My little cousin (more like sister) spent the last 5 or so yrs of her life in & out of jail/prison. I kept track of her via inmate searches. Well, she spent time in Folsom. She looved Johnny Cash. I always wanted to talk to her about that. But, she died of an overdose about a week after getting out of LA jail in 2021. I miss her like hell.

The Highwaymen were a super group of Cash, Kris Kristofferson (laughing), Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings.

Highwaymen concerts were the Best. Not only Highwaymen songs, but each Legendary artist perform their biggest hits. A must see from this concert: Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way (Waylon Jennings)

The radio stations wouldn't play songs that weren't under 3 minutes in the old days

Cash did a lot of prison shows. He even changed on prisoner's life by getting him interested in the music. His name was Merle Haggard, with a great list of hits.

The original Cash version was sung in Folsom Prison and having the prisoners reaction to the lines of the song really added an emotive tug. Appreciate the Highway Men version though

The highwaymen, during the show had solos like this by each respective artist. So this is just johnny singing folsom prison blues and not the full group benefit. You need to listen to the highway men, big river, silver station, American remains, their version of against the wind. Live forever. If you don't plan on ever doing a reaction to them as assemble, I recommend watching the highwaymen concert !

He was primarily of English and Scottish descent. His paternal grandmother claimed Cherokee ancestry. But a DNA test of Cash's daughter Rosanne in 2021 on Finding Your Roots, hosted by historian Henry Louis Gates Jr, found she has no known Native American markers.
