And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Wacken Open Air festival 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of a 82k audience. Also a recent sad news - these days Marco Hietala, the bass player and male singer of the band, announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. As I saw, you enjoyed the powerful performance of the band, together with the stellar vocals of our Dutch metal queen, Floor Jansen. Hope you'll continue on this path. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. Knowing how you usually react, and knowing this song, when I saw the thumbnail I thought "Cynthia is here for a big ride, I can't miss it" :) Glad you liked this song. Also, as you can already see in the comments, this band have quite of an online "cult", but don't worry too much even if the "army" can sound a bit like creepy stalkers sometimes they don't bite ^^

Not just energy, as you rightly noticed, but endurance. This is the thirteenth of fifteen songs in Nightwish's ninety minute set, headlining to an audience of eighty two thousand (plus festival workers - probably at least a couple of thousand, as setting up a small town in open fields or a few days needs a huge work crew - I know, I met my wife working a festival! - and returning it to pasture afterwards). Floor Jansen is majestic in her vocals, with a huge range in both pitch and texture, as you got a glimpse of here. But not a full picture, as nothing had been written by Tuomas (the metal Mozart you see on keyboards here, who composes nearly all of Nightwish's repertoire) for her voice yet - she'd joined at 48 hours notice mid-tour, learning the setlist on her way across the atlantic from The Netherlands to Salt Lake City then in the tourbus to her first performance in Seattle. Then, as this song wasn't in it, and she'd heard it and liked it, she arranged it for her own voice, added the phenominal ending, and persuaded the band to try her version, starting 10 days after her first performance with them. It hasn't been out of the setlist since. With later albums, Tuomas challenges her vocal abilities further, and it is something they both enjoy - he challenging her, and her pushing herself to exceed expectations. And we all benefit!

Hi Ambrose Cynthia. You are right about how versatile Floor Jansen is in her singing; she had a classical training and has sung in pop/metal bands before. And yes, Nightwish has the energy of love. And offhand I counted 6 OMG's and 5 WOW's, so you passed!
