Unlucky Morpheus is the best symphonic metal band out there right now! Their "XIII Live at Toyosu PIT" dvd shows that this band is ready to headline a any european festival!

This unfortunately doesn't showcase the violinist well. She is an absolute BEAST, as are all the musicians. Check out their cover of Ynvie Malmesteen's "Far Beyond The Sun" she'll blow you away.

Indeed Jill is a Monster. And honnestly I'm like... If a Lady of this talent ends up playing metal on her violin, either : - The japan classic scene is at such a high level she was not even reaching it and she plays this by default (which I don't believe honnestly) - She satrted playing violin at a very young age, but while growing up was way more into actual music than classical, and here we are, all able to witness such greatness on a music style we love 😍

Yes, "Unlucky Morpheus" is wonderful band from Japan, too! The singer - Fuki - is very beautiful woman and powerful singer. You can check their live videos. Any of them, but I like the most "Dignity of Spirit", "Angriefer" and "Tower of Blood". As you already know, Japanese band sound even better on live videos! 🙂

I just got into this band within the last couple of weeks that I’ve realized that what they do is make classical compositions and present them in heavy metal form. Seriously start listening to them and you’ll understand a lot of it directly translate to classical music.

If you like the violin here...listen to some of their live stuff, like Angreifer, The Tower of Blood, or Dignity of Spirit. Jill really gets to cut loose on the violin there, actually taking over for one of the guitar on some of the solos.

Unfortunately no one Can react/watch to 'The Tower of the Blood' any more because it has been either deleted or set to private for some time.

Japan has has a very underrated metal scene that not much of the world knows about. Another band that have been on the scene and killing it is Galneryus. The song of choice is Angel of Salvation, but they have many other songs to check. This band is like a power metal version of dream theater, so to speak. Key in on the lead guitarist and singer, who stand out in terms of skill, ability and natural talent.

I am very excited to have responded to Unlucky Morpheus! They live great. Please watch their live performance! I will never regret it!

the drummer, fumiya, is formerly a drummer in another famous japanese metal band called galneryus, he left galneryus in 2020 to focus more on the other bands he currently plays in. also jill, the violinist, does violin covers of songs from very guitar heavy bands like yngwie malmsteen where she takes the lead guitar melody and plays it on her violin while the others from unlucky morpheus does rhythm guitar, drums and bass. at the time of the release of this song, jill wasnt a full time member, she was just a session musician. and fuki, the singer... she sing in this band, light bringer, fuki commune AND in dollsboxx (stylized as doll$boxx) as well as doing guest vocals in many other japanese bands and musicians projects, including with syu, the guitarist of galneryus

UM is a 💎 in Japan's metal scene. They are a power group composed of exmembers to other great Japanese metal bands. Her vocals have set the standard in the jmetal scene imo. Thank you for the reaction. You just found one of metal's hidden treasures that the world is sleeping on.

Also with galneryus. Sad to see people dosen't know that much of galneryus. Unlucky morpheus and lovebites are underrated around the world too. Japan has a lot of great metal bands.

YESSSSSS unlucky morpheus is the best band right now! You need to check out angreifer live version or dignity of spirit live. Live versions of this band are far better than studio versions

You should check out their song Cadaver / Revedac (technically two songs) where Revedac uses the musical score from Cadaver but is played backwards with different lyrics. Two songs from one piece of music.

Great! Hope you will check out more. Might be of interrest that Shiren, one of the guitarists, was one of the first Kamiband (babymetal) members back in 2012 and that Fuki, the voclaist, is very productive outside UM, I especially like Dollsboxx that is basicaly Gacharic Spin with Fuki on vocals.

This is the Japanese Visual Kei band! Japan has a wonderful Visual-kei genre that cannot be explained by metal or rock. It began with Xjapan.

