I've loved Black Sabbath since I first heard them in 1970. Their first album, "Black Sabbath " was amazing and the sound was different than anything else we were listening to back then. They created the heavy metal sound with their moody, heavy sound. Listen to the Black Sabbath song. It's like a scary movie in a song.

The importance & impact of Black Sabbath to rock and heavy metal music cannot be understated... They were the most unlikely band to pick up instruments and make music that changed the world, much like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Michael Jackson, Madonna, etc. Black Sabbath were just 4 greasy guys from Birmingham, England who had no prospects of doing anything but working odd jobs and manual labor for bare minimum wages... or ending up in jail from gangs and violence... In fact, Ozzy Osbourne (vocals) spent jail time in his teens for burglary in the 60's ... He struggled w/ mental issues and couldn't even graduate school... He decided to become a singer and his dad went into debt to buy a P.A. and mic so that Ozzy could make it happen. Tony Iommi (guitar) came from a tough background and learned to play guitar... One day at his factory job, disaster struck when a machine cut off the fingertips of his right hand (Iommi is left-handed) ... He was inspired by a jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt who played despite having only 2 working fingers... Iommi made plastic fingertips and switch to lighter banjo strings on his guitar and inadvertently created his own sound. Tony Iommi (guitar) and Bill Ward (drums) saw an ad by Ozzy at a local music shop and decided to check him out... By 1968, Ozzy was in the band Earth w/ Iommi, Ward and Geezer Butler (bass) playing cover songs in bars and events... They heard a new band called Led Zeppelin in 1969 and were inspired again... Ozzy suggested that the band make 'scary music' - they just wanted to do something different. That was how the song 'Black Sabbath' (named after a 1940's horror movie) was written in 1969, the lyrics about a nightmare experienced by bassist Geezer Butler. That song gave the band a new name - Black Sabbath. Other Black Sabbath classics - "N.I.B." ... "Children of the grave" ... 'After forever' ... 'Snowblind' ... 'Hand of doom'... 'Hole in the sky' 🤘🤘 When Black Sabbath dropped their first album in 1970, it shocked everybody in Europe and America... They sounded dark, ominous and foreboding... like no other band out there. Immediately, the press hated the band but the fans loved Black Sabbath and bought their records by the millions across the world as their 2nd album 'Paranoid' in 1970 went to #1 on the UK charts. By 1971, Black Sabbath had a top ten record in the US - their 3rd album 'Master of Reality'... Black Sabbath were always for those who were hopeless and downtrodden; they connected w/ those people who felt like they did not belong anywhere and gave them a place where they fit in and thrived... Their music from 1970 to 1978 created the template for what became the entire genre of hard rock & heavy metal music. The members of Black Sabbath had no idea the impact they had... They were too busy playing gigs, recording in the studio... abusing drugs and alcohol... trying to keep tabs on their money ... and being crazy rock stars... The original band ended in 1979 after Ozzy Osbourne was fired from Black Sabbath. Ronnie James Dio (vocals) replaced Ozzy in 1980 and rejuvenated Black Sabbath's career in the early 80's for a bit... Ozzy Osbourne launched his own solo career in 1980 and became a superstar on his own. By the 80's, a plethora of rock/ metal bands from all over the world began taking inspiration from Black Sabbath's sound and making their own music... One of those bands from California was Metallica. In 1986, Ozzy Osbourne was on tour and hired a band called Metallica to open his shows... One day, Ozzy was backstage and he heard Black Sabbath's music coming from Metallica's dressing room. He was furious and thought they were making fun of him and burst into their room to tell them off... The members of Metallica explained that they were too intimidated to approach Ozzy because they had been listening to Black Sabbath records since they were teens... They hoped that if they played one of their favorite Sabbath songs, Ozzy would come join them and sing with them. That was the first time Ozzy realized what an impact his music w/ Black Sabbath had on younger generations... and he still sees bands today coming out w/ their music after being inspired by Black Sabbath.

He was very spiritual early on in life studying Christian mysticism and other disciplines. This song, like many of his lyrical musings, was about spiritual warfare of the mind as much as on the field. Many fans, that half read his words, think the themes are satanic when, in fact, they are the opposite. Warning to beware of your own demonic side as well as that part of life...

It doesn't speak to all things associated with war as being evil. It concerns itself with the people in charge/deciding on war as the option, putting themselves above the rest instead of enduring the horrors of war. The latter would more than likely wipe out the need for the "easy" way out of conflict that war provides. Dig a little deeper folks

I am a combat veteran of the Iraq war. No one wants war. First, anyone who joins the military has to keep in mind that the purpose for the armed forces primarily is to fight and win wars. So, they need to expect what they are getting into. Second, negotiations are always on the table but most of America's enemies are war mongers and all they understand is physical warfare so we have no choice but to engage at those times. Like right now. The only reason we have not engaged with Russia is it will start a war and Putin has already warned that if American troops are put into the mix on the ground, he will use nuclear warfare. Something no one wants. However, giving the Ukrainians money to fight seems like the same thing. Unless that money is being funneled - which I am more likely to believe. That's just another whole conversation in itself. When it comes to Israel, we will ALWAYS defend them. They are our allies and the countries that surround Israel are all considered harbors of terrorists. The anti-Israel protesting in this country going on will be a waste of time so someone needs to stop that flat it its tracks. If they don't, it will get much worse and will affect EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE. Now, when it comes to the "generals" gathering, they are far removed from physical fighting and are usually out of touch with the fighting force. It didn't used always be that way.

Really great song, however, I wish people would stop recommending this video for people to react to. It has nothing to do with the song; it is not an official music video, it was fan made. In my opinion it takes away from the band and the lyrics and confuses a lot of people because they get too focused on the images and begin commenting on trying to follow the video.
