This video is completely factual, and I'd enjoy watching you react to similar content. I'd say just try to keep on open mind and remember everyone's biases. I recommend Thomas Sowell. Although this particular video is focused on dispelling a lot of the mythology and assumptions for younger generations and how they understand Democrats, there is still A LOT to criticize on the Republican side. Especially in more recent years. Just not in the scope of this video.

Here's a statistic that didn't get covered in this video, but is along the same lines. Up through the early 1960s, most American black children were born into two-parent households and commitments to family was very strong. In the decades since, "welfare" programs have given incentive to single mothers to remain single, and even have more children, there has been a collapse of the family structure among many in the community. About 70% of black children in America are born to single mothers and their fathers are largely uninvolved in their lives. This is true of many in a lower economic position, so it's not strictly a racial thing. But it does tend to impact minorities more dramatically. One Republican President coined the phrase, "the soft bigotry of low expectations" to refer to efforts that lower the bar for some in society so that they have no incentive to rise to their potential. This is why having school choice vouchers available, to give low income families greater access to a decent education and the potential that brings, is a critical benefit advocated by Republicans, but strongly resisted by Democrats.

The information is also irrelevent. What matters is that the Democrats and GOP effectively switched positions when it came to advocating for Black people starting in 1948,when Harry Truman, who was a Klan member in the 20's,desegregated the US military, and continuing in 1964,and 1965,when Democrat Lyndon Johnson got the Civil Rights act passed with northern Republican votes. This led to racist southern "Dixiecrats" defecting to the GOP to elect Nixon in 1968,and slowly taking over the GOP to where it's a southern and rural western dominated party that can win Presidential elections by swinging an industrial "Rust belt" state The old GOP that supported civil rights and ended slavery was a northern based party. Now the GOP is a party that hates Lincoln and supports Confederate flags and statues. The modern Democratic Party is a northern, urban, and coastal based party.Only a handful of Democrats hold statewide office in the south and only a handful of GOPers hold statewide office in the north.

@@TheLAGopher Blah, blah, blah, more lefttard nonsense. Truman did desegregate the military. Do ewe know why? The Dixiecrats were a one term Party-1948. The only Dixiecrat that switched to the Republican Party was Strom Thurmond, and he didn't switch until 1964, 18 years after the Dixiecrats. In 1968, the deep south did not vote for Nixon, they voted for Wallace, an original 1948 Dixiecrat, even a lefttard could look that up. LBJ never passed the Civil Rights Act. He was the President. All he could do was sign the Bill, or veto the Bill. JFK commissioned Republican Congressman Wm. McColluch of Ohio to author what became the 1964 CRA. BTW, all 9 CRA's, from the first one in 1865 through the last one in 1991, were all authored by Republicans. It was LBJ, as ranking member of the Senate, that destroyed both the 1957 and 1960 CRA's. He had his lawyer friends in the Senate make sure both Bills were legally unenforceable before letting the Senate vote on them. Yes, even a lefttard could look that up also. The Parties never switched, the voters did. Blacks started voting Demonrat in mass, in 1965 after LBJ's Government Plantation(Welfare) was passed. Deep south whites didn't start voting Republican for local elections until the 2010-2012 election cycles. Again, the thing about lefttards and looking something up. Most of ewer comment was a lie and lies are irrelevant. BTW, even the leftist rag, Time Magazine, praised both McColluch in Congress, and Republican Senator Everett Dirksen of Illinois, for getting the votes to pass the 1964 CRA, not LBJ as he was against it. Any biography on LBJ, and there are several, will point out that LBJ wanted nothing to do with the 1964 CRA, as he was afraid the Demonrats would loose the deep south in the 1964 Presidential election if he signed it. He was correct. The deep south didn't vote Demonrat again until Carter in 1976.

It's the modern GOP that has embraced the same white nationalism that was in the Confederacy,Jim Crow south, and Nazi Germany. Donald Trump and his MAGA minions drop similar talking points to the German regime all the time. It so funny that these "Gotcha" hit pieces on the Democrats by MAGA conservatives overlook the fact that the old Democratic Party was a conservative party while the old GOP was called "Radical" for opposing slavery, and later was the first party to embrace the term "Progressive" when Teddy Roosevelt went after big business and the banks and supported "Big Government" legislation calling for Unions, work place safety, and the 40 hour work week. It should be a fairly simple concept to grasp that the Democrats and GOP switched positions starting in 30s under FDR with the social safety net. Continuing in the late 40s When Truman desegregated the armed forces, and concluding under Lyndon Johnson's "Great Society" with an expanded social safety net and the passing of landmark Civil Rights and Voting Rights laws. The GOP went right in 1968 when angry racist white southern Democrats feeling betrayed by LBJ,defected to Nixon and the GOP in opposition to Civil Rights, and leading to the social movement of white southern Christians taking over the GOP under Reagan with the Moral Majority in the 80s and concluding with Trump and the MAGA movement.

While you should always take anything that PragerU releases with a massive rock of salt (it's not actually a university although Dr. Swain is one of the few presenters of PragerU sponsored content that I've seen that is actually a scholar), the facts presented in the video aren't wrong... but there's a lot of nuance and context left out of it (purposefully). You're right that it's important for people to know history, and in fact much of the information presented here actually _is_ taught in U.S. history classes here. And that's where you learn that missing nuance and context. The modern Democrat party is not much at all like the original one (the Democratic-Republicans, founded in the early 1800's). That original party was actually much more like the modern Republican party in its views, believing (among other things) in small government (but a strong executive branch), low taxes, states' rights, and supporting slavery. It also tended to be more concentrated in the more southern states of the U.S. whereas the Republican party, which sprung up in the mid 1800's as an anti-slavery party, was stronger in the northeast and very limited in the south. While the Democrat party was more in support of slavery -- and as stated above the Republican party was more against slavery -- the political party aspect of it was likely less of a factor than the geography, with the North/South fracture in the party being a major contributing factor to Abraham Lincoln becoming President. It wasn't until the 1900's when the Democrat party started to shift more to the left and taking on a more progressive bent, first on economic issues and then on social and civil rights issues during the mid 20th century. With this and the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, many of the Southern Democrats switched to the Republican party, and things have more or less remained the same since then. So, again, it's important for people to know history, but I'd be a tad skeptical of people who are trying to bring up this sort of history in a way to intimate that it has any bearing on the modern viewpoints of the Republican and Democratic parties. Regarding your comments on Joe Biden... well, I'd say you don't need anything in what that PragerU video presented, just do some research on Biden's political history. He was barely "left" in the 80's and 90's when I was still a student, and the "center" has moved quite a bit to the "right" in the decades since then.
