George Harrison didn't get to have too many of his songs on albums, but he wrote 3 of the very best they ever recorded. This one, Something and While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Love you George.

Yes, George is the lead vocalist, the lead guitarist, the sole writer and even contributed keyboard aspects on the Harmonium and Moog Synthesizers --- but lets not forget the accompanying background harmonies by the rest of the group, as well as Ringo's drum playing and even Producer George Martin's string and woodwind arrangement adding to the overall vibe. It was always the case that there were multiple contributions to each song by other members, even when one or the other was the sole writer and main vocalist --- George himself contributed great harmonies and instrumentation to songs written and primarily sung by Lennon and McCartney --- this is what they were about --- being a group. Even during their late troubled years, they were individual personalities that worked, more or less, within the group framework --- they fed off the vibes and inspiration of their fellow bandmembers --- this is what made them great. They were equals where it counted --- the creation of their art. I see this and everything the ever produced as a _Beatles_ song first and foremost --- I even somehow (with my heart, not my mind) consider all of their solo stuff to still be _Beatle_ songs. Not sure if it's just me or if there are other fans that feel that way --- they were one entity to me and loved them all equally.

This is basically George Harrison backed by Paul and Ringo (John was recovering from a car crash). Although George often had to take a back seat to the song writing talents of Paul and John, this is the most streamed Beatles' song ever on Spotify. This version is a new (2019) stereo remix by Giles Martin but it sounds to me pretty similar to the original.

The instrument behind the Guitar is one of the first Moog synthesizers and was bought by George Harrison. This album is possibly the first Platnum album to have a Moog on it. Fun fact. The Moog had a bug that the note would drift down at the end and nobody could fix it, not even the Moog engineers. So they just designed it into the song to brilliant effect.

I absolutely love Ringo's drum part on this song. It's pretty subtle but it's really effective. I don't really have a favorite Beatles song because there are just so many and I like them all each in their own way. Things We Said Today is a slightly earlier Beatles song that's mostly acoustically driven and it's great because it is a really serious love song set to a haunting minor key. And it is so catchy.

I'd put both of those songs to be amongst the best Beatles tunes, like as in top two and they have a lot of great music with the exception of "Revolution #9" which was more of a sound experiment or something.

Capo is at the 7th fret, playing in D major it sounds in concert A major. The way George plays with the D major chord shape reminds me of Roger McGuinn's Bach inspired riff on The Byrds rendition of Dylan's "Mr Tambourine Man". Also based on the D major chord shape, btw.

One of the amazing things of many about the Beatles is that they could write/compose beautiful love ballads like "Yesterday" or "The Long And Winding Road" "A reflection song like "Strawberry Fields For Ever" They can write a classic rock and roll like "One After 909" or "I Saw Her Standing There" a pure pop song like "Penny Lane" to of what many say was the song that gave birth to heavy metal like "Helter Skelter", the contrast between all of them was/is Amazing and many more, is going to take you a while to explore them all but I don't think you'll be disappointed in discover to discover them all, but one thing you'll find in all them is the uniqueness and greatness every song was better than the last and on and on, they were ahead of their time, they wrote all their 210 songs in only 7 years together AS The Beatles including 32 world wide #-1-s there was nothing they can not do aware or unawre everything they touched turn to platinum Lennon/McCartney are considered the best most successful songwriters in the 20th century and so far in 21st, and Harrison holds a place of his own up there too, good vids gut, keep it up

This joyful, beautiful George Harrison song was so loved by my late wife that I had a musician come in to perform it for her after she had gone into a coma--it would have been the last song she heard (people in comas may not speak or see, but they can hear). Release date 1969, 7 years after first stepping into a recording studio. The group broke up by spring 1970, but George (who wrote and sang this) was already releasing solo albums and recording with other groups. Remastering is necessary to adjust the sound quality to improve on substandard previous recording and duplication technologies; no doubt these songs were recorded and pressed on the very best equipment of their day, but electronics in particular improve the fastest. This song, remastered in 2019, was originally recorded 50 years prior. This is music written and recorded 55 years ago. No one familiar with the Beatles' work can name just one song as their 'favorite'. They can give you a list, but it's impossible to restrict the choice to just one. Too many genres, too many subjects.

Ringo’s drumming is always overlooked. Drummers dunk on him ‘cos he didn’t play a 24-piece, monster kit upon which he could play the bloody melody; I tend to be annoyed by those type drummers. It’s a drummer’s role to keep time, and Ringo was an human metronome. His sense of timing and his sense of audio space was impeccable. His playing always served the song, rather than himself. I think that’s true of all of the Beatles, in fact. I can’t think of any Beatles song where any member of the band goes off on some wild tangent all his own. Each of them put the good of the overall arrangement ahead of his own ego.

Part of the story behind this song is the sun doesn't shine much in the UK. Even in the summer. It rarely gets over 80 degrees there, which is why you won't air conditioning in ANY home. They also don't have window screens in Europe. Back to my point, after a long Winter, Spring has finally arrived and the sun is coming out.

Michael. great reaction. you picked up on so many things most people take multiple listens to get. It may not be their best but think it is their most played/requested. I like so many. Some hidden gems as in not number ones for them. You Are Going to Lose That Girl. Point here. you said was great music video. There were no music videos much before the Beatles. Check out their movie Help. Every song is basically a music video, before music videos were a thing. The Monkees show was based on the inane approach seen in Help. Trend setters in so many ways. with some help from George Martin, but their combined results were amazing and the Beatles incoroporated so much of that searching, exploring on their own. Dave here. thanks again.

The instrument behind the opening acoustic is on of the very first Moog Synthesizers. Robert Moog had bought it to Abbey Road recording studios hoping that they might buy it... and when George sw it he had to have a play... it is all over the Abbey Road album... Keep on rocking man.

My favorite Beatles song is Strawberry Fields Forever which I believe is the greatest song ever written. There are so many brilliant Beatles songs it's hard to pick a favorite. My favorite George song is Something which has the best bass line ever played. My favorite Paul song is, well there are so many masterpieces, but For No One is one to react to and the list just continues.
