turkey sets in
I like the og version
"WAR - Why Can't We Be Friends? (Official Video) [Remastered 4k]" this band has been overlooked and underrated. This is such a shame, because they are just beautiful. and really, really good.
Nice spot. Moe didn't have a drum kit.
as a former junkie, this song goes hard
Kinda alternative
