It's called a "power ballad", totally the formula of the 80s. A band releases a heavy rocking song followed by a slower love song. The 80s metal music was awesome....still is!

Truth. About the only band that differed from that back then was Guns 'n Roses. They put out "Welcome To The Jungle", and their second single was "Paradise City", THEN they slipped the ballad in with "Sweet Child 'O Mine".

Next Steelheart "Can't Stop Me Loving You" The reason Steelheart never reached big fame was because big Milli had a horrific on stage accident on Halloween 1992. He was climbing a 1000 pound lighting rig that was improperly secured and it fell on him, forcing him face first into the floor. Broke his face up, twisted his spine, as well as many other serious injuries. He was in the hospital for months and needed several facial reconstruction surgeries, he also had to learn to walk again. It took him 4 yrs to recover from it. It's incredible he was able to still sing and preform! The og Steelheart lineup never played together again. At that point Grunge had taken over and killed many hair bands/rock bands careers. But Mili and Steelheart are still out there making music and his voice is still incredible!

@@Ol-wolfie I've been a Queensryche fan since 1983 and there are a handful of their songs that the average listener likes but are my least favorite. Example: Silent Lucidity, Jet city woman, another rainy night, etc. I love Operation Mindcrime but I get to where it bores me because it's everyone's favorite but "The Warning" is a dark and mysterious album that has remained a somewhat hidden treasure from all the bandwagon people. In my opinion, "The Warning" is their masterpiece.

Yes more Steelheart please! "Can't stop me loving you" and "Sheila" has to be up next! And yes Steelheart still to this day are way too underrated. There's a reason for that though since Miljenko had a tragic accident on stage. "MATIJEVIC DECIDED TO CLIMB A LIGHTING TRUSS WHICH WAS FOR SOME REASON IMPROPERLY SECURED SO AS MATIJEVIC CLIMBED THE RIG IT BROKE FREE. MATIJEVIC TRIED TO DODGE THE 1000 POUND PIECE OF EQUIPMENT TO NO AVAIL; IT HIT HIM IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD, DRIVING HIM FACE FIRST INTO THE STAGE. THE OUTCOME OF THE ACCIDENT WAS A BROKEN NOSE, CHEEKBONE, JAW, TWISTED SPINE, AND SEVERE MEMORY LOSS. MATIJEVIC MIRACULOUSLY FOUND THE STRENGTH TO WALK OFF THE STAGE AND WAS IMMEDIATELY TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. IT WAS TO BE THE LAST TIME THE ORIGINAL LINEUP OF STEELHEART WOULD EVER PERFORM TOGETHER. MATIJEVIC HAD A LONG, PAIN STRICKEN, DIFFICULT ROAD TO RECOVERY AS THE ACCIDENT DID FAR MORE DAMAGE THAN ANYONE COULD HAVE KNOWN AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT WHICH LEFT MATIJEVIC TO FIGHT THIS BATTLE ALONE FOR A LONG TIME". Such a tragic ending to such a great band. I always try to encourage reactors I think would enjoy this band to react to them when I can since I love them so much, especially Miljenko's heavenly, angelic voice that remain one of my absolute favorites.

Man, I think I requested this a few times a couple years ago. This song is excellent, and yes, he still hits those notes live to this day. And FYI, they were huge in their time. Especially in Europe.

I don't think Steelheart ever got a chance to get that big in the U.S. They were part of a "newer generation" of hair metal bands....the Bon Jovis and the Motley Crues were already established...but around 1990 there came Steelheart, Slaughter, Trixter, Firehouse....but those bands really only had time to release one or maybe two albums, and then....well...GRUNGE happened. And that style of rock just kind of disappeared from the radio.

@@philpennington826 Yeah, they had a moderate following in the States at best, sadly. But they ruled the rock airwaves in Europe for about a year or two. I think they pulled 5 or 6 singles from this album. It was nice to see them get some play in the US after the movie Rockstar came out though.

@@TheNeonParadox The shame was, that when the Grunge rock thing exploded, everything ELSE was put by the wayside. All the 80s-style rock bands just kind of got dropped from radio and MTV. With the exceptions of a VERY few bands that had become so successful that they COULDN'T just be pushed under the carpet (Bon Jovi, for example). It also affected a lot of heavier bands than the "hair metal" bands. And it was like...."wait....just because there's this NEW thing, why do we have to lose the OLD thing? Why can't we have BOTH?"

@@philpennington826 I'm not arguing that, bro. Lol. I was just making the point that the European market was different. Grunge didn't fully catch on, whereas in the US, it overtook virtually anything else. But we can look on the bright side. I can count on one hand the number of grunge bands people are still talking about today. Whereas if I listed the number of hair metal bands from that era that still have a loyal following, even on an iPad you'd have to scroll through my comment 3-4 times. 🙂

You would also have to throw in Geoff Tate of queensryche in that room. He's arguably one of the best singers of his time. You should react to "take hold of the flame" live in Japan. I think the year was 1984 or 85.

Yes Alex...the 80's had many bands like this one...Glam rock or posers was usually an insult thrown around The Hill ( outside smoking section at my highschool)...metal heads and stoners ...but...not mature enough to recognize amazing vocals, and the value of a love song. From Poison, Ratt, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, Warrant, Motley Crue...and dozens more...some made it big and some made it fucking big. All have different levels of skill vocally and musically, entertainment or sex centric content... It was another link in the long centuries chain of being of age to learn, breed, and taste wild freedom of no longer being sheltered as a child. Wild times the 80' they were.
