FUN FACT: "Rapper's Delight" is ranked #251 on Rolling Stones list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. It is also included on NPR's list of the 100 most important American musical works of the 20th century. The song is also preserved in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress for being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant".

My 35-year-old niece knows every word to the song because my 62-year-old brother played it for her from the minute she was born, because it's one of his favorite songs. I still remember that whole last verse by heart because the chicken tastes like wood lol. This is the kind of rap music I enjoy. It's got the great beat and it's something you can dance to. It was played in the disco's back when I was still young and went out clubbing every weekend. I'm 66 years old this month & this song is still on my dance playlist. When the family gets together, the girls of all ages kick everybody out of the kitchen so we can have a kitchen dance party with a bottle of wine and our favorite music.b. Thiss is always on the playlist. Sugar Hill Gang are historical for a good reason.

Ron Sandgren I’m not familiar with that song but the term Hip Hop as we all know today came from Keith Cowboy of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. Maybe he knew the record you mentioned but his definition started as a joke to one of his friends that caught on so maybe that record said it but since Rappers Delight was the first official ‘rap’ record released, they said it first in this context. Because they overstepped all the originators of the genre that already had hip hop established on the street level first and put out a record before anyone else could.

I remember being a boy when this came out. Every older cousin's house I would visit I would see that iconic album with the colorful "candy swirl" on it laying somewhere. I saw a documentary where they said that when this 1st came out, people were running to the record stores & asking "Do you have that Hip Hop song?" That's because they didn't know the name of it. Only the rift "I said a hip, hop, hippy to the hippy"....... Hence, the term "Hip Hop" was born.
