If only the boys of the Mersey, Thames & Tyne were united today, maybe the uk would be a great place to live but our politicians wanna divide us so much 😢

White "N" refers to the Irish people. Common slur largely directed at Irish Catholics by British soldiers .

Hello WTH! Elvis is a genius wordsmith. He fits in more words in 2 minutes than even Dylan. His masterpiece is really second album "This Year's Model " that debuts the Attractions. First 3 songs on first side must be heard together. Opus is "Lipstick Vogue "!

You’re right about Elvis’ lyrical content, he make 2 minutes go a long way! You mentioned Dylan who’s also a dab hand in that direction. But the absolute KING of fitting in the most amazing lyrical content into the shortest times, is the master Chuck Berry! Not a second wasted and not a word either!

Oh boy. This song is about The British Empire, South Africa, the Colonial Office, and finding work for the masses of unemployed English. CheckPoint Charlie: The Boer War. "The boys from the Mersey, the Thames and the Tyne": Kitchener's battalions & England's greatest moment. Reference to Winston Churchill: WC headed up the Colonial Office from 1921 to 1925. Referenes to boredom: A 'Colonies Plan' was started by the English because being an island nation, with fewer natural resources than the larger countries of Europe, and high unemployment, a different plan was needed. So why not go out and populate the uninhabited areas of the world, make them profitable, and request a 10% annuity on net profits from them every year?

My sister in law thought anyone calling themselves Elvis was committing sacrilege against Elvis Pressley, and if you liked Elvis Costello's' music you were weird. That makes me very very weird indeed!

Hi Smitty! If you decide to react to more Elvis Costello, I recommend his cover of Nick Lowe's song (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding. Lowe's song and Elvis' interpretation of it are a perfect musical fusion. Plus, it's simply a kickass song.

I respect ALL IRISH rabbit holes. Elvis Costello is British though. Maybe this guy can teach me how this translates into him going to Ireland.

Lol wellll it’s fairly simple. At least to me. It was a suggestion to check out because it was about Ireland. Since I’m trying to learn about Ireland, it made sense. Also, Elvis Costello was born Declan Patrick MacManus and is Irish on his father’s side. Also if not being from Ireland is a prerequisite for making Irish music, I guess I should stop listening to Dropkick Murphys. Which I won’t evaaaaaa lol Hopefully that explained it

@@WhatTheHellEverything I wasn't trying to be disrespectful, but as soon as I was hit with the whole "I'm trying to learn about all things Irish" I was thrown off because I clicked on the video for the Elvis Costello song. No offense, but it's like learning about the Vietnamese from the French. That being said, I've been told I overthink things and I definitely smoke crazy amounts of THC, so your indignation is almost certainly justified.

It’s a real shame that Elvis caved in to the woke brigade and decided to leave “Oliver’s Army” out of his live sets, as it’s one of his greatest tunes and lyrics! And all because the Lady Loves Milk Tray! Well, I wish that WAS the reason, but it’s even dumber than that…it’s just because some weak minded so-called “adults” are “offended” by a certain word that’s in the song that begins with an “n” and ends in an “r”, *despite* the context being nothing whatsoever to do with that particular group of hypersensitive people. That’s one of the big problems with that mindset…nuance goes right out the window! And when it comes right down to it, they’re all just *Mary Whitehouse* reincarnated. Only this time on the Left side of the graveyard….