The drummer, Fumiya, used to play for Galneryus. The guitarist doing the growls, Shiren, once played in Babymetal's Kami Band, but it was only for one show early in their existence. Unfortunately, he suffers from tenosynovitis, an inflammatory condition that often restricts his ability to play guitar. That's why when you do see him play, his guitar is a headless Strandberg that's really light. In fact, the guitar is often on a stand to make it easier for him. When he absolutely can't play, Jill, the violinist, will step in and take over his solos. My favorite song from them is "Unending Sorceress," a song that showcases Jill rather well.

The vocalists Fuki wrote in a blog that Black Pentagram lyrics are actually based on The Witch Medea (魔女メディア) a short story by Suzue Miuchu.

To understand today in Japan's Rock/Metal music you have to understand the past. 80's/90's bands like X Japan (legendary), Show Ya (1st major all female band), Luna Sea (best after X Japan) and Princess Princess (pop rock). 2 members of Princess Princess are on staff at the Tokyo School of Music. Akane and MISA of Band Maid are alumni!!

The band's concerts are really great. I have been to two concerts and they have amazing playing skills and musicianship. This band, like BAND-MAID, is a band whose live performances are often better than their studio recordings. Fuki's singing, in particular, is based on an ancient Japanese vocal technique called 'shigin(詩吟)'. And she sings with an appealing and overwhelming volume that is even better than studio recordings. You definitely need to listen to angreifee. And you must listen the live version of Black Pentagram. The guitarist and harsh vocalist had a health issue, and couldn't play the guitar. So the violin player stepped in!

Stage left guitarist is Shiren one the first if not the first guitarists in Baby Metal and he is the writer and composer of songs for UM!

This is my first time listening to Unlucky Morpheus. Sounds like the Japanese version of EPICA!

Congrats on finding Unlucky Morpheus-one of the best, most creative bands in the world today. My top suggestion for a live clip: “Angreifer” kzread.info/dash/bejne/mXt_ucmGZKy1l8Y.html Amid all the (justified) excitement over the Japanese all-female metal bands, we forget there are plenty of guys who throw down. Shiren, founder and one of the guitarists, also does the growls. Fumiya (Drums) is, as you saw, insane and inexhaustible-one of the best rock drummers in the world. Jinya (G) and Ogawa (B) are solid as well. Fumiya and Ogawa also have interesting, “beast” personae which contrast with the “beauty” of Fuki and Jill. That contrast is a deliberate trope, similar to the “Beauty and the Beast” imagery of many European symphonic metal bands. Fuki (lead singer) is a legend in Japan, and one of the busiest artists anywhere. She is lead singer for UM, Doll$boxx, Lightbringer and her own ongoing project, Fuki Commune. Her style is very much out of the Japanese classical tradition, with the oversold vibrato and intense high notes. She collaborates with a lot of the top musical talents in Japan. Jill (violin) also has a busy dance card, including collaborations with Fuki outside UM. Jill is actually my favorite member of Unlucky Morpheus. I consider her the best rock/jazz/metal violinist in the world today, and probably the best since Jean-Luc Ponty. After Shiren (founder, original lead guitarist) started suffering from an injury that limits his playing, they rewrote a lot of his solos for Jill. You guys have really missed an awful lot of the "Visual Kei" genre from Japan. Try Malice Mizer, Versailles etc. While I am not a huge fan of unlucky Morpheus (mostly down to the vocal style) I 100% agree that Japan has taken over the world in Metal.....they are so inventive and style concious.....and I'm CERTAIN they are teaching guitar in reverse....teach all the hardest stuff first!!! LOL

That's kinda funny, I'm exactly the other way on this. Never really could get into Versailles, which is sad because I do like the music, but the vocals just do not click with me. Love Ankimo though, but I also do love Light Bringer, so Fuki's fine by me.

Yeah Versailles is amazing! I really love Unlucky Morpheus more though. The music genre they occupy are very similar. I recommend Versailles- Philia (Live), the solos in this song are just fantastic.

This song doesn't make sense to have a violinist. 　Even though her violin is amazing. In my personal opinion, "Unlucky Morpheus" does not need vocals.
