Additional info: this track was commissioned for the first worldwide live satellite broadcast of a TV show (Our World, June 1967). A good idea by the Beatles, to spread a positive message, that was seen and heard by around 400,000,000 people at the time. The song opens with the French national anthem, which is quite bloodthirsty, which the Beatles counter with the "Love, Love, Love" line.

@@ricardo_miguel13 It doesn't seem to be possible, to determine this exactly anymore. The idea for the national anthem (by the way: singing national anthems always sucks) probably came from producer George Martin. One can assume, that he knew the lyrics of the anthem, but the Beatles probably didn't. Maybe he told the content the group. A reaction with the “Love, Love, Love” line isn't unrealistic. But it wouldn't be untypical of Beatles humor, to start an international contribution by Brits with a foreign national anthem... One have to ask McCartney or Starr... But it could also be, that they don't remember themselves, it's also a Lennon song.

A lot of British music used trumpet, check out some colliery (miner's) bands. Every coal mine back in the day had a trumpet band.

Stu Stucliff was a Beatle and quit and also died of a brain hemorrhage the same year. They also had a drummer Pete Best who was replaced by Ringo shortly before they became famous.

The beatles were to do one of the first across the world TV broadcast. They had not decided what to sing. So the night before the broadcast John Lennon wrote "All you need is love". They played it live. The rest is history.

Stuart Sutcliffe was John’s friend from art college he performed with the band in Hamburg before they were signed. Heplayed bass but wasn’t very good ( would often turn away from the audience to hide it) he fell in love with a German Photographer named Astrid. ( she took a lot of their early photos) and left the band when Paul and George got deported, and remained with Astrid and worked on his art. He died a few months later from a brain haemorrhage.

Gabe: Relax. If you want trumpet, for your delectation and delight, here's the Baba Brooks Band "Shank I Sheck" (1965) kzread.info/dash/bejne/qZ2ImqWJm9ffqrw.html Don't worry it's got a guitar solo of sorts. You can then immerse yourself in the Shank I Sheck riddim - just go with it. As for this track, it's a "should have been alive" experience from "Our World" TV show in 1967. The audience, the production, the sentiment is very much of that moment.

You've really missed a trick here, fellas! This track was the finale of the first global TV satelite link up. It is filmed and recorded, live, in one take, to an audience of over 400 million people! The colour footage of them making this actual track is out there, go and look it up! :)

The original bassist (John Lennon's best friend) was Stuart Sutcliffe. Before they recorded their first album or had any real fame they toured extensively in Hamburg Germany. There they met an artist and photographer named Astrid Kirchherr. Sutcliffe fell in love with Kirchherr and in 1960 they got engaged and he decided to quit the band and stay in Hamburg. In Feb 1962 he collapsed in her arms and died of a brain aneurysm, before The Beatles ever signed a record deal or had any real fame

If Gabe likes horns, try "Got To Get You Into My Life" from Revolver in 1966. For repetition: "Why Don't We Do It In The Road?" from The White Album in 1968. "Hello, Goodbye" a single from 1967. "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" from Abbey Road in 1969. You should also check out "I Am The Walrus", the "b-side" to "Hello, Goodbye", "A Day In The Life" from Sgt. Peppers in 1967, and "Tomorrow Never Knows" from Revolver.

GABE there is a lot of trumpet in American music, has been for a LONG LONG TIME!! In the Beatles PENNY LANE there is a piccolo trumpet. Also in "GOT TO GET YOU INTO MY LIFE." (Beatles) It is repeated for the TV broadcast, as the people there were walking around with sandwich boards on with "ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE" written in several languages. Also during the long outro, the orchestra is playing bits of other famous instrumental songs from the 19th and 20th century, a Glenn Miller song (Big Band Era) and "GREENSLEEVES" ( melody for Greensleeves was also used for the Christmas Carole "What Child is This") and you hear Paul say "YESTERDAY" and of course they sing "She Loves You, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. PLEASE TRY to watch the VIDEO BROADCAST FOR IT at the LINK I posted BELOW this comment. You will then understand why it went on longer. It's a great and colorful video.

There was always just the 4 Beatles. The entire concept of the 'Fifth Beatle' was a joke functionally. No one was ever placed in that role by the Beatles themselves; it was an honorary position conferred more by the press and writers than anyone else. Over time, it was supposed to be their manager Brian Epstein, their road manager Mal Evans, close friend Stu Sutcliffe, pre-Ringo drummer Pete Best, music producer George Martin, keyboardist Billy Preston, and others. Another joke was John as the 'leader' of the Beatles. Ringo was older, and Paul was more focused. In point of fact, there really wasn't a leader, unless you considered Brian Epstein. Brian was a clerk in a clothing shop, but saw something in the Beatles that made him think they could 'be something'. He talked them into letting him manage them, quit his shop job, cleaned the boys up, and put them in snappy suits. He contracted performances in better, posher clubs (they had been playing rowdy X-rated Hamburg clubs and wearing leather jackets and dirty jeans). Brian cleaned them up and got them a record contract. In a sense, he created their onstage appearance. If anyone earned the title of 'Fifth Beatle', it would be a toss-up between Brian Epstein and George Martin. George was assigned the producing of the Beatles' recordings. It turned into a mentorship and a collaboration as the Beatles challenged and pushed the boundaries of what music could be made in a recording studio. George Martin gave the boys free rein to create and innovate. It led to great music and a knighthood for Sir George Martin.
